I recently returned from sailing around the Aeolian Islands and I want to share with you my favorite places. Located off of Sicily's northern coast, the Aeolian Islands are a volcanic archipelago with 7 inhabited islands. From the dramatic volcano of Stromboli, to the vibrant island of Panarea, the Aeolian Islands will amaze you with its stunning landscapes.

What a great place to feature. Not many people know about the Aeolian Islands compared to other Mediterranean island groups. I've been only to Lipari. Those huge walls on the promontory above the town were built originally by the Crusaders when they held the islands but the way they look today was when they were reconstructed by Spain in the 1500s. That shot of Stromboli lit up with hot lava at night was fantastic.

@@RyanShirley I like all spots of this amazing islands but the bubbles are unique! I dive also at volcanic underwater spots in Indonesia but so many bubbles i have never seen there! Did you hear some strange noise underwater at this bubble spot?

@@swisssights That was such a fun spot! I would be great to scuba dive there to spend more time exploring. I don't remember much of a noise, i was too in the moment to notice, but maybe there was.

The volcanic basalt stack or plug called Strombolicchio,1.2 kilometers from Lipari is believed to have been the inspiration for Arnold Bochlin's painting "Island of the Dead" which in turn inspired Russian composer Sergei Rachmanninoff to compose his orchestral tone poem of the same name -the composition and some others inspired by the same painting by other composers are available on You Tube.

You should really hike to the Stromboli summit (at night). It is, however, not always possible due to increased activity.

@@RyanShirley Yes, I was born there and grew up there but last year in october i moved to the UK, I recommend going there, but if i had to pick the best one it'll be like tenerife because fuerteventura is the youngest one and is more built up with not much scenery.
