In terms of sheer HORROR. Nothing and I mean NOTHING compares to the David Busst's career ending leg break at Old Trafford. The match was stopped for about 20-30 minutes as they tended to him and washed the blood off the pitch. The Man united goalkeeper threw up and was so shook he was substituted cause he couldn't continue. I myself was so traumatized I literally stopped watching football for about a year

Yep, I didn't see it live, but I heard radio commentary and that was bad enough. As a Coventry fan, I can tell you he never played again and had over 40 operations on his leg. He was walking with a crutch permanently, at the age of 28. They had to wash the blood off the pitch, it was horrific.

The David Busst incident was a freak accident though, As horrific and traumatic as it was it was not a deliberate tackle intent on ruining someones career or stopping them at any cost.

I still think this was the worst ever foul committed in the professional game - if you have a chance to see a slo-mo replay of the incident you will discover that Schumacher deliberately changed the direction of his run because he realised after he set off that he would be beaten to the ball by Battiston - in other words he willfully played the man rather than the ball with a two footed, kneck high challenge that could easily have killed Battiston instantly - not only did the German keeper's challenge deserve red, he should have been arrested on the pitch side and transported to the nearest jail, awaiting charges for attempted murder and GBH!

Top 3 (In my opinion): 1. Roy Keane on Alfie Haaland 2. Harald Schumacher on Patrick Battiston 3. Ben Thatcher on Pedro Mendes Honestly, any fouls involving unconscious victims or injuries from the upper body is terrible enough; however, Roy Keane's attack has been the biggest foul because he did it on purpose in retaliation, plus, he ended Alfie's football career with that foul and after that, he will be shattered in darkness and hatred from others.

Gomes' injury was from the collision with the defender. Son just knocked him into the challenge. To any neutral fan, that wasn't a reckless challenge, just really unfortunate. Scousers won't agree because they like to think they're always victims.

Having had my knee bent sideways playing indoor soccer(not cleated, 300lbs guy tripped and rolled up the side of my knee. I crawled off the field and tried not to throw up) this is painful to watch. 6:51 Whew. I couldn't imagine how Frankie De Jong was playing in 2010. Barcelona fan. 7:21 Half the damn Spanish team played for Barcelona.

One of the many shocking things about Schumacher‘s foul was how he behaved afterwards. He just stood there waiting for the match to continue, giving the impression that didn‘t care a bit about what just had happened. His snotty remark after the match that he would pay Battiston‘s medical bill didn‘t help, either. In fact, as he wrote years later, this latter remark was meant honestly, and he hadn‘t apologized to Battiston right on the field because he himself had been so shocked by what he had done that he just froze and didn‘t know what to do. Being a German myself, I still don‘t understand how anyone could have the guts to become the most hated person in all France for years and even be turned on to deliver some legendary performances before French audiences, but at the same time be such a pussy to not do the most basic thing of human decency and walk over to the person you could have killed seconds ago and at least ask how he is doing. As this had not been the only unpleasent incident in the 1982 world cup, the German 1982 team is today remembered on one side as arguably the best German side ever that didn‘t become world champions, but at the same time as a bunch of arrogant pri**s that didn‘t care for anything else but hookers and money. Nobody in Germany has much celebrated the 1982 silver medal. Everybody was just relieved the thing was over.

It is so good there's VAR now. Most of these errors in judgment from the refs are very rare now. VAR can still be a bit fishy at times when they don't call the Ref's attention to review a play that was a wrong call. They, the VAR send a signal to the Ref's armband to vibrate, so he know he should go and check the play on screen, but it is entirely to the Ref to go or ignore the call. But there are also times the VAR doesn't send the signal at all on a pretty obvious bad call.
