"Phenomenon" starring John Travolta. A humble, simple guy comes out of a bar after some drinks with his friends and is hit by a light from the sky. He falls to the ground and when he wakes up he is transformed into an 'enlightened' man. He starts to see things clearly. He comes up with simple solutions to complex problems. He is filled with love and has so much to offer to humanity. But the erudite and learned from universities approach him, in a rather arrogant manner, seeking his permission to dissect his brains so they could find out what really happened to him. Of course, he tells them to go to hell. Watch it, please. You will never regret the decision.

The Truman show!! It’s not as explicit ‘spiritual’ as most of these movies, but it’s definitely a great movie about ‘waking up’! As are the Lord of the Rings movies. As is Avatar. Etc.

The movie "Mr.Nobody" is what touched me the most among the list. Spoiler takeaway:.. .. The message of the movie is like what Buddha said. flesh related pleasures only bring suffering. The only way is the Middle path. thats why the boy ran in the middle path and found that leaf. lot of concepts from Indian Hindu scripts extracted. thats why, there was a Bollywood scene shown in the space ship, and the intercourse paintings in the middle shown of Ancient Indian kings and queens. Great movie. Live is not to be taken lightly... ..

If that is the movie starring Jeff Bridges - every single mom in America should be required to watch it B4 giving birth!!! Am as serious as a heart attack. Living in Hawaii for 7 yrs (where every culture knows the martial arts) and observing how poised and not 'bumping' into things (bodily awareness) the children are in Hawaii, was horrified upon my return to the east coast, to observe American (and yes I am an American) brats having temper tantrums where-ever I turned. So spent the next DECADE going around to elementary and high schools talking to principals about offering/introducing the martial arts in phys ed classes (specifically JUST FOR ALL FEMALES) for 3 reasons: 1) boys were/still are given a variety of sports to choose from for 12 yrs of their public education (which is worthless by the way!), equipment included. 2) Girls who could learn to defend themselves from attackers WOULD NOT GET RAPED! 3) Boys learn a LIFE SKILL by sports teaching them "teamwork" and its value. What do girls get? A "baby-wets-it" toy for nurturing a "role" ~ NOT a marketable skill for future employment for the rest of their lives! I came to learn it WAS MOTHERS-IN-AMERICA WHO ARE CLUELESS RE: THE MARTIAL ARTS, having learned from principals that PARENTS WERE OFFERED SUCH AN OPTION AT PTA MEETINGS, BUT A PREVAILING IGNORANT RESPONSE (was they) "DID NOT WANT THEIR KIDS TO LEARN HOW TO FIGHT AS THAT WAS NOT WHAT THEIR TAXPAYER DOLLARS SUPPORT." Unfortunately, the principals did not know enough about the subject either to immediately re-assure them all that was an I-G-N-O-R-A-N-T (first teaching them that the word I-G-N-O-R-A-N-T means "an unawareness of facts involved" ASSUMPTION as the SKILLS of a martial arts course was to discipline the body using the MIND, and the MIND that is disciplined IS SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE NO MATTER WHAT CHOICES ARE MADE - FACT! I gave up after trying (for a decade) cuz PRINCIPALS ARE JUST AS IGNORANT AS MOTHERS !!! Yet stunning examples of incorrigible youth nationwide at dojos who were FAILING school, were offered a LAST CHANCE TURNAROUND to learn the discipline (NOT FIGHTING AS THAT WAS "the mere icing on the cake" of benefits) OF HOW TO LIVE LIFE SUCCESSFULLY via a MARTIAL ARTS EDUCATION! Thanks for the reminder of how that movie taught SO MUCH MORE THAN SPIRITUALITY!

Small mistake at 5:21 with #5 SAMSARA: The film portrayed was not directed by Ron Fricke, but by Pan Nalin. Ron Fricke's 2011 'Samsara' is a sort of non-narrated documentary, but entirely based on beautiful imagery and music. I highly recommend BOTH.

I thought the Mission with Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons was a great spiritual Movie even if seemed to say either that God doesn't exit or that Good people will often suffer and sometimes be mrudered. I thought Frallty was a lso a great Spiritual Movie, but it might also be considred an Anti=Spirituality Movie

I'm not sure how dystopian themes translate to being spiritual. When I see "spiritual", I'm thinking uplifting, and that's what I'm always looking for. Perhaps you have a list of films made by women. One on the list I enjoyed, though, is "Peaceful Warrior".

No, spiritual does not mean uplifting. That is called Cotton Candy. Spirituality is about sacrifice, love, struggle, challenge and personal growth. It is about service to others and not strictly yourself. Yes, uplifting movies have their place, but they often do not penetrate deeply and are cousins to movies that lull us into a temporary sense of self-satisfaction. The term 'heart warming" is often used to describe such movies. Nothing wrong with a feel-good movie, but it does not in any way capture the challenge and suffering often part of a spiritual path.

It’s schlock, but Lucy was my favorite. Taken as a metaphor for the conflicts and interactions between time, intelligence (I.e. consciousness) and eternity, it unfolds rather more nicely. The only two I’ve not seen are the Asian films. Of the rest, Cloud Atlas is the best and most beautiful.

I was actually looking for a list of Films about historical spiritual leaders. Seven years in Tibet fits that being about the Dahli Lama, but I'm looking for other films about historical spiritual leaders like Martin Luther, Buddha, etc. People that had an impact on spirituality and religion.

Check with INDIAN television to ask if they ever intend to share it again globally and if not, is well worth the cost whatever it is; B4 the covid debacle GENOCIDE, this beautiful TV series on the life of Buddha was aired; a stunning FEAST FOR THE EYES just in terms of color sets, let alone the history of a man who taught himself an enlightened path to bliss thus taught an entire NATION "how to live one's life." Being the son (a PRINCE) of a Maharaja who shunned his title/inheritance, it would take the better part of his entire lifetime B4 his father realized his son had made the right choice of HOW to live life ~ not only for himself, but for his entire nation and it the people, including the Maharaja.
