Korbin's list: What Americans would like Rick's list: What Americans need to watch

yea exactly. Korbin picked more americanised indian movies. but thats not the point is it?

Not necessarily. Masaan is definitely in the category of need to watch as against would like. They might not even understand some of the cultural nuances and conflict going on in the film w.r.t caste, but it might just catch their intrigue to educate themselves and read up on the issue. In any case, I'm tilting towards Korbin's list because most of his choices are better films as compared to Rick's, except for Haider & GOW. P.S. I was surprised Korbin didn't pick Talvar given his rationale behind the choices he made.

No shade intended but Americans tend to have a lot of stereotypes about many things in life. Even in the 21st century. I work with a number of American teachers and I am constantly surprised about their lack of worldly knowledge. This is an observation and not a direct criticism. But after a while it can become weary. Hindi cinema has its roots in theatre with such a long and historical legacy and doesn't need really need America to sit up and take notice. No negativity intended in my comments.

I wish Rick and Korbin put up a small thumbnail of the movie poster on their screen with it's name everytime they discussed a film on the list. Some are regional and even us slightly ignorant north Indians might not know but would love to watch. That's all. Still watching the video, have reached number 8. Will update the section.

So guys, good list both of you. I'd request you to kindly see the following films though: Black (2005) Taare Zameen Par (2007) A Wednesday (2008) Mulk (2018) Thappad (2020) I'm assuming that you've not seen any of these movies and have seen the following already: Dil Chahta Hai (2001) Lakshya (2004) Rang De Basanti (2006) Sarkar (2008) Dangal (2016) Hope you feel enriched after these recommendations. Sorry if don't though. Wish you the absolute best, guys. Great work.

Sir please watch two films: 1)Khakee(starring Amitabh Bacchan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Aishwarya Raj). Yes, it is a masala cop film, but, it is so superbly written and the atmosphere is so tense(especially the superb middle portions) and it does not leave characterization at the expense of a huge "star" cast. Infact writers Rajkumar Santoshi and Shridhar Raghavan do a terrific job in the developement of the characters along with the progression of the plot, so in that case, it does not have to waste time on a set-up and we get to know about the characters as the film progresses. It is also an important cop film which also takes a sharp look at the corrupt system and also the role of media(There are some Amitabh Bacchan speeches that will bring Goosebumps) please do watch it(one of the best performances of Akshay too) 2)Parinda: Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, this is a very very very good Gangster film which also has a heartwarming tale of brotherhood(between Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff), a terrific villain turn by Nana Patekar(one of his first films), some terrific cinematography, a very good music, and some great use of slow-mo in action and chase sequences. Do watch it. It was also India's official submission for the Oscars.

I feel like we're taking 3 Idiots for granted. It was your first indian movie. And last time I checked, it worked out pretty great. And it's a first Indian movie for many other similar reaction channels. It introduced Indian cinema to many Chinese people and because of it, Aamir Khan has a much bigger market share than SRK over their. And It's been remade in Mexico. Sure, there are at least 10 movies you guys would recommend before you would recommend 3 Idiots, but 3 idiots has been proven to be a good introduction to Indian cinema. And also, kids would like it too. Most of your movies are high-art critical darlings. They are not going to appeal to someone who has watched every Transformers movie willingly. Not everyone is an actor from California.
