Meryl made a number of small changes because she wanted people to see Miranda, not as a heartless shrew, but someone who had worked very hard to get to where she was and deserved respect. The scene where she was talking to Andy in her hotel room in Paris where she had no makeup or fancy clothes. She wanted the scene of the editors meeting where Andy was not present. And she is also the one who had them keep the Blue Sweater speech in the movie. The woman knows her stuff :) I think my favorite line in the whole movie though belongs to Nigel...."yes because that is what this multi BILLION dollar industry is all about....inner beauty"

Apparently Meryl Streep found playing the role of Miranda Priestly exhausting. She stated that Miranda was a perfectionistic task-master--nothing was ever good enough for her, so she constantly saw flaws in everything around her. This included people, furniture, clothes, interior decoration, etc. Streep said that this perfectionistic attitude she needed to dig up from her soul to play Miranda put her on edge all the time, and in a foul mood. Streep clearly did a fantastic job. But it also pointed out how miserable Miranda was on the inside.

I think her whole explanation for how she averted the takeover at the end should've been part of this list. Cause that right there is the perfect epitome of how damn good at her job she actually is. Nothing happens to the magazine without her knowledge, and the second she got wind that someone was trying to squeeze her out, she spent what had to amount to possibly the entire year, meeting with designers, photographers, editors, writers, models, all of whom Miranda brought to the magazine and made thrive under her wing, and told the magazine owner flat out, "If I leave, every single one of these people will follow." To me that was like the most badass part of the whole movie.

Real top-quality bosses are like machines, they have it all in their head and never come unprepared to a meeting. Meryl makes it look "wow", but i've seen people do that in real life, the only difference is that Miranda feels it's her duty to destroy the soul of every person she talks to :D

Miranda ate Andy for breakfast in that Cerulean blue speech, the movie could have ended right there and receive an standing ovation. It would have been great to include the scene where Andrea finds Miranda crying in her hotel room in Paris, that scene is iconic because it was shot in ONE take! and Meryl delivered masterfully.

Miranda was a beastly person. It's one thing to have high standards, it's another to communicate those standards and resultant expectations with disrespect and dismissiveness. By all means, have high standards, but also have some humility in dealing with others.

I could see her on a train, but putting her on a bus is worse than not getting her a flight. And a taxi is not gonna drive more than an hour away. All public transportation is usually on lockdown during a hurricane.

This movie is a good example of life, and working in the corporate world! It’s dog eat dog, meeting unbelievable expectations, & your looks matter! Miranda’s character is very fluid, in my opinion. The power hungry boss filled with hubris fits in any career field! This character just did it poshed our in Prada! ❤️ This movie! Funny thing is, people like think everyone wants to be them? Good manners and humility never go out of style! If there is one thing people love more than putting you on a pedestal, it’s knocking them off it!

The most “epic” moment of all is something that is not mentioned. I have watched this movies countless times and if we dive deep into the character of Miranda Priestly and Andy, it’s very telling what this movies message was at the end= FREEDOM. Miranda hires Andy because she saw something different from the status quo and with all the “yes men” running around. This is real life, no person has the balls to go against their higher up because “livelihood” and “money” right? Miranda knew this and as mentioned saw much of herself in Andy but wanted to see what lengths Andy would go to get something that she wanted. Remember that letter at the end in favour of Andy getting her dream job, Miranda done this because once again Andy was doing what she always wanted and again wasn’t stopping for anything, which is something till date Miranda envied in Andy. I really enjoy watching this movie for its deeper meaning, I keep the epic moments just for laughs 🤣🤣🤣

The fantastic thing about how Miranda's character is written, and even further how Meryl portrays her, is her identity as a character varies depending on who you ask. To the average person, i.e. people like Andy who have nothing to do with fashion or other arts industries, Miranda is cold and cutthroat and nothing more. For people who are in similar industries, we all know a person like this, and though it's debatable whether that kind of behavior is necessary, we respect it at the very least. We understand it. You really don't understand how cutthroat some industries are unless you're in them. That if you want to be successful, there's so much you have to sacrifice. For Miranda one of those things is kindness. And it works for her. Ethics aside, Miranda is undeniably successful at what she does.

Miranda’s past is told in the book... Her real name isn’t Miranda Priestly, is Miriam Princhek. She was the tenth daughter of an orthodox jewish family from the countryside in England. Her mom died giving birth to her, so she was raised by her father and grandmother. All of her brothers were handymen. She dropped out of High School when she was 17 to work as an assistant for a rising designer in London. During this time she took french classes at night. That’s also when she changed her name to Miranda Priestly. She then got a job in Paris as a junior-editor at Chic Magazine, and after that at Parisian Runway. During this time in France she worked hard to get rid of her accent (which she did). After 10 years in Paris, she was transferred to American Runway. When Andy comes in to work for Miranda, it’s her 6th year at American Runway!
