LOL😆 You guys and your video so makes me look forward to arriving for the first time... This struck a chord, you are spot on with your comparisons of Toronto; couldn't live with that myself after attempting to resettle Ontario 24 years later 😡! It is fantastic to find some assurance that the path forward to Saint John has precisely what I have sought for so long... Am happy for you and envious in this moment that Saint John has delighted you both so that you are compelled to share it with everyone interested ....

Saint John was out of my radar until this week when I found this KZfaq Channel. It's crazy that in 2018 I did an exploratory visit through Moncton and not know more about Saint John. But now it's our option to immigrate and we are very excited to move there. If all plans runs well in the summer of next year we will be arriving on! Hi. I just came across this video. I hope not much has changed in the 2 years since posted :) I've moved from in and around Toronto (and couldn't agree more re your Toronto comment, haha!), to the Niagara Region, to now Montreal. I knew very little about Saint John, but am seriously considering it after the little bit of research I've done. Thank you for this video. It's nice to get some insight/an opinion from locals who have lived in other Canadian cities as well. It's nice to know there are still a few hidden gems to consider.

If you browse our videos you will find one called "healthcare in New Brunswick" and another called "property taxes". You could also check our "FAQ" video. In the KZfaq search, enter our channel name and those phrases and you should find those videos. We haven't done one specifically on income taxes because it varies by income level, but if you google "income tax rates by province" you will find all the rates and can compare new Brunswick to your own province for your particular income level. Due to the number of requests for help we have received, Wendy and I are both Realtors now, so if you need more specific information about moving here, feel free to contact us. Great video, very helpful and insightful! Looking at moving from Ontario to Saint John next year some time. Curious what you think of the housing market.. seems it's growing fast out there because of people like me. Slightly concerned about buying and then losing value the following year or do you think NB can sustain the housing cost increase? We have the potential to be mortgage free before 30 if we make the move so its definitely tempting and we want to go for it! Thanks!
@WeLoveSaintJohn

Thank you for your comment. You know, historically, there was not the same price discrepancy between this area and the larger markets as there is now. Prices in this area have more or less stayed steady while the GTA and metro Vancouver exploded. Now there is little mini explosions happening here too as homes become out of reach to the average person in the big markets. I read in Blog T.O. recently that Ontario is worried about brain drain as young people are leaving, mainly headed to the Maritimes where homes are still affordable. The net in-migration for places like Saint John is causing house prices to rise quite dramatically. Unless the bubble bursts in Southern Ontario, I don't see this changing anytime soon. But if the bubble bursts, values will decrease a lot more there than here. When the time comes that you decide to make the move and need someone you trust, all our contact info. is in the description of this video. Thanks for watching.

I really appreciate your objective opinion about that. Greetings from Cali - Colombia 🇨🇴 .

Thank you for watching and for your comment. Only you can decide what's right for you and your family. Objectively, while Moncton may have slightly better job opportunities, I think Saint John wins in every other point you mentioned. This is a great city to raise a family. Good luck with your decision making process.

Moncton has significantly more accommodations for children activities, largest water park in the maritimes, largest zoo in the maritimes, warmest/nicest beaches in Canada that you can swim without freezing to death(shediac is only 12 minutes drive NOT 30 minutes , cap pele about 20 minute drive). As for activities there's a ton, festivals like the 2nd largest north american car show, entire downtown is blocked 20,000+ people downtown with free live bands all day/evening. Acadian day is also massive here, same situation as the car show. Moncton is also growing at a significantly faster rate, more job opportunity's, many large blue chip companies have established corporate offices here (TD bank, Alcoa, Blue Cross, Atlantic Lotto, and yes multiple Irving offices too, just to name a few) currently the city area has 12 + cranes with buildings going up. Saint John is nice don't get me wrong but the momentum Moncton has right now is on another level (20+ years top 10 fastest growing city in Canada). In about 5 years downtown area will double in size. Also its the most central city in the maritimes. 1.5Hrs away from Saint john, Fredericton, 1H from PEI, 45m from Nova Scotia. This makes it easy for day road trips Moncton is also the most diverse city in NB, currently 50% of all NB immigration is settling to Moncton and has been for a few years. IMO the only thing SJ has over Moncton is architecture/history.

@@marcgallant5270 Thank you for your well written comment. Our channel is targeted toward people considering moving to the Maritimes for better quality of life. At the time your comment was posted, the humidex in Moncton (and Shediac) was 40 degrees celsius. In Saint john it was 27 degrees, cooler by the beaches. Parlee beach is very crowded in the summer and has had 13 do not swim warnings so far this year due to elevated bacteria counts. Moncton also offers the opportunity for more shovelling in the winter. I do not think that 12 cranes contributes to a higher quality of life, but it does contribute to a higher cost of housing, since as you mentioned, Moncton is growing quickly. I agree that Moncton does offer more opportunity to young immigrants and Canadians that are on a career path to higher incomes, much as Calgary did in the past. There should be a channel dedicated to this. Saint John, in my very honest opinion, for all the reasons mentioned in this video, offers a much higher quality of life for adults and children.

I lived in Fredericton 30 years ago when I was a student. I would go to Saint John once in while. I remember when entering the city there was an odor from the pulp and paper factory. Is that factory still operational?
@WeLoveSaintJohn
@WeLoveSaintJohn 2 жыл бұрын
The pulp mill is still operating. The city and updated regulations have combined to make any odours not noticable our barely noticeable depending on where you are and which way the wind is blowing. To us, coming from a hotbed of horrendous pollution in the Vancouver area, it's a non-issue but I suppose it depends on your sensitivities.

Plain exaggeration. If you are very close to the refinery or the pulp mill, you may get a whiff of them depending which way the wind is blowing. Sometimes I wonder if people think this is the only city in Canada with any industry. Does anyone ever complain about these things in Vancouver or Toronto? Way more industry there than Saint John will ever have, but because they are big cities it gets lost in the shuffle and no one talks about it.

There are no salsa clubs. About 10 years ago there was a Brazilian lady that came to city and offered salsa/Latin dance classes, but not sure she is here anymore. That would be a nice business idea. As for working, there are 3 or 4 dance schools in area. I’d reach out to them to see what they have to say, they might be able to get you more focused on goal or opportunities. Google Saint John InterAction School of Performing Arts, or Saint John Danceability.

@travelport7868
@travelport7868 3 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend uptown - it’s a quick bus ride to the college and it has all the amenities a student would want, including restaurants, shopping, entertainment, parks, nightlife. Millidgeville is where the university campus is and would require 2 bus routes with a transfer uptown. There is a bus called the Champlain Express that goes right from King’s Sq to NBCC in 15 minutes. And wherever you live uptown, King’s Sq is no more than a 10 minute walk. Maybe 6 months prior to your arrival you may want to reach out to a reputable uptown property owner like Norcum.com to reserve an apartment / check availability.

Cenus data do not include surrounding area's. Saint john is the Industrial City with Industrial Port City issues. There is a Big Free masons Culture That is why the buildings are the way they are. Lots of Bars. 5000 plus. Land Mass Wise. It is bigger then Moncton and spread out. Yes the Population in Saint John has Shrunk because the tax's are the pitts compared to other local outside areas Like Grand bay, Rothsay and Quispamsus, Hampton etc. A lot of people live 45 min outside the city center. Urban Sprall is a real thing. Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview salisbury Is a Box Store City and Storage. It called the HUB city for a reason they have the shopping centers which attracts all the shoppers from PEI, NS, Northern NB, Saint john, Sussex etc.. Mix of French and English there . Tone of traffic!! Inside local Joke. Is that all Roads lead to Moutian Road in Moncton. Best go on a tuesday Morning while school is in. If you don't want to be stuck in big city traffic and I mean like Montreal big city traffic Because the City civil engineers never built the roads for all the traffic volume. So clumped into small 2 lane roads that run through the city. You best be knowing where your going. Frederticon Is a Political City, University and Collages, Lawyers...
