A tip for soft reseting for shinies: if you think you might not be able to catch it, practice while you reset! If you can't get it when it's normal, you won't get it when it shines.

I guess I should be thankful that I didn't lose my shiny abra... or any of my shiny abras... because I have FIVE that I found while looking for shiny female meowstic in the friend safari. And I wasn't even using a pokemon with shadow tag because I was using one with cute charm instead (and yes I know I could have fainted that pokemon, then had a shadow tag one after but I didn't really care that much because Meowstic couldn't teleport anyways). Bless quick balls, I guess The fact that I found 5 (and also one male shiny meowstic to really rub it in) before finding the female kind of ruins that feeling though ;-; but I did find her eventually! oh and wild I didn't fail my shiny geodude either, even though it was in a horde with a bunch of other idiots who kept using magnitude. it was my first ever shiny too and I would have been devastated if it died lmao

I know I'm 2 years late to this video, but in OR/AS at least, Lugia has very low PPs for its attacks, and I think many failures to catch it are simply due to it escaping capture for too many rounds and Struggling itself to death. I agree that you need to be prepared when shiny hunting but I don't think a PP shortage is ever the first thing people think of when gearing up for a hunt.

I ALSO failed my shiny Giratina in my platinum version. I was 1 week into the hunt, at around the 9000sr or more, probably, and I was watching videos while doing it soo, you can guess what happened... I soft reseted before seeing if it was shiny and all I could see was a bit of the yellowish giratina fading to black. Luckily just a week later and other 9000sr I didn't sr and caught it in a master ball. Edit: weirdly enough, I encountered a shiny geodude in a horde in pokemon x in the victory road and it didn't kill itself and I caught it! My first ever random shiny encounter

This is so late it's embarrassing but oh well. It's alright, I failed a shiny Giratina as well back in 2014 on Alpha Sapphire. Reset over the darn thing before it even landed and only realised until after the screen turned black. It was the most helpless feeling. I did get a remarkable reclaim the next day, though. I'm glad you got the reclaim, as well. :)

Shiny Pooch being wholly unnecessary and just plain messed up is the same reason why shiny Zig is absolutely mandatory and a godsend though. In RS, a shiny Pooch is just the game shoving it in your face that you were a matter of frames off, while in Emerald, it's confirmation that you're definitely getting your starter. Iconic and ironic.

i was playing pokemon black and i didn't know i had to delete my file to start a new game so when i did i couldn't save. i chose oshawatt as my starter and the first pokemon i had to catch on my own was a shiny patrat. i did and when my dsi ran out of battery, it was gone. 2 years later i played pokemon black 2 and chose oshawatt again when i entered a battle i found out it was a shiny. and i still have it to this day. the first freaking time i played it too!

In Gold I ran into a shiny Sentret the second I stepped outta town and was sooo mad that I couldn't do anything to catch it. Luckily, years later I was able to catch it in the same place in SoulSilver being forced to walk to the next town over after beating the E4 since I didn't have a pokemon with fly. It is actually common for a game to crash when finding a shiny, like someone caught a shiny caterpie in pokemon sun and moon but all of a sudden the game just went black and gave up, also finding to shines together in Pokémon diamond/pearl/platinum/black/white can lead the game to crashing for no reason.

I've had that moment where, in one of the Gen 5 games, I found a shiny female Unfezant but was very disappointed to realize that I was out of pokeballs.
