There is one more thing that really helps me: Clean the Glass in the evening right before or after the light goes out. Since I do it that way, I have at least 2-3 Days more time until I need to clean it again.

There's a feeding technique that I use which seem to prevent uneaten food. And that's to pre-soak the food in a small glass bowl until it sinks, suck it up into a pipette and release it right in front of my clownfish's face. Since he's able to see all the food, he scarfs it down and barely misses a single pellet!

UV hands down, made the biggest difference in time between glass cleaning for me. That said, we should embrace the chore that is cleaning glass. It is generally indicative of a healthy tank. Spotless glass = lack of nutrient in my experience.

Dear Ryan and Randy, I've been watching your superb films for 6 years now, I wish to keep my first tank, a cube, with clownfish and appropriate corals, the thing is chaps, I'm in a wheelchair, my arms are fine and I can kneel on the seat for short periods what difficulties do you envisage for me and other wheelchair users? I would never have contemplated marine fish keeping, if it weren't for your informed, innovative, inspirational, ideas, I thank you for the time and effort that these films must have taken, hopefully, it's $$developed your business! Hey Glenn, Awesome to hear that you're interested in joining the hobby! One thing that you might want to consider is an All-In-One tank with all of the filtration in the rear sump area. By not having a sump below the tank, this would allow you to use a stand that is a bit shorter than what's typical, making access into the tank easier. We've obviously never been in your situation, but it seems like access to the tank would be the most challenging part. Other than that, you should be good to go 😁 Feel free to run any other ideas by us; we're always happy to help if we can!

G'day! Thank you so v.much for the kind reply, I'm looking at the tanks you mentioned, especially those you've featured over the years, would it be 'bonkers' (stupid) to consider mounting the cabinet on some sort of frame with wheels, I do not wish to be kneelng on the wheelchair seat too often, as, a bit like heaters and their falibility, I'm eventually going to stumble, fall in, or fall off! Yeah, My Shop told me to get a bunch of snails.. They did clean up but it wasn't pristine. I got used to having them in the tank i kinda like them in there now. I can get away with cleaning the glass when i do my weekly water change.. I did add a bag of Chemi pure in the sump. which made the algae that DID grow a lot easier to remove . I am going to try the Light Management solutions also. since i have a FO(Fish Only) tank. I do like that "Food defroster" Gizmo.. Thanks Boys.

Hello, thank you for all your videos. Question: What is the best way to clean micron bag ? Because it's a mess to clean it by hand ?
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 жыл бұрын
If it's a felt bag, one option that always works well is to throw it in the washing machine. If you're using a mesh bag, then cleaning by hand is the best option as they tend to be a little more fragile.

I love your videos guys, I’m new into reefing and I’m in the middle of constructing my 60g cube. I’ve had to re-drill the tank and make a custom overflow box, remove the trickle filter system and I’ve installed a sump. Inside the sump is a diy filter cup, a skimmer, a refugium, marine cure bricks, ceramic media, a carbon reactor and a UV. I intend to do a fish less cycle using dr tims in a few weeks once my aqua scape of dry rock is complete and my dosing system arrives, I plan on dosing 2 part and housing torch corals with fish. my question for you guys is do I use my UV steriliser when cycling my tank to prevent an algae bloom? Or will this kill off the good bacteria? Thank you guys so much for all your knowledge! And keep up the good work. Your videos are most helpful

Had Cyano all over my sand too. Just went away 1 day lol. I think just keep up with your maintenance (water changes, changing filter socks, etc) and once your tank matures, it’ll go away on its own. My tank was set up for at least 1.5 years too before things improved

hi what can you recommend when the glass is 3 cm thick greetings Martin Denmark
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, most of the strongest magnetic glass cleaners have a max thickness of 1" (~2.5 cm). Because of that, you're probably going to be best off with a hand-held scraper like the ones from Continuum. www.bulkreefsupply.com/brands/continuum-aquatics.html

People simply don't have a clean up crew. They get beautiful fish, a variety of food, then wonder why their tank looks like absolute HELL. Me, I have two clowns and two chromis in a 9 gallon with 2 neris snails, 2 normal snails. Algae is always down and never would have thick algae ANYWHERE in my tank. I'm planning on getting a blenny or an emerald crab for the brown algae on the rock.

Do you guys have any idea why I wouldn't be able to keep a tang alive for more than a week? I just lost a scopas after 3 days. I acclimated it and it looked good for 2 days but it just stopped swimming today. No other fish were aggressive towards either of the tangs I've got. Both looked good in the fish store before I bought them. I keep salinity at 1.025 and ph at 8.3. No ammonia or measurable nit or pho. I've got smaller fish in there like two clowns, a blenny, a mandarin goby, and the only larger fish is a foxface. My mimic tang was even larger than my foxface. I've tried varying flow. When I saw them slow down and start laying down. Tank has been up for 7 months and has been really stable thanks to my huge fuge.

It usually comes down to water parameters, bullying from another fish, disease, or malnutrition. If you're not seeing any bullying and your water parameters check out, then my suggestion would be to focus on nutrition. First, find a tang that looks visually fat and one that you can see eating at the fish store before you buy. From there, feed lots of veggie based foods like nori sheets and seaweed extreme pellets. Tangs should be offered some sort of plant based food at least once per day.

Vibrant is the best. It seems like every time i suggest it somebody has “read” somewhere that you shouldnt use it. Lack of experience it seems. In over 17 years i have never had a problem with vibrant in saltwater or even fresh for that matter. Nice to hear it from the experts!

Do you have any euphyllia in your tank by any chance? It could be totally wrong but I have heard euphyllia polyps can bail using vibrant - it could be an old wives tale.
@fishpony1211
@fishpony1211 2 жыл бұрын
@@briandonaldson3809 yes i do. Not many but i have 2 frog spawn and one indo torch. I use this stuff bi-weekly as a preventative. What i can say from experience is, your clean up crew that rely on algae growth can stave to death. So rather then having 100 snails like any lfs store recommends, i only keep about 20 and replace the ones that die every few months.

17 years, thought vibrant had only been out a few years. I never saw any noticeable problems with any of my corals including euphilia. Used it for bubble algae and was gone within couple weeks. However did get replaced essentially by cyano (from memory) straight away, I probably should have continued dosing to see if that would have been tackled too, but went to my usual method of getting rid of cyano so couldn't say whether a continued dose would have worked. Haven't seen it do anything to hair algae I've had.
@fishpony1211

@@neilbright5346 not sure exactly how long its been out but its been a while, a long while. I dont think it helps with cyano. Red slime remover and more flow helps with tht. The point i was trying to make is that i have been in the hobby for over 17 years and have always heard ppl bashing all these chemicals without actually having experience using it. I know a few ppl that say vibrant doesnt work for them, but it does not mean it does not work. I have also heard ppl say they can not keep pulsing xenias alive when it grows like a weed in everyone elses tank. Crazy.

I've never messed with salt water tanks but I have a lot of fresh water tanks. The way I maintain my tanks I rarely have to clean the glass. My tanks grow zero algae. The back panels of my tanks I literally never clean and no algae. No clean up crew snails, shrimp, plecko. My all female tank is a 75 gallon with 25 cichlids in it hasn't had the glass cleaned in 7 months and no algae. Glass looks pristine. The tank is right next to a window and gets direct sunlight the second half of the day.
