This list gives my opinions on the top 10 historical tv shows on netflix that you need to watch right now. All of these historical tv shows, historical tv series and netflix original shows are of the highest calibre and really do a great job of bringing ancient history, medieval history and modern history to our tv screens. Alot of these historical shows are medieval shows as well as war tv shows and they would greatly appeal to any fan of historical movies or medieval movies. So if you are looking for the best shows to watch on netflix especially in the historical genre then this list will appeal to you. If you have a netflix subscription be sure to check out this list !

The Last Kingdom is magnificent. I’m a big Cornell fan and have read everything he has written. The Saxon Tales are my favorite.

The Last Kingdom was just so great. Not too many shows I went back and watched the entire series three times. Season 3 with Skade was unbeatable. Great story, great way to add to an already great show.

Yes I agree, season 3 was my favourite as well. The second half of season 4 was pretty weak but overall the last kingdom was a great show from beginning to end

Eh ... I've watched most of those and stopped after a while when the Bull Shit got to much for me to take. What they are doing here - is taking a real Historical situation and using it to put a bunch of modern morality, relationship based horse shit up for the viewers that like that shit. So - they are modern stories foisted upon Historical situations. It's like they are Historical Soap Operas. There's a lot of stuff in the plots that is clearly there to appeal to women. One thing I would absolutely not do - is think that watching these shows is actually teaching you anything about History - except maybe on the most superficial level. If these shows peak your curiosity about a period - read a book on the era and then maybe you'll know something about it. .
