I'm not entirely sure I'd recommend it as a starter, but I had a lot of success combining the Swarmblade and Thorn Totem ideas for hundreds of stacks of frostbite. Thorn totem poison/frostbite got nerfed a bit, but the self/minion cold pen on weapons looks like it will make it stronger.

A quite nice leveling 'buff' for Bleed Warlock is that Ochirian's Petals is a guaranteed Unique drop that has a lot of physical damage-related mods.

@@synxss So there is a time rift in the Brown Lands (I think) in the Imperial era. Go in there. It goes to the Ancient area, and at the end of that zone is a boss, O(r)chirian? Kill it, and he is guaranteed to drop the Unique Ochirian's Petals. It is only one of two guaranteed uniques you can get in the campaign of LE, to my knowledge.

I really wish storm totem shaman was a thing. That skill is so cool in theory but I've never seen it work without some major cheese.

i think i'll be starting off with rogue, not sure what though. i really like the look of cold acid flask with the new item, and acid flask got buffs anyway. ballista however, got massive buffs and i might just go straight up for ballista build. maybe a poison version, seems like you could stack a ton of poisons very quickly as long as you can get enough atk spd for the ballistas

I've done tier lists / best list stuff for awhile, and honestly if I tried to come up with objective metrics and quantify everything I'd go insane checking and double checking and honestly probably recommend worse builds. Because at the end of the day, more people want a build that looks pretty and fits their idea of fun, than "can push 1000 corruption in the least hours with perfect play'. Not saying that content doesn't have its place, just that it's not for me.

Hi I'm new to this game but was really interested with the build showcase that plays right before the interview portion of the video starts. It's listed under the Thorn Totem showcase but it looks to be a mage. Any chance anyone knows what build this is and where I could find a guide for it?

That's a Cast on Crit Harbinger of the Stars build, Dr3adful has a guide but it's NOT a starter for a beginner, definitely a second build.

Good video! I'm looking for a good Runemaster build that will play well with a controller. Hydra is frustrating because you can't place it where you want with a controller. Is Frostclaw better? How about Plasma Orb? Disintegrate doesn't work at all on controller (you can't change the aim on it once you start channeling like you can on PC). Any other ideas?

@@blackomega34 Good to know! Maybe I'll check that build out again. Hydra doesn't seem viable on the controller. Not sure about Frostclaw though, it seems to auto-target, but the ground targeting can cause misses. Maybe Plasma Orb would be better, they seem to autotarget once you have them out.

My problem with Rogue is that if I chose that one is not for running a mele fighter with daggers (no matter how good) but due the bow (which is the most distinctive weapon). I I wanted a mele I would run a Sentinel or a Primalist. And bow builds for starters aren't as strong, in my limited experience in the last two weeks...

has thehydra build has been impacted quite alot with the nerf to damage and ragne and the also on the defence with the addition odfa cooldown on frost wall with the ward node

Is armor affix on gear mandatory like Diablo 4?

There are implicit mods on gear for armor. Those are flat values and the passive tree will give you your % values. So it shouldn't be too hard for you to scale it without spending very many affix slots. Chest, boots, gloves and head all have flat rolls on them so you will not have to worry too much

With all the skills changes from launch, would you please edit it? Also, might be a good idea to rank them from most recommanded to least recommanded, if possible. There's a lack of starter builds, so your video is very important IMHO. In any case, thanks.

Ranking them is difficult because there's a fair bit of subjectivity when it comes to playstyles. For some people Minions are a complete non-starter, for others they're a must-play. I'll definitely make a new list in the future (probably for 1.1 or 1.2) but I don't have a good way to edit the video and account for the 1.0.1 to 1.0.5 updates so for now it's just the builds as they were for 1.0. ----- When it comes to live service games things are always changing, which is why I link to the Maxroll guides which are maintained throughout the smaller patches.

@@Tenkiei I understand. Ranking is not very important in my opinion. The more important is that list and, maybe, which one you recommand the most as the easiest ones. In my opinion, a real starter build should have: - no specific gear or a kind of unique that you find a bit early at the beginning. - skills available early and no respect. - good or very good defense (early builds need that). - Easy to play (that's more for beginners than starters but it's often the same). I don't mention obvious things like: AOE+ single target skills, damage as good as possible, etc. Of course this is my opinion but there is some criteria. Easier said than done heh? ;) What do you think or what are your criteria if they are different.

Early, bleed. Late I'm not sure, but personally I think Torment has a more relaxed playstyle.

@khd6304 I haven't tried torment yet but bleed feels very good. Chaos bolts and Chthonic Fissure mesh extremely well. The build lets you stack ignite chance and damned chance then convert that to bleeds so you can apply 100 stacks in a couple seconds

All of my recommendations were made taking patch notes into account. Several of these builds did get very minor (irrelevant) nerfs but remain among the best leveling / early game builds in the game.

Flame Wraith has some big nerfs.. The biggest nerf is the key Unique staff needed for this build.. 'Abberrant Call' only buffs "melee" dmg. So it no longer applies to flame wraith spells.

Flame Wrath also got some pretty big buffs which counteract these nerfs, for example if you get an Abberant's with LP you can use the new minion damage/minion bow damage affix which gives base damage (since you have other sources of increase this is probably stronger than before).

Flame wraiths got nerfed pretty hard. Maybe still good but definetly cut down a peg.

It's still the most well-rounded minion build based on the discussions I had. If we're talking all types of minions Falconer is way better but some people want that necromancer minion army fantasy and I do think this is still a very solid choice.

So wait. There's not a single build that fulfills the most basic ARPG fantasy of getting a big sword and killing a boss WITH IT? Is there a build that actually utilizes the weapon you're holding in your hands when attacking? And no, Warpath spin-to-win does not count since you can't see the weapon, it might as well be described as "turn into a circle and get over mobs". I don't want turrets, totems, zombies, wolves, etc. doing the killing, I don't want them to die from damage over time, I want to walk to a mob and hit it with my axe. Any recommendation?

D4, Also I've noticed besides the shitty animations and clunkyness this game has is the super small mobs. I tried this game in January I played for about 3 or 4 hrs as a sentinel It was pretty boring and hard to get passed the 2008 grfx(yes i realize its not a AAA title). I'm gonna give it another shot today just wish there was more endgame and better gear in D4.

Warlock seems boring, looks like they made cathartic fissure way too powerful so itll be the only option, locking everyone into a 1 button build.

I think there's going to be some build diversity, chthonic just works well out of the box so it's a great early game option before you have gear.

This is one of the things that I think these ARPGs don’t do very well. All these 1 button builds and 1 shotting mobs make for a very dull experience imho. I’d much prefer there to be more meaningful mobs that take some skill/strategy to kill. I will make the gameplay a little slower but a lot more enjoyable imho, not to mention that there would also be less loot drops so you can focus more on gameplay. :)

I'm hyped about last epoch but I have a feeling that playing last epoch will feel like diablo 3 at some point. Spam 2 skills and everything dies. Gameplay looks actually very boring because of this. Everything dies too fast. Or in the end game it will be much harder? It also feels like every build can do everything which is weird. in poe one build is for bossing one for delving one for mapping.

Like I disclaimed in the video, a lot of the footage is just me hitting some low level/early endgame enemies to show off skill visuals. It's not indicative of endgame gameplay. There are definitely some builds which play like that. However there's a lot of combo-based builds. I didn't showcase as many here because they tend to be less beginner friendly. (Example Hydra Runemaster)

The Whirlwind animation and lack of "impact" on hits while using it is probably the worst I've seen in a ARPG.. most likely ever... Looks like a ballerina spinning in circles. I know it sounds dumb... but I cant see myself ever playing that build just because of how terrible the animation looks (this coming from a LOOONNNGGGG term Whirlwind/Cyclone player in basically every other ARPG made)

no skill in the entire game can crit 1 million (divebomb), everything sits between 10-30k dps overall, so they HAVE to nerf divebomb, i dont see this not happening, how can you have a build that out dps so many others that there is NO reason to play anything else, its like a diablo 4 barb with hota vs a necromancer doing 1 mil dmg, why would you EVER go necro if the barb can do 1000x more

Plenty of reasons to play other builds. You dont HAVE to play the obligatory "this too op" build if you dont want to and there are plenty of builds in LE that can do well far into the end game. Find a build you like that appeals to you.

@@MikkiZHskDK because this isnt a competitive game and you are already complaining about being pigeon holed into playing a singular build? Also nice edit to your original statement, so while I am here I will answer your newer question as well. A person might not like playing Barbs or the skill Barbs are using to hit those 1mil dmg, they might prefer playing a Necromancer, or a Rogue, or a Druid and be content in playing those classes compared to playing a Barb.
