I beat rogue squadron 2 when I was 8. I take out the ol gamecube and put it in a couple of months ago...I can hardly make it past 1 level haha

I was amazed by how deep the lore went in F-Zero GX. I spent a lot of time reading all the bios in the instructions and the game. It really sets up an expansive universe with galactic police, space cops, bounty hunters, sorcerers, universal mobs, evil robots, and solar system spanning corporations. I've always wondered if the Galactic Federation mentioned within the game is the same one in Metroid, making both series part of the same world.

Viewtiful joe was my favorite game back then. It was challenging at times and when you fight a boss they had epic fights and the music went good with it.

Before we even get started, F-Zero GX is definitely the hardest.

I remember first playing GX. One of the most memorable games I've ever played but certain maps would kill you if you made just one mistake. One mistake and it's all over. I'll never forget it and I can't wait for the next F-zero installment.

Anyone else with me when I say that Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 needs a remake? That game was amazing. We need a hd version on current gen consoles and pc.

Mega Man Network Transmission was my SHIT. I absolutely LOVE everything about that game (yes even the ridiculous difficulty). Graphics, music, bosses, level design, the fact that the levels are interconnected like Metroid, EVERYTHING. Akira did a bang up job with it, it's one of my favorite Mega Man games ever. OH! and you want to talk about hard? Just TRY to beat Bass in this game (he's a secret boss). HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT. is that dude damn near impossible.

As someone who's 100 percented F-Zero GX...thank you for putting that at number 1. Even if you learn some of the advanced techniques that are never mentioned in the manual (and are, in fact, just physics quirks) the computer can still find a way to cheat you out of what should be a surefire victory. Think the Mario Kart series is bad? Yeah right. I've seen the computer pull off stunts in F-Zero GX in real time which require tool assistance for a human player. Honestly, though, the game does need a lot more exposure. Actually, scratch that, the whole *series* needs more exposure. Even to this day, I still think it's a challenge that's unmatched by any other game in the racing genre, and finishing it pretty much puts you into an elite class of gamers in my book. So, with all that said, anyone having trouble with GX? I can offer some pretty good tips.

Super Mario Sunshine... I'm not even kidding. I was only nine years old when I played it, but I just remember getting stuck and frustrated and giving up pretty much every time.

Honestly Luigi's Mansion was hard for me back then. Mostly because of my crippling fear of the dark. That part where you get to the roof and the lights go off terrified me and every time I tried to play it and I ended up having to turn it off and not play it for weeks before I finally beat it. So glad I'm not THAT much of a pussy anymore hah..

Yeah! F-Zero GX deserves it place in number one, not only is it tough but it also super fast, I use to be a huge videogame racing fan but after GX... boy, that game made other racing games look slow, seriously it's like if you were watching the grass grow.

F-Zero GX is by far the most "fuck you for being a fan of the series" game on the GameCube. I just had to laugh at how hard the game was IMMEDIATELY.

Oh man, I loved F-Zero! I got pretty good at it too. I managed to unlock every character and their respective little background story video (most of them were really funny). I'm not sure, but I think you had to do the story mode with each character on the hardest difficulty to unlock the video.

I LOVED Viewtiful Joe!!! Never completed it because there was a point in the game where you had to face off against every single boss; one after another without any health replenishing. Was so fun!

When I was 8, I beat F-Zero GX's Story mode in a month Now a days, I can go back to it after 8 years and beat it in a day. A month on Very Hard mode though. Super Monkey Ball 2 is still one of my fav game though.

Hardest Gamecube game is Def Jam Fight for NY when you play against me. I'm a fucking OG at that game.

Fzero gx was awesome except for the soundtrack i wish they kept the classic soundtrack from X. Nintendo better be making a new one for the NX its my all time favourite racer.

You ain't lying about F-Zero GX, that game is a nightmare to play. I still really liked it, but the challenges and harder leveled world cups are so insanely brutal that its not fair at all. I've tried so many times playing the same damn challenge over and over again just to unlock new racer parts and even an additional character, BUT ITS DAMN IMPOSSIBLE! I couldn't even beat the game's story because the last challenge is so damn hard with no walls whatsoever and still require lots of speed! Every single damn challenge require a continuous high speed, all boosts and health roads touched and never missed and absolute PERFECT steering and drifting to complete the challenges that will drive you insane. I unlocked only three additional characters and that's it. Seriously, whoever unlocked all the characters, racer parts, complete all challenges and their difficulties and clear the grand prix in all levels in F-Zero GX is a person with legendary gaming skills that not even the gaming tournament can handle such skills.

I beat metroid prime 2 back in the day it wasn't that bad then and I was a kid too. I lack the patience to do it now though. The other games I played here on this list agree with especially F zero GX. I cheated to beat it at a certain point out of frustration with action replay but I still loved it. There are certain stages in the story mode at high levels of difficulty that the game actually has infinite energy or more energy to boost with than you for real. You still have to beat the stage knowing that. I learned that from people that did it before in actual recorded interviews before.

I wouldn't really say Viewtiful Joe is HARD per se (at least on the normal difficulty. Ultra-V is an entirely different manner.) If you're going for those Rainbow-V rankings though, it's a fucking nightmare.

I've still got over half of the games on your list including Ikaruga....& I'm very proud of that fact.

Although the bosses themselves in Viewtiful Joe are irritatingly difficult to beat, especially Fire Leo, I'd say the game otherwise is really not that hard.

Still can't belive I beat F-Zero GX on hard as a child/teenager and master difficulty with all the characters to unlock all the wierd cinematics. I still remember being 0.0030 seconds late when saving Judy, doors slammed in on the Blue Falcon and blew me up, but still saved Judy ... or what was left of her. XD

I just watched this video for the first time and it's 2 years old Ik but I'll admit I'm really happy that F-Zero GX made it to #1 alongside X being #4 on the hardest N64 games and Cosmo Terminal Trident being #1 on the hardest video game race tracks. I'm saying this because I basically 100% both F-Zero X and GX without Action Replays and basically played every game in the series except for Climax, AX, and other Japan exclusive games. Also at the end you have to be absolute ass at the game to finish last place on Mute City Twist Road like come on lol

What if I told you Super Monkey Ball 2 was the first video game I ever beat?

F-Zero Gx deserves that number one spot! My 8-9 year old self (around 2003) was excited to see another iteration of the game, but oh boy was I in a ride. It's a fun game indeed, but you have to be very, very good in races (past Expert and above), and practically flawless in story mode (Hard and Very Hard especially, and even 1 or 2 normal mode missions), Story mode: Has its ups and downs, like easy tracks on the first cup (ruby), moderate tracks on the second (sapphire), and 1 or 2 hard tracks on the third (emerald), like Green Plant: Intersection, where going too fast going from the road to inbound pipe = slipping off course. Beat all of the courses on at least expert or standard = Diamond Cup, and oh boy is this a doozie. Cosmo Terminal: Trident looks good on paper (straight lines), but a good 80% of the map has no guardrails, and slipping off can be easy, Sand Ocean: Lateral Shifts = Shift Left/Right in time, and also some parts with no guard rails, and Phantom Road = an endurance.

Two Best Friends Play recently did a playthrough of Resident Evil Zero where Pat had to backtrack all the way back to the training facility (at that point repopulated with Eliminators) just because he didn't fill Rebecca's mixing kit with green liquid from a green easy-to-miss canister in one superfluous room at a point in the game when you couldn't even possibly know you'd need it later. Most of the "challenge" in Resident Evil Zero comes from broken mechanics and puzzles built around the partner zapping system leading to certain areas and events where you can accidentally trap your defenseless or under-armed partner in an area with instant-kill enemies.

Hardest games for me to 100% complete on the gamecube without walkthroughs were LoZ - Twilight Princess (because it's a really long game to begin with) and Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. I still have mine :)

Glad TS2 at least got an honorable mention, even though the hard mode in that game makes it beat that megaman game any day.

Gawd, Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins were absolutely amazing. The voice acting wasn't great, but the story, gameplay, music, and scenery were spectacular. I HIGHLY recommend grabbing them up and trying them out!! Finally one of them got recognized by these guys!!

Spynx and the Cursed Mummy and Viewtiful Joe were quite a challenge when I was a child. I replated Viewtiful Joe 2 last year after 10 years and it was still a challenge.

The top two I knew was going to be a two horse race between F-Zero GX and Ikaruga, however I personally would've swapped the two. Ikaruga gets insane at the second level and the level of precision, concentration and reflexes the game requires is just ludicrous. Not that I'm letting F-Zero GX off the hook, as that was also very difficult, but it felt more fair and more within my grasp. Beating story mode on Very Hard was no doubt one of my proudest gaming accomplishments.

F Zero kicked my ass. I remember playing that game for hours some weekends and it pissing me off. I got to the last level of the story mode and never beat it.

Back when video games were video games and respected the gamer...i miss those days. The 6th gen of consoles was easily the best.

Just completed Timesplitters 2 with a mate couple of days ago. The 2nd to last level is gonna kick your nuts in. It took us 6-7 hours for that level alone.

I remember hating Rouge Squadron so much as a kid. Probably because I was like 9 or so. But I could never beat the first level with the Death Star, or even the tutorial in Tatooine. So much rage!
