@@les4767 When we speak of "cosmos", we are speaking of the entirety of it. The nothingness prior to the formation of the universe, space and time, all that good stuff. "Space" is a small segment within the universe, or cosmos. SO when we speak of Azathoth, Cthulhu, the elder gods, eldritch horror, so and so forth, we are speaking of beings that are as ancient as the cosmos itself. When we speak of the xenomorph, we are speaking of a creature that exists in a limited space within the cosmos. Humans, just as xenos exists within a limited speck of space within the cosmos. If we followed your logic, then an astronaut movie would also be considered a cosmic movie. So tell me, are we cosmic beings?. or are we defined by the limited space we occupy in the confines of the universe?.

I mean, if you twist it sideways, it sort of accurate, but it made me ask the same question. I'm hoping there is a set of initial writers who have actually watched the movies and then editors and a narrator who might not, so they may make changes that end up being wrong when they think they are just cleaning something up. At least I hope so. I cannot believe that my KZfaq entertainment is based on a lie.

“Annihilation” does not belong on this list - it was visually impressive, but the writing and characterization was lackluster. Seriously, they should have just titled this film “A bunch of ill-equipped chicks throw themselves into harm’s way for no discernible reason” and it would have been more apt. And this film could have easily cut more than 30 minutes of footage about the main character dwelling on her bad marriage: it added nothing to the story and took focus off the bizarre phenomena occurring around them! Don’t compare this film to “The Colour out of Space” as that tale was actually well-conceived.

Falling asleep to these videos it is near impossible hahah. I don't know what the sounds are in the background of some of these but they really screw me up. It's not loud enough to be super obvious, especially as I had the volume low as people are sleeping. But every video had something that either made it sound like a helicopter was circling above (not aided by the motion sensor lights going off a few times, like are they searching for someone out there?) or something that sounded like footsteps walking around in the house. It's just at the edge of my hearing when my ear is to my pillow but not obvious where it is coming from and harder to hear when I sit up to listen, took me a while to figure it out, and is super distracting in the dark in bed late at night, made me so paranoid XD Not a complaint just a weird observation I made last night lol.

@Uzgun Domates My disappointment had nothing to do what “happily ever after” endings or what-not and more to do with the terrible characterization and very, very slow pacing First, let’s look at the premise of the film - the highly-trained commando units sent into this bizarre alien phenomenon disappear with a trace except for one guy, and these people want to send in an all-female team of bookworms because…. Reasons? Even a basic exercise in logic says this is a suicide mission (something bookworms aren’t known for going on…) and, as it turns out, the only trait all the characters share is a desire to die! It’s like this whole mission was just an elaborate way for these hapless nerds to kill themselves! Sorry, but a horror story with characters that deliberately seek their own deaths isn’t very compelling. Also, the pacing was ridiculously slow due in large part to all the flashbacks of the main protagonist’s failing marriage - who gives a shit about any of that? Do we get insights into the family life of Professor Armitage in “The Dunwich Horror” or learn about the relationship between the nameless protagonist of “Dagon” and his wife (if he even has one)? No! Such details detract from the horrifying scene around the characters in this cosmic horror tale and the horror is the true star of the show: not some insignificant little human’s failing relationships.

I need to see the B&W version of the Mist... I'm sure the intended art will be much better than the color version. Speaking of color, Richard Stanley's Color Out of Space should have bumped something out of this 10... But what? Probably Annihilation. Wait. I only count 9 here, skipping through again. Just add it. 1. Event Horizon 2. Uzumaki (haven't seen yet but wanted to for a while) 3. The Void 4. The Mist 5. Annihilation 6. The Cabin In the Woods 7. In The Tall Grass 8. The Thing 9. Absentia (never hear of; Thanks!) Wait again, reading down the comments, Alien deserves a place here. So what now to bump out? Probably Annihilation.

Number one you guys missed the fact that both Stephen King and his son Joe Hill wrote In The Tall Grass. Stop skipping over Joe Hill people, he is an amazing horror writer and sometimes his work rivals and at times is better then Stephen Kings. I know unpopular opinion. Also, how do you keep missing In The Mouth of Madness that movie is fantastic and defines comic horror at it's finest.

Keep it coming with body horror and cosmic horror movies I need more to watch lol. I love these kind of lists. I've never realized how much I like cosmic horror stories. I love all of these movies, with the exception of The Void. The Mist and The Thing (notice him painting using The Thing poster as reference in The Mist), Annihilation and Cabin in the woods, are all classics. Resolution, and it's semi-sequel; The Endless are great, introspective films about brotherhood along with some sort of mysterious force at play. Both might be slow for some, but amazing ideas and dialogue and I find myself thinking about both movies. Finally, I think John Carpenter's In The Mouth of Madness is missing from this list. For some reason I'd never watched it, and when I did, it became on my favourite horror movies. Creepy.

Like and thanks. As for me, my opinion (in case someone cares) is that Lovecraftian horror may encompass both Great Old Ones and Elder Race, aliens of all kind, Earth-bound Dagon and Cthulthu. as well as all those fish-men, bog-dwellers, vampires and zombies, tentacles and toothy monsters. mutants etc., but to qualify those should be behind-the-scenes most of the time, only gradually making their presence felt, with no jump-scare. That is, with an incerasing suspence. Whereas "cosmic horror" is a much more narrow element of "Lovecraftioan horror", referring only to "big" creatures. really big. stellar-size like Yog-Sothtoth, Azathoth and maube some others. Their distinctive feature is that they are not intentionally hostile to humankind. They do not wish to enslave humans like Cthulthu or eliminate them/ Theysimp;y do not care, like a man trampling s tiny bug on his path being totally unaware abot that. In this respect they are akin to earthquakes, tornados, volcans, asteroids. supernova, i.e. forces of nature which cannot be appease, rebuffed or bribed. "Color out of Space" also qualify be one of "cosmic horrors" as different from some mad scientist's creatures.
