Jimi Hendrix was the biggest loss to the music world IMHO. He could do it all - perform, sing, and play rock guitar like no one else. I love watching him in concert videos - he was an absolute maestro on the guitar.

I saw one of the final performances by The Who's Keith Moon in Texas when I was about 14....Keith fell off of his drum kit and it took them awhile to set him back up.....damn good show

A physician has a license because THE PHYSICIAN'S job is to ensure that the patient is not harmed. It does not matter than MJ asked for propofol, what matters is that Conrad Murray should have known that propofol is NOT to be used as a sleep aid. The man essentially put his license up for sale.

I know it's being said over, and over, almost as a joke, but Layne Staley really should have been on the list. Lane's contribution to music with AIC is legendary, and had a massive effect on many people's lives, including mine. I've read the story of his decline so, so many times, and it leaves me feeling sad everytime, wishing I could go back in time and burst into his flat, and drag him into a locked door rehab. Layne's death must be one of the slowest suicides in history.

Homeless?He had his multimillion house!He died because his life was too much.He did one show probably each 2 days in his last decade, he took painkillers to keep on, became fat because of many factors related to his former wife and his unhealthy life. Drugs, lack of sleep and obesity killed him.

Okay, lets address the whole "who is the better drummer" debate before you idiots turn this comment into an irritating nerd debate. Bonzo was what I call a "power drummer". Neil Peart has the most technical skill of any drummer I have ever seen. Moon the Loon was right about in the middle of the spectrum as far as power and technical skill go. Who you think is better depends on what your preference in drummers is. If you like more technical skill, Neil Peart is your guy. If you like straight ahead power drumming, John Henry Bonham is your guy. If you prefer a more well-rounded skill set, then Keith Moon is the guy for you.

Elvis should never have made this list at all. He did not use drugs for recreation, he was prescribed pain killers and sedatives because he was a born insomiac who had suffered concussions that caused migraines, had glaucoma, had a twisted/mega colon since birth and had full body arthritis later thought to have been bone cancer. Show me the person on this earth who can live with such painfull conditions without medication. That's right, there is no such person.

It's strange how Jimi Hendrix's genius was first recognized by the British. Hendrix was struggling to get noticed in his native America but in England he was going down a storm, British record company's were climbing over each other to swiftly scoop him up.

I think one of four Grunge legends should have made it on the list. Layne Staley of Alice in Chains is a straight up example, overdosing on a killer speedball. So is Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. He may not have made it to national fame but was influential to other Grunge stars and his heroin overdose surely robbed him of that national fame. Cobain and Cornell are indirect examples. While they committed suicide, drug relapses surely played a role in their deaths. May they rest in peace and I'll always be thankful to them for creating a short yet memorable era of rock.

Overrated? Elvis is the most overrated “musical artist” ever. All his hits were written for him, he stole all his dancing from black musicians before him, and even his hair wasn’t real. He was just labelled as the perfect American man, and was boosted to super stardom - but actually he has no real musicianship qualities

Probably because they're valuing the potential that was still available but lost too quickly. MJ already had a stellar career. The last 2 decades of his life were disastrous with drug abuse, child molestation trials, horrible plastic surgeries, screwing Paul McCartney out of the rights to his share of The Beatles publishing rights, and just endless tabloid fodder. In fact, you could probably make the argument MJ would've eventually spent all the goodwill he'd built up for himself and become universally despised had he stayed alive longer than he did.

Dee Dee Ramone should replace Sid Vicious ' spot on the list. Sid Vicious wasn't a musician, he was a mascot. he couldn't even play bass, they unplugged him at concerts. I'm a huge fan of the Ramones and I think Dee Dee should get more than an honorable mention
