The big urban centers have betrayed the Black American, who was simply looking for better opportunities for themselves and their families. Big Cities have become the epicenters of crimes & violence, high unemployment rates, deplorable public education systems, lack of affordable housing, skyrocketing rents, corrupt leadership, and urban decay. Better opportunities and lifestyle are the reasons Black Americans left the South at the beginning of the 20th century… and these are the same reasons why Black Americans are returning back… and even branching out West.

An awesome video! I am also military. I've visited and lived in over 40 countries, including most large US cities. From what I've experienced, most people focus too much on the macro issues and don't give enough credit to the small things, such as the importance of a social life. I'm now 55. When I was in my 30-40s, I felt comfortable knowing that I could find a full social life almost at will; believe me, when you get older, finding good friends is difficult; there are only so many bars, churches, sporting events, and festivals you can attend. I currently live in Northern Virginia, but my social life is global. This didn't happen overnight. I have worked on it for the past 15 years. I have seen so many people that are lonely and depressed because they thought their partner would always be their social buddy. I got news for you, people die, friends fade/move away, and divorce happens ever-increasingly. Your ability to maintain or extend your social life wherever you go may seem like a small, easy thing to do, but without putting in the work, it gets complicated when you suddenly find yourself alone-not trying to trigger anyone, just my $.02.
@angelasmith7369
@angelasmith7369 Жыл бұрын
Wow, you are so right. Folks don't seem to realize people die, etc., everything you mentioned. I've also realized anymore that many people don't seem to want to socialize as they once did. I supposed because in some ways, they're less willing to trust considering the atmosphere, the headlines. Seemingly folks are for the most part only interested in the familiarity of the clicks they've always had. Even something as little as speaking, and if you try to initiate a friendly 'hello,' they seem to react as if you're weird. Crazy...

I left Chicago in 2001 and moved to Orlando. I was there for five years before moving to Las Vegas in 2006. Stayed there until 2017 headed to Edmonton. Moved back to Las Vegas which was fine until 2020. People leaving California relocated to Vegas driving the housing cost up, the violence has increased along with a massive homeless population.. So after 2022 we will be moving to Rwanda.

Very interesting video! I correctly guessed Dallas, Phoenix, Charlotte and of course Atlanta would be on this list for cities blacks are moving to. I visited 3 of those 4 cities within the past 4 years. I've never been to Charlotte yet. My experiences there were decent, but not exciting. I'm still stuck here in the metro area of Chicago. I want to relocate to somewhere where I have relatives who can help me get around a city I'm unfamiliar with.

I’m from NC and went to college in Charlotte and I can surely say Charlotte has grown tremendously just in the past 10yrs. Its an hour drive from where I stay in the country between Greensboro and Winston Salem. The taxes and cost of living in Charlotte from my understanding is higher than Atlanta now. Charlotte is a great city but I would never want to live there again.

Before relocating ANYWHERE, to start, ensure you have: 1. An understanding of vital state and county laws, including criminal, tax, and real estate laws. [You'll be surprised how many archaic laws are still on the books. Research heavily.] 2. A profitable profession, i.e. bus. owner, IT, RN, .. . 3. Reliable transportation-- 2 modes if possible 4. An excellent public school system for your children [based upon U.S. standings, not state; the best state school may still be behind the national standing--- exercise caution] 5. Thoroughly researched the demographics and cultural enrichment opportunities to broaden horizons if desired --Good Luck

I moved to Phoenix AZ in 2018, and the rent has soared within the past few years. You can't even buy a house out here anymore due to the bidding wars and the people from California moving here and paying cash for homes. Now, on another note, Phoenix does have alot of jobs. You will be able to get something pretty fast. I got a job here before I moved here. There are tons of jobs on Indeed. They generally pay better over here than on the East Coast. The weather is great. Its sunny majority of the year, but can get up to 120 degrees during the Summer (dry heat), and maybe 40s-50s during Winter. But, the rent is beyond ridiculous right now. My rent went up $450 within 2 months. The average rent for a decent spot is around $1600 plus. There is plenty to do here, especially since you are 4 hours away from Vegas and California. And it's recreational here too. There are many spots to purchase MMJ legally. With all that being said, Phx is more for families. There are alot of couples and families here. So if you are in a relationship, married, etc, I think this could work for you. If you are single, probably not as much. The dating scene isn't great. I am now single and work remote. So I decided to move to a smaller city In AZ that is way cheaper. There is nothing to do here, but it's only a few hours away from Cali, Mexico, PHX and Vegas. But no matter where you live, I would recommend everyone check out remote work and move to a smaller, cheaper city, if possible. Every state has a smaller, affordable city that you can move to.

Yes Raleigh is the fastest growing city because of the tech companies relocating here. However, Charlotte is seeing major growth with new jobs. Raleigh has much better schools than Charlotte but Charlotte has a lot more to offer from a things to do standpoint. Raleigh cost of living is very high and only getting higher. People are homeless and living in the woods off the I-540/Capital Blvd exit because they could no longer afford rent. It's only getting worse with Apple and these other big companies relocating all their employees here with salaries averaging 187k.

What I would have found boring in my 20s/30s, I am discovering that I love those same things in my early 40s. Pristine streets and architecture surrounded my the ocean, mountains, and nature? I wouldn't recommend Seattle ever to Black families and professionals. Seattle is expensive, and the Black population is spread out amongst the surrounding cities such as Federal Way, Renton, Des Moines, Kent, Tacoma, etc. There is a housing crisis in the city, and most of the residents are priced out and gentrified out of formerly Black communities such as the Central District and South Seattle. Visit the city first. Get a feel for it, and go wherever you like. You can always move again if you want to.

I moved from Miami to Denver in 2008 for a job after college. My father has family here and so far it's been a nice place to live. It is getting damn expensive though...

The prices for everything in Atlanta is getting out of control. I moved back to upstate NY from Atlanta 2 years ago and it was the best decision for me. It's a great city to visit but I wouldn't want to live there again.

I found a really cute town in upstate NY too, and it’s calm, good schools, hopefully they don’t move in drones and mess it up !

Left Chicago in 2002, moved to Nashville TN. My kids, we're young then. Didn't want them to see that cold-hearted environment that Chicago has. Been here 20 years. Go, Simeon!

I think any place you live is what you make of it. If you travel frequently and are married it shouldn't matter at all. I grew up as a navy brat and lived everywhere. As an adult I lived in Florida, Atlanta metro and moving to Vegas next month. I know I'll be happy because of the attitude I have about life.

I left Jax 5 years ago and currently live in Charlotte. Beautiful city, but it's dead! Charlotte caters to whites and their is not a black scene, nor any type of culture. I'm out!

My guess is " seasoned " is like many Black Folks not sensitive to racism which is really a good thing for us as we are powerless to get rid of the White Racism which has us still in chains figuratively. To my shock, the South remains dominated by the same " White Conservative false Christian values " ( a long term for racism ) that existed prior to the Civil War White People fought to maintain slavery and separate from our Country. So, her suggestion " likely Down South " will surprise Black Folks moving back home from the Progressive North as it has for me living in NY all of my life. So, Black Folks if you don't want to be surrounded by visible racism think hard before moving South. The election of the unfit, lying, sexual harasser and promoter of White Supremacy Donald Trump should be a wake-up call to everyone not White. " They haven't changed and they ain't playing!".

I grew up in a military family so I have lived in NJ, PA, NC, OH, IL, IA , Okinawa JP, and CA growing up. I am originally from NOLA and lived in a suburb 20 minutes from there for 15 years after my dad retired until Katrina. I miss Louisiana. As an adult I have lived in East TX and North FL. I live in Marietta GA now which coincidentally was voted one of the best places to live in the US. I love the weather here. I am not willing to live in a place that has floods, snow storms, droughts, wildfires, tornados and especially hurricanes! Atlanta metro has a stable climate nothing to extreme. While I don’t recommend living in the city of Atlanta I do enjoy the outskirts. Atlanta is crowed, the traffic is horrible, the crime has shot up and it’s expensive but if you live 30 to 45 minutes outside the city in all directions it’s actually quite pleasant.
