I love the story of Monaco 84 if it went to full distance. Apparently at the red flag prost was already losing his brakes (hence waving to get the race stopped for his benefit) Senna was found to have a slow puncture and likely would've had to retire if not crashed out Bellof would've taken the win on track but Tyrell were thrown out of the championship for being underweight. Another Monaco race no-one wanted to win lol

@@TheYoshi463 im pretty sure schumi would've gotten outshone if senna didn't die in 94
@TheYoshi463
@TheYoshi463 3 жыл бұрын
@@xavier4519 No, all objective statistical extrapolations are pointing to the fact that Schumacher was better than Senna, already in 1993. In 1994 at Imola, Senna was under immense pressure being down 20 points in the championship. Even if you claim, he might have been faster at peak speed (which he was not, but nevermind) Senna was just way too inconsistent if he wanted to beat Schumacher who almost never made mistakes. It showed when Senna made a huge blunder in Brasil 1994 - Schumacher was already getting into Senna's head.
@wingracer1614
@wingracer1614 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheYoshi463 That may be true (not saying it is, just saying it may be) but discounts the fact that Senna was still light years better than Damon Hill who very nearly won the title in 94 and 95 and did win it in 96. If Senna doesn't have that crash, IMO he wins four straight titles 94-97. Who knows what Schumacher's career would have become.
@TheYoshi463
@TheYoshi463 3 жыл бұрын
@@wingracer1614 You're ignoring the fact that the FIA gave Schumacher multiple race bans to keep the fight close in 94. And please explain to me how the title fight was in any way close in 95? Schumacher won by 33 points in a worse car and it could have been even more if Hill didn't take out Schumacher twice. Yes, Hill did win in 96 but Schumacher was driving a Ferrari that was multiple seconds slower on most tracks.

Whenever F1 talk about the 1984 Monaco GP, they always imply that the victory was “robbed” from Senna by Prost. This is the first time I’ve heard about the driver in third who could have snatched the victory, interesting.
@davidkoczo2166
@davidkoczo2166 3 жыл бұрын
It's because Bellof was later disqualified. Well, actually Tyrrell was DSQ'd from the whole season because of their irregular car. So, while Senna could've kept a victory from Monaco, it's not true for Bellof. Interestingly, Bellof's teammate that year was Brundle, also in the video.

People I think should be on this list: Lella Lombardi - As a woman she was never really given a chance in F1, but showed herself to have impressive driving abilities Nico Hulkenburg - We all know the story, no need to repeat Roberto Moreno - He always drove truly terrible backmarkers, but somehow managed to drag them onto the grid, including managing to qualify the awful Andrea Moda at Monaco Luca Badoer - His image was stained by his 2009 Ferrari appearance, in which Lewis commented he was impressed by Badoer's performance, and the media tore the Italian to shreds, so Ferrari replaced him with Giancarlo Fisichella, who did no better

Great list and I agree with all these drivers deserving a victory at some point throughout their career despite it never came to pass. Also interesting is a look at a similar statistics showing the amount of race distance led by drivers who never managed to actually win a race. Not including still active drivers the Top 10 looks as follows: 10) Jackie Oliver - 164.7 km led 9) Bruno Giacomelli - 168.5 km led 8) Karl Kling - 172.4 km led 7) Andrea de Cesaris - 174.1 km led 6) Ivan Capelli - 177.4 km led 5) Nico Hülkenberg - 194.4 km led 4) Romain Grosjean - 219.4 km led 3) Jean Behra - 438.7 km led 2) Jean-Pierre Jarier - 452.8 km led 1) Chris Amon - 851.5 km led (!!!) Honorable mentions are still active drivers Lando Norris (181.2 km) and George Russell (209.0 km) who both would be in the Top 10 if being included. However, I think it is very likely that both of them will eventually gain their first F1 victory. :) EDIT: Also I did not include Indy 500 drivers between 1950 and 1960, just for the record. :P
