I never thought I'd make this video! Here's 10 comics that had a bit of market OVER-correction that don't seem justified when you consider the impact of the character! What other 9.8 keys or perhaps raws do you think took a dive which, if we're being honest with ourselves, doesn't seem justified? Let me know in the comments below!

The explosion of graded copies over the years of all these have saturated the market to the point you can find them all day every day on eBay and elsewhere in 9.8. It's great to wish they sold for more but the reality of a collectible market will show what they are truly worth.

I agree BUT I wanted to make this video to point out exceptions… a lot of these don’t have tons of 9.8s out there, so due to who the character meets the lack of 9.8s for these is surprising. Many comics there are plenty of 9.8s though and thus the price naturally would be lowrf

All the books in your list can easily be found at 9.8, but the point is it's fine to think they are worth X amount, but the market dictates what people are willing to pay at any time..@@MintHunterComics

@@MintHunterComics I agree with you to an extent. I mean, I am subbed to your channel, and I like your content. With that being said, what happened in the 90s with the comic boom is happening now with graded comics. Everyone and their brother has graded comics. -- I can walk into my local shop and there are bins of slabs of random 9.6 and 9.8s. It has become such a thing to grade that it was a bubble waiting to burst. Just my two cents. :)

IMO the minute differences between a 9.6 to 9.8 isn't worth the crazy price difference. I've even seen some 9.6s look better than 9.8s in the slab.

Let's not forget that prices are dictated by demand. Azrael wasn't seen in comics for a while (didn't he just reappear in the Batman books?). Who cares about Azrael? Same with Agents of Atlas. They had their 15 minutes of fame but, honestly, IMO, that's a $40 book slabbed. Cassandra Cain? Is she even still around? I have no idea. LOL I DO agree with you on Kyle Raynor. That should be a steady $200 book, if not higher. I think the issue with Secret Wars is that SO many people are focused on #8 that everything else gets pushed to the wayside. Huntress? Not a top tier character even though I love her. Great vid!

I can’t wait until people start doing X-men keys post-Giant Sized. It’s wild how strong a lot of those holds are. Like New X-Men 133. A modern MINOR X-men key and I cannot get that comic in a 9.8 under $300.

The big culprit is the number of 9.8s out there. Most of these books were hot and then submissions shot thought the roof. Then the market was hit with a loy of 9.8 Omega Red and Squirrel Girl. They're not as rare anymore.

Honestly, I think several things are contributing to the low slab prices. 1) In the case of a lot of these books, they're just not rare. Maybe 9.8's are, but not the books in general. Some exceptions would be Sword of Azrael and the Marvel Super-Heroes book. They're more rare than most, but suffer from what has been done to the characters. Back in the 90's, good luck finding a cheap Sword of Azrael #1. But that character has been nerfed and mis-used so much that he's just not got much of a fan base anymore. And Squirrel Girl....Even though some of her appearances have been pretty funny and fun, she is kind of seen, thanks to her last run, as a lot of what is wrong with the "woke comic culture." Previous fans are just tuning out because they see it as part of the problem. 2) Comics in general are in a down-market. I'm not one of these people shouting that the sky is falling, but we're in one of those slumps that tend to happen after a boom. This one is more obvious because comics were such a big deal during the Covid Boom and the comic book films were bringing in a lot of people more interested in collecting rather than reading alone into the market. With the burn out/failure of so many comic movies, the mainstream is starting to tune out and there just isn't as much movement as there was a while back. I'm sure it will drift back to normal status eventually, but right now, it's a buyer's market. And with so many re-sellers trying to unload, it's making the prices drop pretty intensely...Especially on books that have been too highly priced to start with. 3) The Slab Scam. With the issues with the CGC slabs being opened and switched, a lot of people are probably getting nervous about buying slabbed books. Honestly, I don't know what will come of this. I don't think it will be the end of slabbing, but I don't know that there is much that CGC can do to protect the books even more. This is just kind of something that, like Thanos, was inevitable. So, strangely enough, at the moment raw high grade copies are probably trusted more than slabbed books.

5:55 - I had a handful of GL 48's from my personal collection (original owner) that I sent to CGC early last year: about half and half 9.6's and 9.8's. I sold through most of them last year (kept 1, a DCU logo 9.8), and most of the 9.8's, as you indicated, went in the $120-130 range. (All sales started as $99 7-day auctions.) But my last 9.8 only sold for the start price of $99, the sale on 12/23/23 shown in your screenshot. And that was AFTER it had been relisted a time or two with no bids. The market is slowing, and prices are dropping.

Many I agree with are too low (Especially Kyle Rayner and Cassandra Cain) I remember those days where DC killed Superman, broke Batman, and turned Green Lantern into a villain. Months later, Superman and Batman returned but Green Lantern? Hal's Fans had to wait a DECADE for him to return as Green Lantern. One of the reasons was that Kyle developed such a huge fanbase. I'm more of a Hal Fan but I could definitely see Kyle's Appeal. Hal was the Swashbuckler Hero that took out opponents with fists and occasional constructs, Kyle felt more like a relatable person but most importantly, he was an artist that had a tool powered by his imagination. The constructs alone that he created made his books worth picking up. Cassandra is my favorite heroine in all comic books. I absolutely love her story and Batgirl #25 when she was forced into a fight to the death with Lady Shiva ranks as the second best fight in all comic books. Unfortunately Cass's Character was destroyed in Robin #50 and she never made a full recovery. Still hoping one day she returns to her pre-52 glory. The one I disagree with on that list is X-Men #4. My reason is far too much supply on this one. There are almost 12K copies graded and around 4750 copies in a cgc 9.8 alone. Omega Red or not, no way I'd pay over $140 for that one.
@Rancor1182
@Rancor1182 6 ай бұрын
X-Men #4 decrease in price could have been partially influenced by speculation that Omega Red will be in the next Deadpool movie, and that movie being delayed a long with an overall decline in popularity of comic book movies.

Other than the GL, I have all those books shown (some graded, some raw), and completely agree that the drop on a few of them is perplexing. I guess it "is what it is" and all that, but seeing non-spec'd upon books drop below pre-boom prices is just...annoying.

I've been able to score a few Wonder Woman 105 CGC 9.8's for dreadfully cheap. Direct for $40 newsstand for $70. My belief is that there's just so many issues and various variants of issues that there's not enough eyes to go around to follow everything that deserves watching. Really valuable comics sell at auction for super cheap because the market is saturated with so much stuff that things inevitably get overlooked when they shouldn't.

I don't know how much upside that there will ever be with Punisher War Journal 6 or Secret Wars 3, for the same reason that Spawn 1 never goes very high: there's too large of a supply from a time where comic books sold far more than they do now. The Punisher was already one of Marvel's top selling comics in 1989, enough that they gave him a second book, and comic book stores knew that Jim Lee + first meeting with Wolverine and Punisher would be huge and ordered more than usual. And even though Punisher is apparently going to become part of the MCU, he'll never be close in popularity to what he was in the late 80s and early 90s. Contrast that to DD 158 (first Miller) or ASM 298 (first TMac). Those titles weren't even in Marvel's top 20 when Miller and TMac took over. Anyone feel free to correct my numbers with actual numbers.

I agree your list of books are undervalued, and there are probably 50 other modern 9.8 first appearances that can be added to the list as well if you wanted to make an hour-long video. In my opinion, there are a lot of contributing factors to the drops aside from 2021/2022 price corrections. 1) A lot of the flippers are now out of the hobby and books are not turning over as much. 2) Lack of interest - as movies, TV series, and new comics just aren't that good to keep the motivation to collect comics going. 3) Inflation is real. It's difficult to spend money on buying a Secret Wars #3 when the electric bill is 40% higher, and hamburger meat at the grocery store is 50% higher Hobbies have to take a back seat. 4) The world is changing. Younger millennials and Gen Zrs aren't necessarily into owning physical copies of things, like the first appearance of Kyle Rayner (same for Blu-Ray and CD collections). This causes the pool of people that buy these books to get smaller and smaller and the demand to go down. Demand = price.
