I recently heard someone refer to nassarius snails as zombie snails. Since the way they come up from the sand when they smell food is like the way the zombies from plants vs zombies come up from the ground. I thought it was a very fitting nickname.

I needed this video! I have 29g with the tiny hermits, turbo snails, and my skunk shrimp but it always feels like the tank is getting algae build up ESPECIALLY on the substrate. We use black live sand which is more pebble like in size, so it cannot be easily sifted. 😩

Astraea snails do not flip over but in my nano tank 10” tweezers helps. They are one of the few snails that like to eat hair algae. Also, some peppermint shrimp eat corals, snails, and anything else they can grab. Some are ok, but read the reviews. Mine went crazy and was swimming around carrying a snail while ripping it apart. Same day it ate half an acan head. They can also be mistaken for a camel shrimp. Camels are even more agro and need a fish only habitat. Great list over all tho.

Hey Abyan, the first thing that I’d recommend that I think most people don’t consider since it’s not really a part off the tank itself is a good RO/DI system. The way you should think about keeping a reef/saltwater tank is we are keeping water, GOOD water for everything to live in. If you don’t start with a pure/clean source your just setting yourself up for failure and disappointment. With the size system you’re thinking of this will also make it much easier to do water changes. Trust me you don’t want to be lugging around multiple 5gl jugs from the store to do a water change. Plus you don’t know how clean that water really is unless you get a TDS(total dissolved solids) meter. Then if it even reads “1” you’re just wasting time and money. You want and need ZERO, really. Trust me get a good 5,6, or even 7 stage system. Even if you get a smaller RODI system at first you can add to it not needing to replace it with a better one like most of this hobbies equipment. It all starts with the water! Hope this helps.

The only snail that I find useful is a fighting conch! I know Ihear most snails work at night so maybe he is the only one that works during the day but I always see him with his elephant snout eatting constantly! I have a algae problem in one tank and took one out of my 36 gallon because I had 2 in there and no algae so after I put the other one in my 20 gallon its much cleaner! He rarely gets on rocks so I moved a bunch of algae covered zoas down to sand bed and he cleaned them all off in a few days! Alo are red emeralds different then green? I have a red and saw him nibbling on zoas!

@@MadHattersReef You sure you mean the astrea snail? I wish they could because they are a great snail. I have yet to find one that can right itself. Alot of people shy away from them because they can't right themselves. Even liveaquaria warns people that astrea's cant right themselves. But they are a workhorse when they are on the rocks so I guess it's a good tradeoff.

I have asterinas eating my pipe organ corals. I have two separate colonies and both colonies were/are infested. The colonies are healthy so it’s not that they are eating the dead or dying tissue like many people suggest. They go right to the heathy polyps in the middle. They cup over a polyp like the way you’d close your hand over an apple. They also go after my zoanthids the same way. I really think that these little buggers get to much of a free pass and some people are even suggesting you add them to your tank on purpose as clean up crew. Nope, not a good idea at all in my opinion. I do have a harlequin shrimp that is making a dent in the population so that’s good.
