It's so refreshing to see a book's movie adaptation focus on the story for once without adding needless action scenes to drive up viewercount. Part 1 was phenomenal and I'm super excited for Part 2.

Honorable mention: Paul looks like the teenager the book described.

The most interesting difference to me is that the 2021 version begins to explore the Jihad that Paul is unleashing - and that it is a bad thing. The 1984 version saw the story as a traditional hero myth - he "brings peace" after winning. That is a very superficial reading of the novel which is partly about the exploitation of vulnerable populations with religious mythology as well as the juggernaut of history starting from actions that Paul is more than conflicted about. The later novels show the corrupting nature of all this and the billions dead in the Atreides name. Paul's armies end up far worse than the Harkonnens.

When I was a kid, I didn't understand why this was my father's favorite movie. As a teenager though I really began to love the 1984 version. I hated to read but as I had always heard the book is always better than the movie. So, I read it and indeed as he said it was better. The problem with the 1984 version is that it lacked continuity with the novel. Weirding weapons, etc. I still love the 1984 version but after watching Dune 2021 for now 4 times, this is the Dune movie that I will now cling to as it is a much better adaptation to the book. The only thing I giggle at is not being able to disconnect Oscar Isaac from star wars' poe dameron.

What an incredible film. You can tell Denis made this film out of love and admiration for the book.

Honorable mention: folding space, the strange and wonderful “traveling without moving” scenes in the 1984 version.

Loved both version. Owned every format of Lynch's version since 1984. People forget, at the time CGI was in it's infancy. What Lynch did at that time and bringing the story to life was ground breaking. Sure. Looking back on it now looks totally cheesy compared with Villeneuve's brilliant adaptation, but still should not take away from what Lynch accomplished for the time. Enjoy both, for what they are. Neither should be bashed as better than the other. Just enjoy.

Denis is one of the few directors that still gives me hope for the future of cinema.

FUN FACT: Throughout the novel, only three minor characters ever refer to Arrakis as Dune aloud, Piter De Vries, Stilgar, and Tuek the smuggler. Paul only ever thinks the name, and Irulan only writes it. No one besides these five ever refers to Arrakis as Dune at all.

The new Dune is everything i wanted Dune to be...The characters are perfect, they fit like a glove. The story is well done, has the important moments and quotes from the book. Paul is finally fitting his age! Everything makes sense, everything has returned to it's place. I am at peace.

I don’t think the Dune tv series gets as much love as it deserves, it was a really good telling of the story

Timothée Chalamet is really a fantastic actor, and can pull off the part of a teenager in appearance and behavior, unlike Kyle MacLachlan who despite being the same age at the time as Chalamet looked clearly like a full grown adult and behaved corny and nothing like a normal teenager.

Loved Denis Villeneuve’s Dune- modern sci-fi masterpiece 10/10. But I also think Lynch’s Dune is overly maligned. Clunky dialogue, yes, but amazing costuming, music & world building. Check out the “Spice Runner”

Dune 2021 has to be like what Lord of the Rings was for fans in the early 2000s. Both are well-beloved books with strong cult followings who never had successful adaptations that got off the ground with decades between attempts. It wasn't until a good producer, writer, director, a willing studio, and film technology catching up that something of quality was made.

I like how it doesn't matter that dune is perfectly cast it only matters what skin tones they have. I don't care about skin tones I just want good compelling characters played by actors who can portray that level of complexity, just like every actor in the movie. And each actor deserves to be given more credit than "look non whites!"
