I remember the first time I saw Formula Offroad, I think it was a VHS with clips from EuroSport, probably from the early 90s, I remember Gisli`s Chocolate Milk sponsor.

Having watched and enjoyed this for a short period on eurosport in germany during the 90s I still remembered the name of Gisli G. Jonsson being nearly unbeatable during this time.

My introduction to the sport was in 1999, when Channel 4 showed all eight rounds every weekend.

He is a true legend of Formula Offroad! Unfortunately we don't have a lot of footage from the Norwegian championship so we can't make a similar video about that :(

I hope Gisli G. is doing okay these days since that bad hit in 2018 injured his spine, I still despise whatever nutjobs decided it would be a good idea to put that jump obstacle on the time attack that event.

This must be the only form of Motorsport where Independent Suspension becomes detrimental to performance.

Maybe not it would probably work well if given time to develope. Haraldur Pétursson had to cancel this project because of his sponsors. There is offroad truck being built with independent rear suspension that we will hopefully see this year. There are already rock bouncers with full independent suspension.

5:02 This suggest that independent suspension isn't good for Formula Offroad. But is that really true? I think it isn't used for other reasons (harder to repair, more expensive etc).

A reinforced solid axle will ALWAYS be stronger than a central diff and long wishbones

Well there is this buggy "Sleggjan" a new build with independent suspension for the rear wheels. It's quite amazing how well it works. But like Halli Pé showed us it's not the first thing you would like for your front wheels. Geir Evert, the driver had a grate summer with that car

We brought the sport to Sweden in 1994 (i think maybe 92), then to Norway in 96 I think, but some Norwegians and Swedes had competed in one or two races in Iceland as early as 91....lastly both the Swedes and Norwegians helped us bringing the sport to Finland in either 97 or 98, we tried in Denmark but it never really took foothold there, though there are a few Danes that compete in the Norwegian championship

How the hell did anyone find a hill in Denmark to try this crazy sport there🤣 I guess they went out to dig a large hole
