The only reason the North Pole episode drew so much criticism was because people didn't want to have the Christmas spirit ruined by the truth of the retail industry. I can understand that, but I also feel like it's an important message that should be spread so more people are aware of what retail workers have to go through to meet demand for the holidays of big retail markets. The home invasion part was crazy though lol

I consider it a great christmas special to watch each year, because it DOES have a great message. Maybe some shocking stuff but doesnt all family guy episodes. The fact we are literally killing Santa Claus because we are too greedy is actually very thought provoking. More so than other episodes.

@@woofawoof7616 I would say it is a grey area. A lot of times yes (especially when eastern countries try to represent Jews, I saw some EVIL animes) but this is family guy, none are spared and shows like this are more of an exception. If a show (cartoon or otherwise) doesn't aim to make fun of any group and they added a Jewish person then it is done poorly. Once again family guy spares no one so they have extra wiggle room and we get it as do I believe many groups understand about this show.

@@alyssastern6073 I should probably have specified. I don't find THIS particular episode to be an issue, but I think Seth MacFarlane does get away with perpetuating stereotypes more than he would with other groups. Seasons 19 and currently 20, are lacking. You can tell that post June 2020, they were forced to tone down everything, to the point that it's just boring. Quagmire is.... clean, and gets little screen time. Cleveland has few clever lines anymore, and also, gets little time. It's weird.

I know I’ll probably get flamed for this, but I actually liked the episode where Quagmire was trying to help his sister. I'm transgender and I thought that _Quagmire's Dad_ was pretty well written. It was a little too real though in my opinion. The way everyone reacted to Ida is a harsh reality to how a lot of people treat us and react to us. We're not monsters. We're not diseased. We're not freaks. Oh Brenda Q. The thing that I find most disturbing in that episode is that Brenda never actually changes. Jeff only stops because the guys kill him, NOT because she finally left or stood up to him or realized she deserved better. And yes, battered woman syndrome, I can't imagine what it's like to go through that, but this is a cartoon, and the real hero is Lois, because she's the only one who really tried to help Brenda help herself, which would make Brenda a stronger person and hopefully not find herself another Jeff. Instead, Glenn runs him over, Joe writes that terrible fake letter, and we leave Brenda thinking it's all her fault. Again.

Most of these episodes on the list are in the top 100 all time FG episodes. The fact that they didn't "play it safe" is what seperates these from the casual episodes. When You WIsh Upon A Weinstein, Brian And Stewie, Quagmire's Dad, The Endearment episode, The Christmas episode, and the episode where Quagmire saves his sister were edgy, but the true sentiment of what they wanted to portray was pure.

I am sorry, the comments about the transgender episode are a joke. I am not going to get into the right or wrong of it all. You can argue a lot of the episode is offensive. I can see that, I don’t agree generally, but I can completely see where people might. That being said, to say Brian throwing up when he found out he slept with him is completely a joke. Basically what you are saying is we not only need agree with every aspect of that life or else you are a bad person or a bigot is already too far, but to say that he absolutely must be fine with sleeping with her, and by the way it was unknowingly, is ridiculous. This is not meant to be conversation about trans rights, but that comment is a joke. You can have a discussion about rights but to say they not only must he be okay with sleeping with him, how dare he be grossed out? Are you kidding me? A guy can react this way after sleeping with someone who isn’t trans. This is my biggest problem with these movements. It isn’t about rights or legal acceptance. You must accept my way, every inch of it, and every single thing I ask for no matter what or else you are a bigot. I am sick of this attitude.

This is something that makes the actions of the Griffins far more palatable: they are all horrible people. With episode of Quagmire's Dad, Ida is respectful and is never offended by how the Griffin's treatment of her. Ida herself is treated in a very good light. It's sort of Seth MacFarlane's subtle way of berating those he hates while ironically these people cheer on the characters and possibly identify with, only strengthening the comparison.

Difficult pill to swallow, people are losing grit and want to be victims for the sake of social status. I agree with your pics, and all emotions are valid, this just showcases small samples of America's increasingly brittle spirit. Be safe y'all.

Honestly, the episode introducing Ida WAS done well. It perfectly depicted how trans people are regularly treated AND it depicted the struggle of coming to terms with a family member transitioning and it being STRESSFUL but you also want to support them and want to give other people crap for thinking it's a joke or something to rag on. As a trans person myself and someone who has seen several people deal with transitions of family members, I think Family Guy handled it shockingly well. Sure, it was crude, but it's family guy. I don't go to family guy for sensitivity and carefully covered topics. Sure, I do think some they REALLY Don't handle well, but there is a difference between sending the exact opposite message when they're trying to send a good one [The Brenda Q story for example] and "Family Guying up a topic". The right people learn the right stuff at the end, and that's what's important. And no, I don't consider The Griffin Family "the right people" because they're REALLY not. And Ida continues to be an amazing character. Honestly, I'd have been more upset if the TERRIBLE characters in the show didn't mock or say horrible stuff. Because they're BAD PEOPLE. So to see bad people be cool with something like that DEFINITELY sends the wrong message. So for them to act LIKE BAD PEOPLE is expected.

I think people who complain that the show is being offensive or “crossing the line” are kinda overreacting. I’m gonna get a lot of hate for this comment but if you know the jokes in Family Guy are offensive to you, why would you watch the show. If you watch Family Guy, you should be ready for them to go there with dark jokes and you should know that they don’t hold back. Don’t like it?Maybe watch something else then. Don’t keep watching and then start complaining about the dark humor, sorry but by watching Family Guy your pretty much asking for it.

It really depends what you are trying to take from this episodes, if you see them from an entretainment and dark humor light then they are enjoyable, but if you take the topics seriously and look for a great depiction of what is happening then you are going to get dissapointed and even angry.

I suspect that most critics do not understand the genius of Family Guy's humor. Which is that it opens the typically closed mind of men, which then paves the way our learning tolerance for, and gaining a perspective on, the views and concerns of others. Which is otherwise extremely difficult, if not impossible, to accomplish.

The only reason people don't like these episodes isn't because it's controversial it's because it shows what the world is really like it shows us this happens in real life everyday on a daily basis but what do they do they think people can't handle it when people honestly need to grow up it's important to learn about these issues.
