A big reason for Denzel's success is that he is an unselfish performer who has no problem sharing the spotlight or even taking a supporting role and manages to strengthen any film he does. He is the soul of commitment.

@@TheLuscious Yes, he is a proven headliner. Here are some tasty facts: Antoine Fisher had his blessing, but the studio demanded that he direct it. Also, he had a strong supporting role in Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing. The man has spent many years honing his craft and never wasting his talent. In any case, he brings it and does not mistake ego for talent.

When I saw his role in “Flight”, I remember thinking, ‘How can that brilliant performance be topped?” I could actually feel his character’s pain and the conflict within himself. And at his moment of redemption was as real as it gets.

he is a personal favourite actor but unless your counting tv show episodes he also hasn't been in a hundred films That said top 20 at least. Courage under fire, Pelican brief, Fallen, the manchurian candidate and the siege weren't even mentioned

What about John Q?! "I am NOT burying my son! My son is going to bury me!" I don't know why Denzel didn't at least get nominated for that one. And what about "Man on Fire"? Denzel is one of that rare actors who DEMANDS your attention while on screen. His charisma is AMAZING. That's why I am such a big fan of his. That whipping scene in Glory spoke volumes without uttering a single word. Some say he is overrated. Excuse me. He is one of the greatest ever. He is right up there with Marlon Brando. And I can't believe he is 60. Go, Denzel!! I am watching your "The Equalizer" on DVD as I write this. We love ya!

I agree! I love John Q, He did an absolutely amazing job in that movie, as well as man on fire. If i see hes in a movie i usually watch it without hesitation because he is such a great actor and i have never been dissapointed in any of his roles

Equalizer was awesome and yes John Q was one of my favorites, he should have gotten a lot more recognition for that one. I actually preferred it to Training Day which I think was an iffy call.

Queen A Recommendation- he action of recommending something or someone. As if i recommend you to listen to this CD because this person is a great artist. Also to answer your question, why would Denzel need a Oscar to be considered a great actor??? Leonardo has just won an Award for the movie "Revenant". That does not make him an elite actor, anyone who followed his career knows that Dicaprio has played many roles and was phenomenal in all his movies. Its just like winning prom king or queen. Ok you got a trophy but where are these people now. They're many NBA players who have not won a ring but are still hall of famers. Yes!!! People may criticize them for not winning a championship but that doesn't take away from how they preformed on the court. The reason i say this is because that there is other things that people care about in life like family, being a great father/mother. Denzel has already stated that he doesn't kiss ass in Hollywood or go to industry parties and that his family is his biggest asset. So please do not think he is losing any sleep over an award.

The guy is just incredible, an almost guarantee for great acting. Next in line is Fences... from what I hear, it's one of his best performances!

Denzel Washington is an actor's actor and a class act. He is definitely a top 10 greatest actor of all time and is one of my top three favorite actors of all time. He should have won an Oscar for Malcolm X he was phenomenal in that role! It's his best performance in my opinion.

I love the book of eli because the character loves God and puts all of his faith and trust into Him and even when he is slayed, still trusts him but the best part is when he said he learned that " you must love others greater than yourself and I forgot that" it reminded me of such a killer he became In God's name.

"Glory" is my favorite. Especially the scene where he's maintaining his dignity while being scourged and being revealed his suffering when that single tear left his eye. THAT is acting.

Glory, its all about Glory... that scene when Denzel gets whipped (and the music perfectly coincides with his tear) is just perfect! Even Colonel Shaw was shocked, and immediately regretted his decision.

I like how Denzel can portray action heros, crime thrillers and historical dramas perfectly (Malcolm X, Frank Lucas, Remember the Titans, Steve Biko, Trip).

Denzel in The Hurricane is my favorite! My favorite scene is when he wouldn't take his suit off. He went into the hole and has a battle conversation with himself. That is the best acting I have ever seen in my life.

Cuando vi la actuacion de Denzel en "Glory" simplemente puedes entender todo el sufrimiento y el resentimiento de una raza golpeada desde su nacimiento, sus ganas de luchar y la redención alcanzada en el campo de batalla, simplemente magistral. Pareciera que el papel del soldado fue escrito especialmente para él y se roba la película entre tantos actores igual de talentosos en el mismo film.

+T L Muhammad - The Oscars is a Privileged White Boys Club. They prefer "the White Savior" movies. Plus it is a Spike Lee movie. Spike's _Do The Right Thing_ didn't win, and it was the best movie that year. The PWB Club will never give Spike Lee the awards he deserves.
