Jake and Amy are one of the few well done "Will they, won't they?" relationships I've seen on a show. It made sense to blossom into a legit relationship, as Jake really needed to mature to be a boyfriend and once they're together it grows realistically. None of it felt contrived and their actual relationship becomes adorably dorky. And it also avoids over dramatizing everything, but also isn't always perfect either, they handle things like a realisitic couple and to work things out (The moments especially when Jake realizes he needs to make concessions on his ego or lifestyle for Amy are really beautiful or how Amy learnt to love Die Hard for Jake. They seem to want each other to be happy)

I'm mainly referring to the writing. I've always hated the "will they?/won't they?" trope. It's as if writers don't know how to write an interesting relationship. Either the relationship is forced (ie. they're both the leads so they HAVE to get together eventually in spite of lack of chemistry) or they do the hackneyed "on and off again" relationship. It was always frustrating when the teased couple finally gets together only for them to break up because of....reasons. Jake and Amy have character development outside of their relationship so it keeps them both interesting. Not every storyline is about their relationship. It's a part of who they are but it doesn't define them. And I've been married for 10 years. I've already found my relationship like that. ;) We weren't quite that antagonistic towards each other before dating though. ha ha Of course, we didn't work together or compete against each other either.

Kim p that all makes sense and I agree with you I'm not against building up to a relationship like we got with jake and Amy but as a fan you want some time with them together so you can enjoy seeing the relationship. Wow ten years good for you, its good to find the one. I wouldn't say me and my girlfriend were that antagonistic ever and we were definitely cometative, I guess tv probably rachitis up a lot of aspects of even the realistic relationships. However like I said I think they represent a solid ideal to aim for in a partnership.

Peraltiago is definitely one of the most realistic couples on TV, with very minimal relationship drama. The will they won’t they and the love triangle were actually well written, making a contrast between Jake and Teddy. When Jake told Amy he liked her, he said “I know you’re with Teddy, I’m not trying to change that.” showing that he just wants her to know that he’s an option. Meanwhile, when Teddy told Amy he was still in love with her he said “why are you with him” and “don’t marry him” like he just wants to be with Amy, her opinion doesn’t really matter. Also, there’s no episode where one of them thinks the other is cheating, they always trust each other. There are no breakups in their relationship other than that small one where they startled their captain and he died but they got back together a few hours later, so that didn’t count. Jake and Amy love each other and show it, they try to learn about the other’s interests, like Jake read Harry Potter for Amy, and she watched Die Hard for him. They also know what the other thinks, sometimes Amy copies the way Jake talks, it’s all so wholesome and heartwarming. But they’re not afraid to point out their partners flaws and compete. A lot of big moments in their relationship are based on bets, for example Jake proposed during the Halloween heist. So what I tried to say with this whole text is JAKE AND AMY SHOULD’VE BEEN NUMBER ONE

What about Lily and Marshall from How I Met Your Mother? They showed that love was about struggling through life with your best friend, and they were really adorable together, plus they showed what a stable relationship should look like. Did they seriously say Cory and Topanga? BMW is my favorite show but it is well known that they are not a realistic portrayal. The cast themselves and many memes have also agreed that they set relationship standards crazy high for an entire generation that isn't realistic.

i wanna know why Jim and Pam didn't make this list??? the transition from dating to marriage to having kids to how they saw their future differently made them soooo realistic and the show didn't shy away from showing how being with someone changes slowly over time, even though you may love them. they didn't even necessarily have a happy ending when the show ended, how is that unrealistic?

Mars Reyn they’re actually not that perfect, I mean let’s not forget that Lily left Marshall for a while because she wanted to get to know herself better, or that big fight they had in the last season, but they resolved they problems in a mature way and they never became a toxic couple. I accept that they are a little bit unrealistic, but it’s because is a sitcom 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I grew up with "Wonder Years", and remember being disappointed by the revelation that Kevin and Winnie's childhood romance ultimately didn't end up together. Now, I don't mind it that much, as love doesn't always last forever, despite not realising it as kids. It's a refreshing look at first love, and how it has a lasting impact.💗 Cam and Mitchell and Randall and Beth are also brilliant examples of realistic, down to earth portrayals of couples on television in recent years.💖

Agreed! Although it’s sad that they didn’t end up together it made the show more realistic! One of the things I love most about the Wonder Years is that I find it to be quite realistic. It doesn’t sugar coat things! Sure we all wanted Kevin and Winnie to be together but often times that’s just now how life works!

Pairs they missed. Jim and Pam[, Office}Marshall and Lilly[HIMYM], Jamie and Edit/Danny and Linda[Blue bloods], Monica and Chandler[FRIENDS], Haley James and Nathan Scott[OTH]. I think some of the criteria this list is based on is a bit biased against comedies in particular, just because some couples are silly doesn't make them unrealistic...

HOW THE HECK ISN'T JIM AND PAM ON THE LIST?!?!?!?!? You LITERALLY showed a clip of them! One of the biggest reasons why I love The Office so much is the realism and the authenticity and how relatable all the characters are, ESPECIALLY Jim ad Pam and their relationship. The whole being best friends first, the complexities when your catch feelings for a friend, the whole "will they won't they" mentality but not in the usual sitcom/comedy fashion. I think Jim and Pam are one of, if not the most relatable couple at least that I've seen on TV.

I really believe that Claire and Phil are realistic. How they build their relation is mostly what you can see IRL. She got pregnant and he stay with her but we wasn't in love with her, he start to love her because they start to learn each other. Even at the start of the show, you clearly can think that Phil is the one who love the least his partner because he don't hide the fact that he watch other women, even Gloria. The longer the series continues, the more we have the impression that he loves Claire more and more and that he spends less time watching other women. This is particularly the case in an episode where a former classmate tells him he is lucky to have Claire and he finally realizes how lucky he is.

Exactly! Although we would’ve loved for them to end up together it’s more realistic that they went their separate ways! Like you said most people don’t end up with their first loves! I respect a more realistic portrayal of a teen relationship! Tv shows often make teen couples to perfect! Which leads teens to believe that’s how all relationships are and they when they get into a relationship and they aren’t as perfect as Cory and Topanga they are disappointed and confused! We need more show relationships to play out like Kevin and Winnies! Life isn’t perfect!

@@beeteeee I think you mean Ross and Rachel. Than it was toxic af, all the way. Monica and Chandler were good friends, they hooked up, fell in love, showed a fucktone of devotion to each other ever since. And the scene where they can't sleep, he's looking for a pan but she likes them clean so she goes too, he spoils a book for her... it's so raw and realistic.

i know i mean chandler and monica. rachel and ross had a toxic relationship also. the most pure relationship on that show was that of mike and phoebe monica loathed chandler. chandler only gave monica positive attention once she lost weight. monica went looking for joey the night they hooked up. monica told chandler to fix their relationship, without making an effort to fix it herself as well. monica ran to richard as soon as chandler spoke poorly against marriage. relationships are a team effort, monica is a one person team.

@@beeteeee The weak and poor logic in it wouldn't be so silly if you didn't try to say the one and only friend on Friends who is the most engaged to be the Best Friend to all of them and hold the group as glue was a "one person team". Literally the one person who always tried make everyone happy, who was devoted to all of them, who took time and effort always to make the group happy and healthy... the one in that relationship who always looked at it as a team, as working towards something together not just as individuals. If you think a short relationship lacking depth that had way worse times (pointing the Richard things is weak when David was a constant thing between Mike and Phoebe, she even cheated, and Monica not even for a moment did, was just confused when the man of her freakin' life told her there might be none of the future she wants with him ahead and even than she fucking stepped up and proposed instead of the ditsy "well, I'm not sure" that Phoebe did at least twice) is better than the one with a fucktone of devotion, history, pure love, realistic depiction of people and relationships... well than, that's totally not logical, but nothing stops you from thinking that

I know this wasn't a super famous show, but I enjoyed Lovesick's portrayal of the different stages of a relationship. It was so refreshing seeing characters struggle with work, go through financial hardship and come to terms with their feelings. It is an awesome show, 100% recommend it!

Thanks for including the fleeting but incredible romance of Haddie and Alex from "Parenthood," because it is like a gem that hardly anybody knows existed. However, I adored it. In the few episodes in which Michael B. Jordan appeared, his talent was undeniable. It shown through in every scene especially his last one between his character and Haddie's mom played by Monica Potter where the two are so emotionally raw and able to speak volumes through very few words but powerful facial expressions.

Exactly. For starters, it's not very often that you find people who have been dating/in love since they were, like, 4 years old, and the fact that the writers changed their history about 20 times just made it even less believable. The way they turned out was very fairytale like, IMO. As much as I liked them, I personally found Shawn and Angela to be a much more realistic couple. If anyone from BMW was gonna be on here, it should have been them.

David Stephens, it's not unrealistic because they've been together since high school. It's unrealistic because of how they acted in high school. No high school kids act like that. No high school girl worries that her bf will be a bad father because he lets a kid they're babysitting stay up late to watch TV. I mean she was genuinely upset about that. No high school couple celebrates multiple anniversaries of every event, including the first time they go to some stupid restaurant. Fast forward a bit, and I honestly hope no couple gets married without one single thought of where they are going to live when they get back from their honeymoon.

I'm sorry but how are Mitch & Cam on this list? Most of their plots centre around one or both not being able to be honest with the other, even letting the other think they've done something wrong when they haven't. Add in Cam's tendency to overreact to just about everything and you've got a recipe for an unhealthy couple not a realistic one (although unhealthy couples do exist so I guess it counts) so I don't understand how they ended up so high on this list.

I think the title of this video is wrong. Most of these are not even realistic relationships. For example, as a fan of BMW, I really don't like Cory&Topanga pairing and don't think they are realistic at all. Amy&Alan are, however, very realistic and healthy in most ways.

My favourite moment of Peraltiago is arguably a small one but huge for realism. The Vulture blackmails Jake to break up with Amy, it's quite a cliche where they have to act a dick to get dumped but Jake ACTUALLY TELLS HER!! It is next level.
