It wasn't a malfunction. That's the difference between Watching a video and seeing it live. It was definitely planned. She even had a star nipple cover on. She wasn't embarrassed. This was also during the time Janet was doing a lot of things to get attention cause she was trying yo change her image and be more sexual in her music/videos. She just didn't plan for the backlash that came with it. So she went the p.r. route and said it was a malfunction.

It’s so sad too cause I can just imagine what it would have been like if they chose a better song & changed the whole backdrop & scene. It looks so bad cause they have so many gaps in the background, and everything is spread out. They should have put a forest scene instead & added a swing or some steps for the background dancers (definitely go with regular background dancers but with well designed costumes).

The Black Eyed Peas’ music has always been kinda weird, but the general vibe I get from them is that of a dance club. That kinda music generally isn’t done in a concert like this, so this whole performance felt bizarre in a cringe kinda way.

Most of the disaster was the sound was horribly mixed and cut in and out as they tried to fix it. This can be blamed on the NFL. They wouldn't let the Peas use their own equipment insisting that they go through the stadiums. then did not provide them the opportunity to do an adequate sound check. You find the same thing with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers where they didn't want to go through the trouble of setting up for live music and instead insisted on a prerecorded track. It was very obvious that they were not plugged in as Flea and Chad Smith were more interested in hamming it up than putting in a realistic air performance.

@Jack Nicolas I completely agree that Prince's halftime show was awesome! I saw it live (on tv, that is). He is a legend, sorely missed like MJ. My point was that, without MJ totally changing the whole vibe of what a halftime show could be, Prince's show may never would have happened. Here's hoping we have another good one this year. Peace.
