All these guy are iconic, but Hakeem Olajuwon is always tops for me. His athleticism, skill, and body control was comparable to the best guards and far beyond any other center, let alone 7-footers. His style was also damn entertaining to watch. As for Chamberlain, he was just leagues ahead of his time. It would be fun to see how monsterous he could be with modern training and against some of the best of the eras that have come since his time.

When dirk turned it on against lebron and the heat it changed the way I thought about him. That finals was a masterpiece for him.

Yao deserved his All-Star nod. He wasn't athletic, but never needed to be with that size and immense skill. Basketball IQ personified. He was bred to be the best, from China bringing his parents together to training him since the age of seven to local leagues.

the craziest stat about hakeem is he is one of four players to ever record a quadruple double. however, he could have easily had 30-40 quad dubs. he had so many games where he was a block or and assist away from doing it.

All you characters stroking Shaq crack me up. Shaq was a monster created by the NBA rule change that allowed the offense to crash to the basket. They wanted to create more scoring while at the same time more stars. Shaquille was the perfect fit for their plan, big smile, celebrity minded and once he got tagged the Diesel became a fan favorite. And let’s not forget how he loved to hang on the rim and break backboards. This was also part of the rule changes. So in reality we have two distinctly different NBA eras. The early NBA where the big men had to finesse their way to the basket, meaning they could not run over their opponents and todays league where a defensive player has no rights under the hoop. In fact if they get in the way it’s now a blocking foul. Old school fans remember the backing in rule where you could not bump your opponent out of the way, they were allowed to assume a defensive position between the basket and their adversary and force them to go around. Imagine if any old school center could have just run over their defender once inside that circle where their stats could be. Wilt played old school ball while the Shaq played the crash style, trying to compare is basically ludicrous. The other big mistake made in these comparisons is giving credit for titles won. This is not an individual stat but a team stat. Winning a title is a combination of things outside of a players control. It starts at the top with management putting together a team with good players. A coach who can create the chemistry and attitude needed to put the parts in the right places to win. Luck is needed to have a healthy team for the playoffs after an 82 game season. And maybe most important is does the NBA want your team to win! Those boys with the whistles have a lot to do with who wins. We’ve all seen the bad calls and non calls and scratched our heads thinking WTF. The next critical element is health and injuries. Some of the greatest players had injuries that cut short their careers. Bill Walton is not on this list, why? He may have been the best center of his time. If you read this thanks, take care.

If Wilt Chamberlain isn't #1 the list is wrong. He owns over 70 nba records averaged 30ppg and 20rpg for his career. He put up monster numbers against every great player he played against. He led the league in assists when they said he was only a scorer and then when they said he couldnt score anymore he went on a scoring rampage. He was stronger, faster and more agile than Shaq. If they counted blocks he would of averaged close to 8 a game. The number of triple doubles he could of had would of had him a the top of that list. Here's some sour grapes for you... I have a problem with a sport where body size is so valuable. This complaint is not directed just at basketball. I have the same problem with football and obese lineman. When I was a 17 year-old kid, about a thousand years ago, I lowered our driveway basket to 8'6". Given the ratio of my 5' 10" height (including my comparatively shorter arm length) in relation to the basket, I suddenly became a 7 footer. I could dominate most any 5' 7"er. I was a master dunker.

We have to remember that the NBA didn't keep stats on blocks when Wilt played. No doubt he would hold the NBA record for blocks too. The man averaged 50+ pts and 25+ rebounds for a season and a couple years later he led the league in assists. I realize this is a list of 7 footers but there were other centers in the league that were 6'10" or 6'11" that would bump some of these guys off this list.

Chamberlain could have said the same thing about Shaq that he said about Michael. Shaq benefited from officiating tailored to maximize his advantages, not minimize them. Of all the 7-footers on this list, Shaq had the fewest skills and worst fundamentals. Only for Shaq was “shuffle (travel)-charge-shuffle (travel)-dunk” considered a “go to” move. There’s a very good video here somewhere that shows how the officiating was so limiting for Chamberlain. Without that advantage, Shaq becomes just a bigger, less-skilled Daryl Dawkins.

It is important to say "most official blocks" for players like Olajuwan. It is very likely that Wilt and Russell top the list of most actual blocks, just as they top the rebounds list. The only significant change I make for my list is to put Wilt at the top.

I'd say you disrespected Wilt a little in this clip. I'd say he should be up there with Kareem, before Shaq and Hakeem. In his time they didn't count blocks, otherwise, he would've been the number one in this category, before Hakeem. He was stronger and more athletic than Shaq, and he was the only one to BLOCK Kareem's skyhooks, when he was already old.

In my Opinion they should have mentioned Dwight Howard. It's a shame how People forget about his insane Prime every time.
