It’s really sad that so many inventions/discoveries made by women either needed a man to get it patented, were stolen or were completely overshadowed.😞 Hedy Lamar, Rosalind Franklin, Lise Meitner, Mary Jackson, and so many other women are truly amazing and have shaped this world.😊❤️

I remember in one of my Communication Engineering Textbook Hedy Lammar was discussed. But the sad thing is she was described as "while she got recognition, she just stood and smiled around while others developed". I felt so much anger towards the author for writing it down. This is how women's contribution gets regarded. No one even gives her credit for even envisioning the flight shape which helped Howard Hughes to design his ✈️

I learned about all of these women in public school. I was in public school from kindergarten-part of third grade. And I was homeschooled for 10 years. Ms Mojo left out that Mae Jemison ended up getting 2 degrees when she graduated from Stanford. A Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in African and African American studies. And after she got her M.D, she worked with the CDC researching vaccines.

Should have included Mileva Maric, Serbian Physicist and Mathematician and Albert Einstein’s first wife. Although just how prominent a role she played in Albert Einstein’s early work is not heavily documented and still debated, it’s highly likely that she played a major role in the development of the Theory of Relativity, so much so that Einstein gave her all of the monetary proceeds of his Nobel Prize for Physics (although some might argue that this was more of a divorce settlement). Unfortunately, once she had children he no longer treated her as his intellectual partner, but instead just a wife and mother, and this soured their once passionate relationship considerably.

There’s Irene Harris. She was the first female theatrical manager and producer in the United States. There’s also Molly Brown who advocated for the rights and education for women and the lower class and ran for senate at one point. Both were Titanic survivors.

@@CNadz12 I say the same if the demographic is male. Also, regardless of ethnicity, nationality, religion etc.
@davidz3879
@davidz3879 2 жыл бұрын
@Cyberwiccan I'm not talking about inventions or being the first in the world to do something. I'm talking about being merely the first of their demographic to do so. To use #1 as an example, many people of other demographics had earned chemistry PhDs. Why is it trailblazing that she was the first of her demographic to do so? Using intersections as narrow as that means that thousands of people are trailblazers. The first LGBT Turkish American to gain a physics PhD. The first Mexican-American amputee to gain a biology PhD.
@xanbell7723
@xanbell7723 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidz3879 Admittedly some of the intersections are unnecessary and missing the point, however it's clear that women (and minorities) have had a harder time contributing because they weren't considered people until quite recently. As the video notes, it was common for contributions to be ignored or taken by people "allowed" to make them. The belief that women weren't capable was then reinforced by people writing them out of history, it's a vicious cycle. I think you can start to see how it becomes its own kind of accomplishment, to achieve greatness with these kinds of obstacles.
