I'm surprised that banana didn't make the cut but carrot did. For my worms it would be in the top 5 for sure. Nice video.
My worms are not into avocado like other worms are. They'll eat it but I've yet to get an "avocondo" out of one yet. Lol. My worms LOOOOVE squash! #1 squash and a close #2 is pumpkin. 😊

My worms get quite a bit of banana peels, which they seem to like. I also feed them small amounts of sourdough discard when I get too much

I can see why you like fluffing your bin - lots of healthy worms! Did you mention banana in your list? My worms get a lot of banana peels and the occasional rotten banana. The other thing mine really went for was cornhusks from tamale. That was a fiesta! ~ Sandra
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
Yes, Sandra. I'm not sure if I said bananas or not. I kind of got lost in the food items, but... Yes. Anytime you eat tamales, it's a fiesta whether you're eating it or the worms. I haven't fed no tamales to my worms yet, but I might have to try it.
also zucchini I cut them into pieces and scatter the seeds over the entire surface, the seedlings sprout and they are nutritious for the worms. Dandelions will appear soon, and the worms love them too. I also lay down sand, it is also useful, and I collect soil from the forest - it contains many micro organisms. I grind egg shells on a grinder - the worms' favorite dish. I cut cardboard into not very small pieces, worms lay eggs in them - an ideal place for a new happy generation. 🇨🇦🇺🇦✌️🪖

I juice once a week and the love the pulp that comes out! and they eat it super-fast. Almost just as good and blending your scraps.

Yes! We don’t juice much that way we get to eat more fiber in our human diet. 😂

Thanks for the information 😁 They don’t mind cold weather though. I raise worms outside even in the winter. They are in large bins on soil with no bottom and I cover them with leaves and wood chips.

Thanks for watching. Yes, I'm sure they're fine in the winter, but they're kind of like my pets at this point, and I worry about them being outside, but I know it's probably fine. Thanks for watching.

I work at a restaurant so l have access to leftover oatmeal. I think the worms like it as much as watermelon
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
If you work at a restaurant and you have worms, you must have a pretty crazy amount of worms with all the food scraps.

Raw Potatoes 🥔 always makes a wriggling mass of worms
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
Yes, potatoes are pretty much everyone's favorite food, and the worms also probably enjoy it like we do. Very hearty meal.

I feed my worms the well fermented scraps from my Bokashi system that have been mixed with a carbon source, My worm population exploded doing that.
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I've looked into the Bokashi system, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me other than like it's a pre-compost system, but I've had good results feeding my worms directly instead of pre-composting.

My experience is that these are definitely the most loved foods for worms but they also always cause mites in my worm bin. Especially the avocado. Do you see large mite infestations with those foods and if so, how do you combat?
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
We have went over how we combat mite infestations in an older video called How We Maintain Our Worm Bins. Thank you for watching.

Is it possible to aerate the worm bin via an air pump and bubbler like you see in small fish tanks for a few minutes a day ?
@HarleysWorms2 ай бұрын
It sounds like you want to put your worm tea aerator into the worm bin to aerated it. Probably better than not aerating it at all, but I like the way you think, and it's those kind of thoughts that make the world a better place, and always trying to innovate and make things better, because that's how everybody gets better, and the world becomes a better place. I still do it by hand for the exercise also to see what’s going on down low in the bin thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you have a great worm day!😎

Can you use perlite mix with peat moss for bedding
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure the perlite would do much in the bedding mix.
@eatttherich46533 ай бұрын
Microbes would like it@@HarleysWorms
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
Perlite doesn't contain any nutrients for the soil, so I don't think it would do much, but you probably could put it in there as long as it's not the kind that has other fertilizers in it, like at some of the big-box stores, their perlite isn't just perlite if you read the fine print.
@eatttherich46533 ай бұрын
Many microbes love living on perlite. Not for nutrition, just a nice homebase. Not to mention it helps aerate bedding. Making for happier worms @HarleysWorms

Sir, the plastic is not too hot for them?
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
It's not that the plastic was too hot for the worms. It's just that we're moving away from plastics in general in the worm bins and the garden.

Where would mango and manure rate ?
@HarleysWorms3 ай бұрын
Yes, mangoes would probably be way up there on the list, but we usually eat the mangoes and they don't make it to the worm bin, and I am guilty of buying them pre-sliced, but I'm gonna try to get them whole, that way we can give the shells to the worms. Good point. Thanks for sharing. Manures will be covered in a future video.
