It wasn't good. It was just as bad as Bob Marley: One Love except extremely disrespectful and insulting. Yes, Amy had her demons, but she was much more than that. The movie focused way too heavily on her drug use and relationship woes than on her talent. A lot of female celebrity biopic tends to always do this.

At first, I was excited to see it, however, once I heard that the actress would be singing her songs I was disappointed and hesitant. Plus I heard reviews on TikTok saying it was terrible and not to waste your money on a movie that depicts Amy Winehouse in all negative ways possible. My boys knew I had always been an Amy Winehouse fan and they surprised me with tickets for my birthday. I do agree with TikTok the movie did focus a lot on the downfalls in her life. However, this was a 2-hour long movie it's understandable that they could not fit every aspect of her life in the movie that would have made it much longer. The actress's singing really didn't sound as bad as I originally thought some vocals seemed to be exaggerated especially while singing Back to Black. If anyone decides to make another movie of her they should consider someone with similar vocals such as Lady Gaga to play her.

The Romanization of Blake made me feel uncomfortable as well. The narrative made it seem like he was Amy's one and only love, when she was dating Reg Traviss at the time of her death, with the two planning to marry, and start a family.

Me too. Blake admitted to introducing Amy to drugs. I was furious about why he's an innocent bystander in the movie when he wasn't. Granted, he did turn his life around and whatnot, but he still ruined Amy’s life. Having said that, people on Instagram were ruthless and sending him death threats years after her death. I'm not excusing Blake’s actions, but he doesn't deserve the death threats.
@trinaq
@trinaq 24 күн бұрын
@@kamsismithSeconded, Blake didn't deserve that, even though he played a major role in Amy's untimely death. He isn't a bad man, but he also is far from the Saint that he's depicted as in the film.

I also want to say the same thing about her father. In the documentary, he had his inebriated daughter perform on stage despite her poor health and being an opportunist. He exploited her for profit. I don't care if he created a foundation in her name to prevent others from entering a similar path, but he's exploited her in life and death through books, interviews, and numerous documentaries that he's made.

My favourite part of the biopic was the close bond shared between Amy and her nana. It brought much needed heartwarming moments into an otherwise bleak storyline.

I liked that too. Besides that, I thought the movie was similar to Blonde without the pornographic aspects of that movie. Just drugs, relationship woes, and bulimia. Which biopic was more enjoyable: Bob Marley: One Love or this one? I hope the Michael Jackson movie will be better.
@trinaq
@trinaq 24 күн бұрын
Hmm, it's a tough call, but I've got to say that I preferred the Bob Marley biopic. It didn't always hit the right beats, and it was hard to follow the time lines, but at least they attempted to subvert biopic clichés. Which one did you prefer?
@kamsismith
@kamsismith 24 күн бұрын
Both didn't impress me in the way that I’d hoped, but I would also say Bob Marley: One Love since yes, the movie does talk about an assassination attempt, but it’s more light compared to Back to Black. I feel both Amy and Bob’s stories would worked better as miniseries. I'm glad Bob Marley got a biopic because he's an icon. I'm also excited for the Michael Jackson movie. On the one hand, I'm hoping it’s better than Man in the Mirror while on the other hand, a TV series would have been a better fit. I also noticed the Amy and Bob biopics, the leads are played by British actors. Of course, Amy is from the UK, but Bob isn't.

1. There was not enough criticism of the press that taunted and harassed Amy, there was only criticism of paparazzi, not the journalists who published the shit about her. That’s probably because those same publications that wrote headlines like “Amy on crack” are the ones that are going to be reviewing the film. 2. The death scene was awful. If you knew nothing about her, you’d assume based on the scene that she died because of Blake moving on and having a child. That wasn’t true. That may have been a factor but not the sole reason as to why she relapsed into drinking alcohol again.

They brushed over so many important details surrounding her death, she'd been told by doctors her addiction put her health in critical condition and if she kept drinking it could make her heart fail at any moment and that's what happened the next time she relapsed, they should have added that for context and just show her picking up a bottle then it explains without having to show her actual death

Romantic obsession is a result of childhood trauma- particularly neglect and abandonment issues. I watched the Amy documentary on HBO and got a really negative impression of Amy’s dad. When such young adults have substance abuse issues so early in life it always makes me wonder what role the parents played in bringing that out in their kid.

I appreciate Abela doing all the singing. When acting, especially portraying a real person, you need to be who you're portraying as much as possible. To be them in a scene then cut to lip syncing can seperate you from the character making you feel like your cosplaying someone instead of being someone which is what you need for something like this.

I think we need to remember that the film is only 2 hours so it can't show all her close moments with her friends, all her times going to rehab or doing drugs so I can understand why those parts don't feature as much. As for Blake, idk about others watching, but I felt that he was portrayed in a very negative light- he manipulated her, used her when she was famous, was always keeping one foot out the door...how could you watch this and think he was being treated in a sympathetic light is beyond me! The only person who was portrayed in a sympathetic light was her dad, who shouldn't have been- he obviously helped with the film so they couldn't show how manipulative he really was but really they shouldn't have collaborated with him and shown a more truthful image of him. As for the Blake focus, it makes sense considering this film centers around her Back to Black album which is about him.

@@brendakok7377 yes! What got me too was when in the beginning of the movie, Amy was asking her dad to come to one of her shows and he was making an excuse as to why he couldn’t come. I like the subtlety of the movie but I’d you paid attention all that stuff was there!

When it is mentioned that the film does not show all the times that Amy was being pushed to go back to rehab, especially given how we know how her story ends (though in truth, it continues and always will).....I felt that seeing her being pushed, forced, pulled, shoved to go to rehab only to end up back in bad shape, is not something we need to see over and over again as we know it happened so it would be repetitive and tragic, more tragic than it already is. I understand that most of us go to films to escape our own realities so to go overboard, regardless if it is true or not, on rehab attempts, might just push us over the edge. On a personal note, I wish they would make a film, or a few, about entertainers who we know and appreciate and had to go through a hard time but came out on the bright side of their addictions/mental illnesses, etc. In my case, given the times we are living in as a world, a little hope would, for me, be much appreciated. Have not seen film, yet, as I live in Italy and to see the film in anything but English would be a disappointment (and Italians do not like subtitles, in general). I hope she is at peace, singing with her Nan, wherever it is they are now.

I really enjoyed the film. I thought compared to many biopics with many of our adored and favorited artists battling addiction being over focused on that it was the opposite. Right from the jump Amy talked about wanting to do more than music. Which if you seen her interviews over the years she wanted more to life than her job or being famous. I also appreciated the angle they went with Blake. I never understood why Amy was so in love with him but it was nice to see it from her rose colored glasses versus what our biases are. Hes a monster, its his fault. When Amy was her own person and if you ever been in love, love can alter your view and decisions on whats right and wrong. So that was refreshing. I also feel like they touched on drug use but didn’t go into detail because why should that matter? Amy was not her addictions she was more than that. I loved the storyline with her and her Nana too. What was missing was her close friends. Again, I really enjoyed the movie. I believe the actor got her presence and that made me happy.

No biopic is going to be 100% correct. Mitch was definitely not the best person for her. Her and Blake were toxic together, but he shouldn’t be blamed for all of it. Just wish she could’ve stayed sober. Just imagine where she would be now. ❤️ May she RIP!

I saw the movie the night it was released in CT USA . It was portrayed more of a love story than a exceptionally talented writer and singer who was drawn to alcohol and drugs and how she could not control her addiction which lead to her untimely death! I was very disappointed with the ending. It left out her last concert when she was drunk and. Soon died after that terrible performance! Regardless Amy will always be my favorite performer and I hope she will be remembered for her talent and not for her bad choice of loving Blake and her addiction! ,RIP AMY, I love you ❤❤❤ Cindy

I love this movie. But it truly threw me back into my deep Bi-Polar depression, a place I haven't been in a long time. I self-harmed when she died and carved a small "A" into my arm and though the scar has faded, it is still there. there. Amy and I were very much alike and i lived my boring drug filled, boyfriend obsessed, depressed life vicariously through her. My obsessions were dug out from a deep box i made in my mental states about her. But I didn't like the new plastic surgeries Amy, almost glad that she was frozen in time to be eternally 27 eternally. Marisa breathed Amy in every scene. I thought she was phenomenal. I loved the movie. It has only a weeks run here due to low attendance. I was surprised there wasnt more people. So now I'll go fornmy fourth time. I wont cry now, I know what I'm walking into. But I've never stopped having Amy in my life every day. I have 8 teeshirts and unusal photos of her decorate my bathroom walls. first time I cried very hard through the whole movie and i was up all night and it completely took over the next day. I thought the movie was very powerful and well done. From 68 year old woman in Florida---oh, and through medicine and therapy, I have my Bi-Polar under control---well this reaction surprised me. Bravo to Marissa for her very hard work to sing and play guitar. She did a very good job at representing Amy. To say that she didnt sing exactly like Amy of course not. She isnt Amy. But close enough to enjoy the film. I give this film an A and will see it again. Bravo to all from the director down to the entire crew. The film crew undoubtedly put a lot of effort into making the film, but its impact is no greater than that of the documentary released many years ago. What I mean is that it doesn't bring much new to the table.

Was the film perfect? Nope, but it had great moments, Abela’s acting was top notch even if her singing didn’t exactly match Amy’s. I’d say is a good film, won’t win any awards but a story that needed to be told and nope the documentary wasn’t enough.

This movie shouldn't have been made. It was that bad. I liked Abela, it was easy to tell she was better at acting than permitted to be in the movie due to the awful script. They also could have given her better hair and makeup and wardrobe to appear more like Amy. This movie was exploitative and Sam Taylor-Johnson should be lambasted for it she deserves it. Also watch my review and pitch for a better version of an Amy Winehouse movie. Ty

Didn't go enough into how she was harassed and hounded by the media as they chased her around Camden They didn't show her humour enough They didn't criticise her Dad enough he was a big part of her downfall yes he adored her that's not in doubt and yes she adored him but he definitely liked her success and tried to push her for more when she wasn't ready Also they didn't give amy enough credit she did a lot better at staying sober at the end it was just one bad relapse that did it I did like how it was fairer to Blake though he wasn't a villain like her family have made him out to be just a deeply damaged individual I think Marisa looked good as an Amy look a like but she didn't capture her personality enough especially that dry sarcastic humour Rip Amy you absolute angel if I had a time machine I wouldn't choose to visit the dinosaurs or go to the far future or see ancient Greece id go to 2006 and try my hardest to help she needed a big hug and someone to tell her she was worth everything because the world feels empty without amy Winehouse we lost something truly special there ❤🖤🎶

I am a huge fan of Amy from beginning of frank. Yes I’m old. It’s hard to say this.but people really need to accept it. Unfortunately Amy had her own addictions. Blake had his. They joined forces and tried different. Because unfortunately that is what addicts do. They both come out of it. Away from each other thankfully. He’s here dealing with the blame. She unfortunately is not here and. It’s so awful but she passed from her own addictions, not what they both took part in

I think the movie was good. isn't that important if they didn't get everything 100% right since it's just a movie. those who wrote the script also know themselves that it is not 100% correct. if you want everything 100% true and right, you'd better just watch the documentary AMY instead to whine and complain. simply.
