They should've put Appetite close to number one if not number one. It's got three of the biggest songs of the eighties on it and is also the best selling debut album in the history of rock n roll. It also completely changed rock. It kicked out the boring glam and gave the world this power house that knocked you on your ass.

Excellent point! Many people seem to be overlooking that this list contains albums that were important in rock HISTORY; thus, they should have the distinction of breaking new ground--charting completely new musical territory--in addition to being incredibly great albums in their own right. Further, they need not have necessarily been the most popular at the time of their release; widely influential albums often aren't. Therefore, I can't BELIEVE VU & Nico wasn't on there. Or The Stooges for that matter. I'd kick off Radiohead and Pink Floyd and replace them with the ones I noted.

Not entirely true abnout Queen. I can agree on the fact that none of Queen's albums would stand as a cornerstone in rock music as instead do all their hit-singles, but many of their albums have a deep and accomplished meaning as a whole. Just to make a couple of names, Jazz is simply amazing (perhaps their best). Hot space is brilliant with its style unity. And so on...

dość wolny I enjoy both of those, but I think the definitive Pixies album is Doolittle. Thom Yorke has even said that Doolittle is the reason he's making music. I don't think people noticed the uniquity of the pixies until Doolittle. But I LOVE everything they made before recent times. Now they're shit.

In my opinion Doolitle stands till today as the last time a band managed to make something new in rock music and when i say somethin new i dont mean by any means to belittle what has happened in rock since 1989 but lets face it nevermind ok computer kid a the strokes have been nothing but a group of respectable bands trying to revamp this genre .all those album mentioned felt like a standing on the shoulder of giants moments however when you listen to Doolittle it feels like some explorer making his way into an uncharted territory "terra incognita" just sayin

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

putumban96 The Beatles are the most commercially success musical act of all time. The have certified 265 million albums sold with claims as much as 600 million sold. And it isn't the commercial success that make them the most influential. A vast number of Rock and Pop acts cite The Beatles as key influences. Even King Crimson was known to play Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds during rehearsals.

We could all literally argue about the top 10 most influential rock albums until the cows come home but I think that anyone who does not see that Sgt. Pepper is undoubtedly the most influential rock album of all time is crazy. It literally changed music history forever. Out of every influential album there is, that one’s impact is felt to this very day. However, I do agree that not including Velvet Underground & Nico is also insane. Should be at least an honorable mention. I mean, the album artwork is a literal banana and yet it is one of the most recognizable album covers in the world. The influence and impact is massive.

William Magee, depends on what you consider rock music to be. I would agree that Pet Sounds is definitely pop-esque. But for that matter Bob Dylan is more folk than rock and Sabbath is more metal than rock and even The Beatles are more experimental pop than rock, but I don’t think that the impact on the genre of rock, as a whole can be disputed to a great extent here. I don’t particularly even enjoy the Beach Boys, but Pet Sounds was a landmark album in Pop/Rock.

@@walkwthbeer2164 I remember being fascinated with this band-who became a life long obsession to me-when i heard Teen Spirit. It was unlike anything I'd heard before. It wad so loud and raw. I just fell in love. No other band has effected me like that since. I love the Beatles as well but by the time i was 14 or so and really got into them,i already knew the songs-most of them-so it didn't have that incredible I've never heard this type of stuff impact that Nirvana did.

I think the most important albums from Led Zeppelin is their debut one, because it opened new genre - hard rock. The most important album in hard rock history. And the debut album of King Crimson is more important than The Dark Side Of The Moon, since its release progressive rock started. My top10: Sgt Pepper - the greatest album in history, the greatest thing made by the greatest band Led Zeppelin I - mother of hard rock Deep Purple in Rock - genius son of mother hard rock In the court of the Crimson king - father of prog rock Pet Sounds - unique album that made the Beatles to create sgt Pepper Black Sabbath - father of heavy metal Are you experienced - grandfather of hard rock London Calling - the best album from punk rock band Nevermind - Renaissance of true rock Ok Computer - the last great album in rock history

Yeah, that was my point to the guy that said the Pistols suck(s). Whether he thinks they suck or not it was an incredibly important album. The reason why, as a Clash fan, I would actually say that "Never Mind The Bullocks..." is more important than "London Calling." And I think that the eponymous Clash album, the one released in the U.K. not the U.S. version, is actually as important as LC, if not more so. And LC is my personal favorite album. Any further questions Zodiac?
