Hi Raleigh. Good to see you. Yeah, agree that some of those Showcases may be relatively under-represented on census due to their value. Showcase 4 (at ~550 copies) though likely gives us an idea of what their census numbers might be if they were more valuable. BTW: been checking out a few of your videos. You've been dealing in some really sweet books recently.

An added quality of UKPVs is that, unlike the newsstands editions in certain date ranges (like the 1980s), they are scarce across the board, in ALL grades. Practically speaking, UKPVs (due to the trip across the Atlantic in a boat, back and forth, etc) are non-existent in grades above 7.5/8.0 to boot! In other words, no need to wait until that high-grade UKPV crosses your path. The low-grade UKPVs are very scarce irelative to the cents, so should be a treat for any collection. Anyway, look forward to your project.

@@uFELLA Great. I'll have a little fun with the topic. For good or bad, I think U.S. collectors (which I am one) are exceptionally U.S.-centric. So much so that it overrides other compelling considerations. What's that foreign currency doing on my American comic? haha. That said, I will certainly make the argument for why the UKPV books should be valued more as well. I hope the video inspires good conversation.

I actively collected old U.S., and when that PC matured, II focused on comics. So I don't mind the pence price block at all. I find it endearing, in a historical kind of way. Cheers.

HI PureGosu. The Overstreet Guide that just came out now has FF48 in the top 50. I may do a video about recent upgrades/downgrades to "Top Books" in the guide, which of course would include your boy, SS.

Hi Metal Bum. Good question. Definitely true. One of the reasons I stuck with the Top 50 comics books was that books that aren't valuable/popular likely won't be graded. Nevertheless, even in the top 50, there is likely to be a discrepancy where books toward the top of the list are more likely to have a greater proportion graded). All that said, the Showcases (which are from the late 50s) are much tougher than the Marvel Keys. Case in point, Showcase 4 is incredibly valuable so I don't think it is "under-submitted." To date, fewer than 600 are on census compared to over 3,600 Amazing Fantasy 15s.

I’m looking more into scarcity and trying to pick up more rare books but also understand $$$can come into play with those low census books I just picked up a suspense comics 7 LBCole cover. Pretty proud of it. Baby steps for me to some bigger ones. Also got some witches tales w cool covers

Hi Ralph. Excellent point. I've thought a decent bit about that very question. Here's my take. Books of low value will rarely be submitted to CGC. That's why I limited the pool to Overstreet's Top 50 silver-age books. Even still, Hulk 1 and AF 15 at the top of the value list are likely going to have a higher percentage of their books slabbed than some of the DC issues you allude to. That said, I think Showcase #4 makes a compelling point about how much rarer these late 50s DC books are relative to the Marvel keys. Its value ranks up there with the Marvel big boys - AF15, FF1, Hulk 1 -- but has fewer than 600 copies on census (compared to ~3,600, ~2,700, and ~2000 respectively). So, yeah, I agree with you that the books at the top of the list may have relatively deflated census numbers but my guess is that they are still much scarcer than the Marvel keys.

Hi bestcore1. Thanks for the comment. True. More desirable books are more likely to be sent to CGC. That's why I limited the books for consideration to the Top 50 silver-age books according to Overstreet. Still, the top 10 rarest on my list aren't as popular/expensive as the silver-age marvel grails and therefore are likely underrepresented on CGC relative to AF 15, Hulk 1, etc . That said, Showcase 4 is a VERY expensive book and only has ~550 copies. So, I imagine that the other Showcases -- if they were equally expensive -- wouldn't have many more copies than that.
