I love genesis, I grew up with my dad playing the albums in the car, so cool to see someone from my generation revisit this bands material and make a video out of it. They are timeless, still great today.

Selling England... is a true masterpiece, mainly due to Tony Banks and Steve Hackett's work (apart from the other guys contribution of course). Have been listening to these songs since 1975, and I'm still astonished by the cleverness and the beauty. Great video for great music. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for this Antoine. If I'm not mistaken, The Cinema Show intro is the work of Rutherford, not Hackett. Like more than half of Genesis guitar parts at the time. Like Hackett once said, Mike could give any 12 strings players a run for their money. J'espère que le spectacle de Hackett à Québec en mars ne sera pas annulé!

Very nice video! The intro of cinema show was solely written and played by Mike Rutherford - he loved using alternative tunings back then. There are a bunch of good tutorials that show the proper tuning and how to play the intro on YT. Still loved your version!

This is a great job in combining a presentation / explanation / interpretation and a lesson. It is revealing to carefully listen to detailed excerpts that otherwise (on the record, with all the arrangement and pace) may escape your attention for years. By _underrated_ - music YT's most frequent comment, people usually mean not enough people actually listening to and appreciating somebody's music. With Genesis, there's a different peculiar trouble: many of those who call themselves fans break their output in two parts (sometimes three) and only choose one, rejecting the other. The key thing is to learn to enjoy the evolution of their music rather than wish to keep it firmly closed within a timeframe labelled '73 or '74 and refuse to develop.

Hey Antoine! Thank you for covering my favorite guitarist, Steve Hackett! I'm going to re-watch this video several times. Are you familiar with Hackett's solo albums? You may want to have a look at Voyage of the Acolyte (1975), especially the last song Shadow of the Hierophant which is so atmospheric. His 1979 album Spectral Morning is a bit more ethereal and should please - I think - to most ambient music fans.

I have to admit, I don't know much of Genesis' music after the mid 70's. All my favorite albums are with Gabriel and Hackett (Selling England being my absolute favorite, that's why I did this one). Maybe someday I will dig deeper in their discography, but there is so much music to listen to! It's hard to get to know all these bands, as a young man who has not lived through these eras :-)

Excellent dissection, your passion for the music is evident! I should mention that on More Fool Me, while the album version is somewhere between Eb and E, the live versions are definitely in E. I wonder if this is because they recorded it too fast on SEBTP, and so vari-sped it down.

Thanks! I think it was common at that time to be ''in the cracks'' between tunings. You can hear that on many other albums in the 70's.
