Maricel Soriano in the 80's? Did she ever get a Box Office Queen title in the 80's? Wala pa nga syang Box Office title ni Urian Best actress. Isang pelikula ni Maricel Soriano na talagang tumabo sa takilya noong 80's ay yung Batang Quiapo with FPJ. If I am not mistaken during that decade, mga pelikula nina Sharon Cuneta, Vilma Santos at Nora Aunor yung kumikita non especially yung kay Sharon kaya nga naging Hall of Famer siya kaagad sa Guillermo Mendoza. Even si Ate Guy nga sinabi nya noong nasa stage siya para tanggapin ang parangal ng movie queen icon chuchu ng FAMAS na dapat kasama si Sharon Cuneta don. Tsaka FAMAS Yong nagbigay noong iconic movie queen chuchu title na yon, asan na ba yung famas ngayon? Nawalan na ng kinang. URIAN ang most credible na award giving body. I agree that Gloria Romero¹ is the no.1 Movie Queen, a top star for so many years, and didn't stop acting until these last few years. I love the fact that Gloria has done big roles even in her senior years, and can also do small roles with flying colors, yet remained to be a big star till now. I must add actresses who has that enduring power of a box office star, acting in the lead roles for 3 to 4 decades in the industry, like Vilma Santos², Lorna Tolentino³ & Maricel Soriano⁴ who started in the business as child stars, Nora Aunor⁵ & Sharon Cuneta⁶ as teenstars. Wow naman nagkaroon na ba sya ng Box Office Queen title? Hinde! Nanalo na ba sya ng Urian? Lalong hinde! May grandslam best actress na ba siya? Lalong wala. Kayong mga faney ni Maricel Soriano ang nagpapabagsak sa kanya. Given na that she is one of the best actresses sa Philippine cinema but it does mean that she is the very best. Ang pag arte or ang pagdeliver ng lines ay hindi laging pasigaw, gigil or nanlilisik ang mata. Yun ang acting style ni Maricel Soriano. Susmaryosep naunahan pa nga sya mag-grandslam best actress ni Elizabeth Oropesa. Yung tunay na magaling umarte ay subdued, subtle at controlled. I always have high respects on the comments of Sir Leo Katigbak. His were intellectual, critical, and very fair. On the other hand, Mr. Butch Francisco’s comments were mostly shallow, sarcastic, and somehow unfair. Reason why a lot of people I know question his credibility as a showbiz presenter and as an Urian panelist.

I agree with Mr. Leo that Gloria Romero is Number one Movie queen, movie queens stop until the notorious rivalry between Nora & Vilma fans or maybe until Sharon Cuneta though Sharon has no stiff rival. Because to be a movie queen in their generation their fans must really be fanatics & will do everything for their movie idol queen which was also very true during the time of Susan Roces & Amalia Fuentes. Hilda Koronel, Maricel Soriano, Snooky, Dina Bonnevie, Alma Moreno, Judy Ann Santos, Bea Alonzo, Kathryn Bernardo & others, maybe they are good actress & bankable stars but their fans were not personally avid to idolise their movie queen that they quarrel & fight to any one that will criticise their movie idol.

Snooky Serna deserves to be included there. Blockbuster ang mga naging movies nya during her prime. Sa kagandahan sya ang naging parang Gloria Romero nung 80's. Until now active at may followers sya sa kanyang come back. Sya ang original fantasy queen sa mga movies na ginawa nya. Compared kay Judy Ann na mostly pang tv lang at sandali lang sumikat

I'm from US, I know what happened then to Nora Aunor here in US, although it's undeniable that when it comes to popularity and awards as an artist, she was not able to sustain her box office records.. Vilma got 9 Nora got 7. Both of them are icons and It's Sharon Cuneta comes close to both of them..

totally agree with the top 1movie queen for both lists hope there were few seemingly useless banters especially from Mr butch francisco. mr leo katigbak's list is more encompassing for he clearly defined what a movie queen is, irregardless of acting awards and honors hope they can make another list for movie queens per era of Philippine cinema or something similar for future lists
