I use FF plugins, but I'm addicted to cytomic the glue for the 2bus and usually the drum buss. I found out though that a lot of times on the drum bus if I combine cytomic with the "open sounding buss" setting and Pro C with the "Deep field" setting it seems to work well

I was actually testing Chandler for Console 1 whole day today lol I love it on this vintage mix you had there 😍😍😍 Never thought of some of them to be used on 2bus 🤔 might as well try it. I am however huge fan of Vertigo VSC-2. This is my go to compressor on 2bus. Absolutely brilliant! Someone from the industry recommended it to me a while ago and the first time I heard I was like damb.... 😱😍 I think Im obsessed with it 😂😅😜 but I guess we all have our favourites. Really cool video! Analog Obsession Specomp. It’s free. I shot it out, exactly level matched, against 30 others. Including several on this list. It won with flying colors. Punchier, thicker, more dimension and more open highs. Softube VCA gets an honorable mention, too.

Thank you for sharing this. The LinMB was surprising. And the API, that’s an interesting one. Really want to check that out for more than smacking. I’ve had it for so long. The MJUC I call the glove when I find the right signals for it. It smoothly wraps around whatever I put in it. Think I‘ll try as many as I can tomorrow. Have the SSL buscomp 2. Love the channelstrip on dialogue so maybe that bus company can help on a 2bus. Thanks again, especially for the inspiration to try more.

I use the Klanghelm Vari Mu exactly as you stated, for colour, hardly any, if any needle movement Threshold (usually) between -6 and -12, Just adds a little glue and sees to fatten the low end nicely too. Between -6 and -12 I can use the threshold almost like a fatness control, above -12 and I tend to get pumping that does not fit what I do (but would be great on some 50's style rock n roll, or even a trashy old skool punk band, I make Proggy Groove metal, so it does not really fit my sound). I use the free version so you cant control the saturation, but it colours it even if you leave all controls at 0

It's better, usually, in mastering (which is not your master fader, that's your mix) because more transparent. I'm not a fan of mixing into a multiband compressor, but that's just me, many do it successfully. I'd prefer other multiband comps to C4 tho', Drawmer 1973 for example (Softube) or McDSP or PSP Oldtimer are all better choices depending on the style

@@WAERedthunder I think you may be confusing mastering as a process with the master fader. Master in terms of the fader is just the main one that controls all others if you will. Mastering a stereo track once mixed down is a separate process, typically done by someone other than the mix engineer on a different system. Usually this would involve bringing the track to commercial level, making any minor tonal adjustments, and if applicable making sure the tracks balance well with each other, for example in the case of an album. Hope that makes sense and helps a little bit.
