Ten guitars is not enough. I recently had it explained to me that the perfect amount of guitars can be represented by the simple equation of n+1 where (n) represents the amount of guitars you currently own. So following that accurate equation if someone owns 10 guitars their perfect amount of guitars is 11 and it then follows that if they own 11 guitars their perfect amount is 12 etc.

To me, it's more like a Fibonacci sequence . I'm at 8 if I don't count the lap steel as a guitar. I guess 13 is next, I hope. :) Amps are more like n+1.

PlayerX lol yeah interesting concept, but I don't know how buying 5 guitars at once will work out. I'm at 13 if I don't count a bangitar so I need to get to 21 and buy 8?

how many guitars do you need to own? chappers: 10 guitars. All different! Brian May: 1 guitar. Yngwie malmsteen: 100 guitars. All identical cream vintage scalloped stratocasters.

@Mirage2000H

I would just put covers on the pickups. Some say they change tone of the pickups a little bit, but I believe that's a much more elegant solution than wrapping layers upon layers of tape on the pickups. Any slight resulting change in tone could be corrected by EQ.

And you're a little bit judgemental. Who cares if someone does or doesn't. Plus it's actually psychologically documented that humans often name things that we care about, it gives us a sense of ownership, control and comfort with the object. Plus some people simply enjoy it. Also, you're logic is self destructive, I mean why name anything? Why not call the dog "dog", why not call the baby "baby". The reason we name people is the same reason we name objects, identification! If I ask my partner to pass me my Ibanez s420 or Esp Ltd F-250 she would just look at me confused. If I asked her to pass me Morgana or Lucy though, she knows exactly which one I'm asking for.

I thought the same but the other day I recorded an ep with a 2010 Fender Blacktop Jag which is the only guitar I thought I needed but then, I played '98 Gibson Les Paul Classic and my God did GAS hit hard. Some guitars make you approach writing differently or you want to mix up your tunings. Single coils vs humbuckers or purely, because you just want to have the guitar. Lots of reasons why people have loads of guitars but play one genre.
@Whitey_01
@Whitey_01 8 жыл бұрын
Stay Tuned I respect this but I don't know if I completely agree with you. I think that a guitar should bring with her the historical relevance she has. I mean, I would never play blues on a Ltd Hammett model,not because the guitar can't, just because she can't inspires me to play that. I don't know, probably is something related to a cultural vision of the music in general, but I will feel a little bit uncomfortable to play a genre like jazz on a guitar that is a shred machine. Anyway, music is so expressive and subjective, and it's fine. Ps I don't know if you understood anything, English isn't my first language and I wrote down a couple of raws quickly

RicardoDiazHimself you're right probably, but is something out of me. I just cannot feel the will of playing a genre on a guitar that is completely out of that. I love vintage guitars. You know, 60s and 70s vintage strat. I cannot play metal on that, i can't, I'm not inspired. I won't judge who can, absolutely fine with it.

I really love that Rob focuses on the flaws even his favorite guitars have! I have 6 guitars and a few I've always felt sad aren't perfect (specially some of the more expensive ones), but I honestly feel a lot better about that now, kinda seeing that the flaws still make them that much more special

My Top 3: 3. Squier Stratocaster (Dubbed "Rebecca", it may be my first electric, but has pretty poor sustain now) 2. Spectrum Acoustic (First guitar I ever owned) 1. Epiphone Les Paul (Dubbed "Jessie", this has an amazingly gritty tone, just how I like it) These are the only 3 I own right know

Interesting watching this, I enjoyed it so much I decided to review my top 10 guitars I'm fortunate enough to own here goes... 10.Hamer Artist Ser No. 856169. Beautiful hand build quality, sounds every bit as good as an exceptional Les Paul. 9. Eric Clapton Custom Shop Stratocaster in Mercedes Blue made by John English, Ser No. CN98532 All John English built guitars are brilliant and the mid range boost on this works a treat 8. PRS Hollow Body 2 '10' Top. Low weight, easy to play with very versatile tones using the 3 pickup system. It really can sound like an acoustic and the build quality is fantastic. 7. Custom Shop '50's Telecaster Ser No. R3727 by John English and made from 'more than 100 year old pine' for the 2004 Namm Show. Very different tone with the pine body and great vintage feel and sound 6. 1965 Stratocaster. All original pre-CBS Ser No. L96958. Beaten up and an absolute delightful action and vintage sound 5. 2003 Gibson '59 Les Paul 'Stinger'from Music Machine. Ser No. 9 3658 MM 59 29. A real classic in every sense. Sounds big and feels expensive! 4. Custom Shop '51Telecaster John English built 'Nocaster' Ser No. R4385. A dream sound from a beautifully simple guitar. There's something really cool about the black pickguard and the Fender decal on the headstock, what a presence 3. 2000 Gibson SG Custom 'Les Paul' Ser No. 001892. I've never enjoyed playing SG's until I met this absolute beauty. Massive sound and plays like butter. I can see why so many heavy rock artists used them, they are killer when set up correctly 2. 2014 Pensa Custom MK2. 'F' Hole and quilt top. Lovely to play and special for me because I met Rudy Pensa at his store in New York and fell in love with his business. I own three Pensa's, but this is the fist custom built guitar made entirely to my personal specifications, so very special 1. PRS Periscope 2 as seen on KZfaq with Paul R Smith selecting the woods by vote on the internet and then producing an amazing single piece flame top guitar. The new PRS 85/15 pickups sound amazing and the fabulous build quality all private stock guitars enjoy make this monster ooze quality. I have four Private Stock Guitars. All are wonderful, but this is particularly special. Check out the video to see it from start to build finish. If you ever get to read this Rob, I am now interested in adding a 2017 Chapman guitar to my collection. After reading what I like from the above, which one should I buy??

Honestly I'd be surprised if there wasn't one (disclaimer: I've already watched the vid). If he couldn't make one of his own custom designed guitars good enough to be in a top 10 then it would be a pretty bad indictment of both the company's quality and his own design talent. Of course he could just be lying and put some Chapmans in there for advertising purposes only, but from what I heard they held up well enough.

I only own one guitar at the moment, the other ones were sold to pay for lawyers (bunch of ball washing bastards) and that happens to be a Chapman ML3 (blue with maple neck) and I have modded the shit out of it. It now has a Sustainiac with a Hot Rails powering it. Scalloped neck, locking tuners and a momentary kill switch. It is a full on Death Machine now.

You need a nice Gibson, a nice Fender, a nice acoustic, and then something a little different like a semi-hollow Rickenbacker. Four guitars, that's all you ever need. 😜
@s0ulcinder

heard of Ibanez? Schecter? Yamaha? PRS? Jackson? Everyone plays differently, so some people won't want to play electric, or some won't play acoustic. Some people won't get the same feeling when they play one guitar, and get another. You don't NEED 4 guitars. All you need is one to learn, but to enjoy and master you can have as many as you want. :D

Afford a decent roadie..?? It doesn´t work like that... Are you even in the music bussiness, dude..?? xDxD Ive seen the techs from Motorhead and Sodom doing this kind of stuff in festivals, and with some guitars that are actually pretty old... And guess what, they´re fine xDxD If you could see some of the hits my SG has taken, you would cry... But I still use it live, with no problems. The finish of a guitar is going to go, if you do gigs, it doesn´t really matter how you treat them... Because of the transport, the swet, the use...

Matt Pazio No I don't see the appeal of any type of metal. It all sounds sort of childish and corny to me and the guitar styles and tones are terrible in my opinion. Don't even get me started on the atrocity that is shredding; aka the holocaust of the guitar.
