Also, when changing your brakes you don’t just slap pads on and tighten things down. You have to lift the front wheel off the ground, spin the wheel, hit the brakes, and tighten things down while the brakes are engaged to make sure they are centered on the rotors.

Informative and entertaining! However, folks should know that brake fluid replacement/bleeding is a little different if your bike has ABS. My BMW requires the ABS pump to be exercised to flush the pump and remove all air. I use an electronic gizmo connected to my laptop to do this. If this isn't done, you will have a mushy lever.

I was taught over 40 years ago that when you change brake pads you should always apply a thin layer of copper grease on the BACK of the pad, where it contacts the caliper and piston(s) to avoid brake squeal. Is this no longer a thing?
@thagingerninjer5391
@thagingerninjer5391 Жыл бұрын
It isn’t a thing now. I use brake lube only to lubricator the caliper pins, to make sure they’re moving freely. Grease anywhere else will melt at the temps brakes hit, and get on the rotor and pad, causing hot spots and premature failure.

"Avoid jump-starting your bike from a car battery" is not sound advice (unless your bike uses 6V batteries). 12V is 12V, and it does not matter where it comes from: a bike, a car, a truck, or a semi.

Does it really matter what brand of products we use? My ktm specifies motorex oil, chain lube, and basically motorex everything. The issue is, it’s hard to get unless you order it online. I’m the type who likes to go to the auto parts store to get my fluids. If it’s cool to use what I prefer rather than what the manual states, what are the communities favorites? 2022 KTM RC 390 in case that matters to anyone. Thanks

Learned the hard way. Hadn't changed a battery in a while. Ordered one online. It was a pain to swap out the old one with the new one because my bike, a Bonnie, makes you take out half of your electrical stuff to get to the battery. I turn the key with new battery installed..... nothing. I'm thinking @#$_!!**!...oh, what's this other box which came with my new battery?? Acid?!

Stopped the video right at #1. If your motorcycle oil is multi-weight, you change it at appropriate intervals, and the the first number is 10 or 20, you DO NOT need to warm the bike up to change the oil. It's a Canard. With multi-weight oil, the 1st number is the ambient temp, weight of the oil. Multi weight oil gets THICKER as it gets hot. FACT. That's how it works. The day before you change your oil, drive the bike (not idle), up to FULL operating temp then park it where you'll change the oil the next day. All the oil that's ever going to drain down will be down the next morning (more than you could get out of it hot unless you let it drain until an hour after it's cold), and will it will drain out easily and completely. And your shit won't be hot. 10&20W oil is very thin. The "drain your oil hot theory" developed in the olden days (pre multi-weight oil), when oil drained from engines regularly came out of crankcase like roof patch. 10W-40 oil is 10W at ambient temperatures, as operating temps goes up, it thickens by a thermal/chemical action that links molecules together. With modern multi-weight oils on regularly maintained engines it is not needed to drain it hot, it's actually counter productive for drain out purpose. Work smarter not hotter.

Yeah, it's a pretty common thing to do. Yammie should have recommended that people get a torque wrench. I'm sure that with experience you could do it without a torque wrench, but this video is for beginners. I've changed my oil many times, and I wouldn't trust myself to get it right without one.
