What’s your top 10?

Best player ever is very subjective. There have been so many great players. Most complete player ever would have to be Dan Carter. He could run,pass,tackle and kick.He was master tactician. He destroyed the 2005 Lions team.He is two time world champion. Best forward ever in my opinion is Zinzan Brooke. Zinny was a forward but he could kick drop goals,run,pass and tackle. Zinny was playmaker who could out think the opposition.He was always step ahead of everyone.

Here are some others for consideration: Barry John, Mike Gibson, Don Clarke, Frik Du Preez, Dawie de Villiers, Bob Scott, George Nepia, Serge Blanco, John Eales, Colin Meades, Gareth Edwards.

I would like to get me some of what you are on......of all time suggests since the Ellis chap picked up the soccer ball! Some names prior to the late 1960's when your oldest player Edwards started: Danie Craven - played several positions in the forwards as well as the backline, famous as a scrumhalf, and was instrumental in handing the All Bkacks their first home series defeat in 1937. Hansie Brewis never played in a losing test and as flyhalf orchestrated the only series whitewash handed to the AB's in 1949. Hennie "windhond" Muller the man who revolusionised, and created the way eigthmen should play, who showcased exceptional speed and was also a member of the '49 team that walloped the AB's as well as Grand Slam win in the UK, France and Ireland in '51/'52. This tour included a 44 nil drubbing against Scotland when tries scored amounted to 3 points! Frik du Preez unparralelled as lock and flanker, in his playing days against players like Willi John Mcbride, Colin Meades (all 3 could probably feature in a group naming the best locks af all time)etc. Two Lions series wins, in '62 and '68 a loss to the AB's in '65 and win against AB's in 1970 and whitewash against Australia in 1971 and for good meausure was a great goalkicker! All members of the Hall of fame, which must prove their graetness as, like on your list, the selection of Springboks are lacking, eventhough they were never beaten in a series from the 1890's up to 1955, dominated results against ALL opposition(especially the six nations sides) including the All Blacks up to the 1995 RWC final, won the RWC at their first attempt, and is the most succesful team in RWC history to date!

The best running fullback of all time is Christian Cullen. He scored 46 tries in test matches. Quality of his tries nobody comes even close.

We keep getting these ‘greatest of all’ lists, often from ex-players. Isn’t it strange that all of those chosen are within the memory of those doing the choosing. No Jack Kyle, no Cliff Morgan. No Colin Meads,no John Kirwan. The fact is you can’t choose ‘the greatest ever’ when different eras are involved.

Maybe an umpopular opinion, but I think Antoine Dupont is now a better scrum half than Gareth Edwards

McCaw at number 1 is insulting. Great player, but not even close to being the best rugby player of all time.

Nope. Just nope. Some of these guys deserve to be near, and even on, this list, but there are others who don't even get a mention? McCaw, the greatest ever? Seriously?! Lomu at #2? Come on, friend. If youwant to teach us to suck eggs, you should at least know something about eggs. 🥚 The list needs Fitzpatrick, Sella, Gerber, Matfield. I can live with Carter, Blanco and Edwards being here, but where's my guys Leonard and Du Randt? Ever heard of Christian Cullen? Engage your brain, please, and try again.
