@@Senny_V aaaand all of that is pure speculation, saying a driver magically became that much better after a year of al loss, OR that Rosberg is just far better than Bottas, which is really the more likely one with the facts present. This is coming from someone who thinks Hamilton is undoubtedly one of the best drivers of all time by the way, my esteem of him has nothing to do with this analysis.

Nonsense he was never in that position, they were both top tier, number 1 drivers. there was only once in Monaco 2014 I believe where he was holding up a much faster Lewis in the wet and asked to move over. He held station in Malaysia 2013. Ross maybe feeling he had enough chances to pass Lewis and failed each time. Bottas, contrary to popular opinion always puts himself in this predicament because of his race craft. Remember him holding back against a crippled Seb in Spain I think.. he just doesn`t have the speed, hence he falls away in the championship and enters the `help your teammate zone`. Which is not the same as when Ferrari told Leclerc to hold station in Australia of all places. Charles answered this nonsense with his driving.. Something Bottas has never done. Remember 2017 or 2018 Hungary? Bottas moved over, Hamilton failed to catch the Ferraris then he moved over for Bottas. Why because it was still early in the season. Peace

Those last 4 races in 2016 especially the last one shaved a good few years of Rosberg's life. Every competitive champion in F1 would have done what Hamilton did and backed Rosberg up in the last race. The constructor's championship was already won, only the driver's championship was to be decided. Rosberg won the psycological battle against Hamilton that year. Rosberg made the right move to retire on a high as he achieved his dream.

Aditya G i know what you mean im a bottas fan but in this race this was the only chance for lewis to get the championship and it was a team vs team fight not a nico vs seb/max fight so its clear that hes slowing down... and its also pretty common and okay to let a mate pass if hes faster (like alonso with massa or hamilton bottas often) its just not fair to do it like schuhmacher (if you need to let him past before the finish line) and its also pretty common to split the strategy (its maybe not fair for both but its the best for the team) its just really unfair if you do it like ferrari with kimi or if hamilton says he want to box they pit bottas because of that and then you stay out and push for an overcut

if I remember correctly I saw Nico in a talkshow on german tv after his wdc win were he spoke a bit about why he retired. I didn't tune in in time and its a while ago but if remember correctly he said something along the likes of really having the dream of becoming a world champion but knowing that he wouldn't become the best of all time, outscoring Schumacher and so on and that he was under immense pressure even before the start of the season and suffered from that but just wanted to win a championship or something like that. Some people say that he ultimately surrendered to the pressure and I can see where this view comes from but in my opinion that makes his achievements by no means smaller but maybe even greater. He knew his biggest problems/"fears" and he faced them and not only overcame his opponents but himself to achieve his biggest goal. After he won the Championship he already was a Formula One World Champion, it doesn't get any better for almost all racing drivers or athletes in general then ultimately becoming the worlds best in their sport. So he retired with the biggest achievement he could imagine. That sounds more theatrical than i imagined but sums up what I personally think about it. He knew he couldn't become the best of all times (more than 7 WDC's) so he retired being the best of the season, far more than most drivers ever come close to. I was not even a Nico fan in that year but I highly respect the decision to leave on a high than to drag himself along for a few years, achieving maybe one, maybe none other title in god knows how many seasons instead he now is with his family and can go to races when he wants to, not when he has to

Is it, really? During these last laps when Lewis was slowing Nico down into Vetel and Verstappen, he must have realized that Mercedes can't (or won't) control Lewis, and that he'd always get priority. It was an easy decision for him at that point, and I fully understand him. It was also an unbearable situation: had they continued next year and Lewis won (which was much more likely, considering the treatment he was getting from the team), Nico would have to stay and listen to b.s. like how he wasn't actually as good as Lewis. By deciding to retire then and there, he'd be forced to listen what a coward he is and how he should defend. There really wasn't a good solution to this. But I am ultimately glad for Nico and how things turned out. He did leave a mark in F1 and I wish him to have a great life together with his family.
@sujaysannyamath6554 жыл бұрын
It's pretty clear that Lewis had more natural talent and was overall a superior driver when he really tried. But in 2016 Nico clearly had better preparation and that year hard work and dedication triumphed over natural genius. Lewis, undoubtedly would lkhave come out hard against Nico the next year and Merc couldn't really do much about it. So, after achieving his lifelong dream, he decided to retire on a high than take the immense pressure of defending the title against a raging Hamilton and ending it in disappointment.
@pavarottiaardvark34314 жыл бұрын
Two missing moments: Canada 2014: both Mercs had failing power units and hot brakes. While Hamilton retired, Nico nursed his car to the end. Abu Dhabi 2014: Nico wanting to take his failing car to the end, finishing, and then immediately going and congratulating Lewis.

@@hyperslow3810 that's why nicos job was harder. Lewis had the luck nobody expected him to become a great driver while Nico had to struggle with the expectations in the shadow of his father. Stop say that he won only because of Hamilton's dnf. They had the same chance to broke engine and the previous years Rosberg had more issue than Hamilton but nobody say that hé didn't deserve is 2014 and 2015 title...

@@ksfreestylers1146 Rosberg had his share of poor luck in previous seasons, he had better luck in 2016 and that doesn't take anything away from his achievement. He's the only driver to beat Hamilton in the same car. Brilliant driver.
@ksfreestylers11464 жыл бұрын
Lumikami like what? In 2014 Hamilton was again unluckier than Rosberg but still won it. In 2015 Rosberg had more reliability problems but he was nowhere near Hamilton, in fact Lewis won it with 4 races to go that year, he dominated Nico performance wise. And then in 2016 Hamilton had problems in like 7 weekends( spa, russia, china, monaco, malaysia, baku, bahrain) whilst Nico had absolutely NONE.

Being a loyal childhood fan of Kimi, I didn't really care about the Merc battles but to revisit the 2016 season and the tension in every race, my respect for Nico, the driver and the person, has peaked. Truly special driver!
