I've used some of the apps. After watching this, I feel like I barely dipped my toe into what's available. Thank you for this video. I'll get a lot more to watch. I cut the cord over 5 years ago. I only missed a few shows I was hooked on, but quickly found things to replace it. Add the antenna, we have, content and a tivo and it's more than I could watch.

Tubi channel is great if you hate commercials, and it does have a lot of shows and movies that others don't. There is also a classic category, which I love because I'm a big fan of old films. As for commercials, there is usually one at the start of the feature then 1-2 once or twice throughout. They are very short. Less than 30 sec. Roku channel, filmrise seem to pepper 5 in a row several times through a movie. It gets annoying. Don't be afraid, jump in there! I cut the cable 8-10 years ago and never looked back! @@oztrich24

This is very helpful and informative video. I was vaguely aware of most of these apps, but I didn't understand what they were or how they worked. You have educated me. I'm particularly interested in giving Plex a try. Thank you. But I have one complaint. Please stop saying, at the beginning of EVERY segment, that you're not going to spend a lot of time on it. It's unnecessary, and the repetition becomes irritating. Just spend the amount of time you want to spend on each topic. Don't worry about whether a few viewers might get impatient. They can use the fast forward button if they need to.

Great list of apps 🙂. Choosing which Roku player to get is just as tricky imo. I ended up with the 4k Roku Ultra. It has a USB 3.0 port on the back, which allows me to play local media on my USB C monitor from my flash drive, and it's the only one that has a case for it to. So I can literally just stick it to the back of my portable monitor, and carry it with me wherever I go. It's basically like having a TV you can throw in a bookbag and take with you where you go lol.

I have two previous Roku models, I would upgrade to this if I need a replacement down the line. The only thing I would benefit from at this point is "A rechargeable remote" and "Remote locate" Private listening I don't need. My conventional battery remote eats new batteries every two weeks, consequently I recommend using rechargeable batteries if you don't need the ULTRA.

I spent the pandemic year ripping my extensive DVD collection to disk; I now have about 7 TB of movies and TV shows available - and I haven't fired up my DVD player in almost three years. If you do this - by default you get a yellow 'folder' icon for directories and a blue 'file' icon for the video (titles are shown for both). If there is an image (jpg, gif, or png) called 'folder' in the directory, it displays in place of the yellow 'folder' icon. Images with the same name as the video will display in place of the blue 'file' icon. For example, goldfinger.png will display as the icon for goldfinger.mp4.

I now cast more and more due to Roku app force feeding way to many commericials. Even this podcast required me to watch several commericals before I could view it but on my notebook via youtube I was not forced to watch any commercials first. I don't know if KZfaq required Roku to broadcast more commercials or if it's just Roku being way to greedy but whatever the case find I myself using KZfaq on Roku less and less.. Makes me wonder just how much Roku is overly force feeding commercials in other apps they host..

I never knew any of this. I don't watch tv & haven't since 2002. The loud commercials drive me crazy. There are more commercials than tv. They should find out how many people get up & do other things during the commercial. No one is watching them, that's for sure! Thanks for the info! Be kind to one another. Stay safe. Love to all

The new roku have a breaker button in the back. It pops out often and needs to get reset. I use the tip of a pen to reset it. It shouldn't pop at all.

I bought a lower end Roku years ago and I wonder if I should replace it with a newer one.

Awesome video thanks for sharing. I just purchased my first smart tv. It's a Roku tv. How do I get prime-time movies from ABC & NBC for free? Also, how do I download these apps to my TV? I can not find Amazon Prime either. How do I find Amazon Prime? Thumbs up to your videos. Thank you.
