As teenager i played as goalie with Leon at Kölner Haie for many years. Love how i can still recognize his shoot and play patterns. :D We all knew he is gonna be big one day.

@@ThaQrime I like watching German players because of their 'mechanical movement'.. doesn't always translate to scoring in plays but it's strong 💪 and funny-looking 🤣 (sorry yes cringe stat +15%)

Gosh im old ^^ i watched Leons father Peter Draisaitl play in the first and second german league 1998-2000 and now his son is one of the best players in the NHL :D

I agree with people saying he’s the Malkin of the Oilers. There are times he’s simply the best player of the night if not the whole NHL, but he’s overshadowed by the actual best player in the world. The guy will always be underrated.

Fun Fact: Nr. 7 and Nr. 1 was in the night before Jochen Hecht's farewell game in Germany. And more important, it was the night before the Olympic semi-final 2018, when Germany beat Canada to reach the Gold medal game. What a day for german hockey.

Clear cut 2nd best player in the NHL, his resume is insane- 4 100 point seasons, 3 50 goal seasons, Hart/Lindsay/Art Ross trophies, 3rd highest playoff PPG of all time behind only Gretzky and Lemieux. Other feathers in his cap- 1) Only player other than Gretzky to be top 4 in goals and points in 5 straight seasons. 2) Highest scoring playoff round PPG ever (in 2022 2nd round vs Flames). 3) He leads NHL in goals over the past half decade, despite being a playmaker (he was voted best passer in the NHL by his peers the last 3 years in a row). 4) He has 2nd highest scoring season of the 21st century with 128 points (he has the goals/ games played tiebreaker over Kucherov)

@@DD-rk6kn McDavid is going to be the 4th player in history to get 100 assists. Only the big 3- Gretzky, Orr, and Lemieux have done so. Kuch and Mack are having beastly years, but McDavid is still the best player in the game.

I am not the greatest hockey expert but just watching him skating on the ice displays pure quality. He seems to have a solution for every situation on the ice and still got great vision for his teammates playing pinpoint passes like it is nothing.

@@dnl4ever666 Oilers was the best team Colorado faced in the west looking at analytics and underlying numbers. They played well but Colorado was just the best cap era team we have ever seen. Not much you can do against that. I bet you're team made it to the WCF

As someone growing up cheering for the '80s oilers I think I would choose McDavid and Draisaitl over Gretzky and Messier.

Leon's the clear cut 2nd best player in the league. His impressive goal scoring, more impressive playmaking, that backhand pass, forehand, style of play, hockey I.Q., one-timer, man down situations, size, strength. LEGIT AF! McDavid; 1 A+ Draisaitl; 1 A (IMO, of course)

how is he close to the "clear cut 2nd best player in the league"? he is beyond trash defensively, and not fantastic at scoring when it comes to even strength or 5v5. for context this season: Draisaitl: 15.8 C/60 in all situations 3.3 C/60 at EV (-12.5 C/60 differential from all situations to EV) 1.3 C/60 at 5V5 (-2.0 C/60 differential from EV to 5v5) 99.9 C/60 at PP (+84.19 C/60 differential from all situations to PP) Matthews: 33.3 C/60 in all situations 21 C/60 at EV (-12.3 C/60 differential from all situations to EV) 21.5 C/60 at 5V5 (+0.5 C/60 differential from EV to 5v5) 99.5 C/60 at PP (+66.2 C/60 differential from EV to 5v5) McDavid: 30.6 C/60 in all situations 16.7 C/60 at EV (-13.9 C/60 differential from all situations to EV) 17.0 C/60 at 5V5 (+0.3 C/60 differential from EV to 5v5) 102.5 C/60 at PP (+71.9 C/60 differential from EV to 5v5) the differential from All Situations to EV will be a wider gap for McDavid and Matthews primarily because they have such a high C/60 to began with.

I'm pretty sure I stated IMO, my point about his all round game and one BIG difference that separates Draisaitl from McDavid/Mathews is they don't kill penalties, or play in as many man down situations. It's not something that stats will tell you how important Draisaitl's presence and skill truly are. His playoff numbers destroy Matthews so far, so you can't say Matthews is as clutch as Draisaitl.

@@bbutters2 thats because a) McDavid is viewed as more important for him not be injured than Draisaitl, same with Matthews. b) thats because Draisaitl is better on draws than McDavid. it literally has nothing to do with the defensive ability of Draisaitl

@@LETZGONHLdraft It's important because no other 50 goal, 100+ point player in the league kills penalties and plays in more man down situations. Imagine Drai didn't kill penalties, his numbers could be even more ridiculous. Drai is just a better, stronger more committed player than Matthews is thus far. Matthews is awesome too, just not there with Drai. IMO.

Holloway mcloud, bourgault as a 3rd line possibly would be sick and Bouchard has been great and with a good offseason will improve his defensive game

his highlights only lack defending and goaltending - pretty everything else is covered: size, strength, reach, balance, shooting, passing, skating, puck handling… complete attacker
