Every motorcycle has it's own pedigree, attitude and temperament built into it by design. A good motorcycle rider uses his mind and skill to adapt to the strengths and weaknesses, making a physical and emotional bond between man and machine that cannot be explained, only experienced. I would like to see a video siries on 10 things my motorcycle hates about me.

I am not a tall chap, 5"9, but i found the Triple RS a little cramped, it felt great sitting still, but i personally prefer a bit more leg room, also found the wind at higher speed very annoying, meaning i was happy to ride at closer to legal road speeds, you have to ask if 120HP is needed for that, why not get a bike with 75hp, costs less to buy and less to run

As a daytona 675 rider, i also experienced a tip in like feel when slow speed cornering, comes down to fork stiffness and rebound.. once you play around with it and stiffen them it goes away, but you also sacrifice that squishy comfort over the stiff track like suspention setting

Hi TMF, great video as usual! I myself own a 2008 STR and find it nice to see your point of view. 10 - Tank Range: i tend to get 135 miles (220km) before the light comes on and usually continue for another ~30 miles (50km) before fuelling up. One time I even went 180 miles in one tank as I couldn't find a petrol station. Result was: ~250ml of petrol left 9 - Brake Reservoir: agree, do not understand why they really put on the plastic ones. No-one really keeps them. Anyway one can replace them so no big deal. 8 - Low Speed Handling: never felt that but since it is my first bike I cant really compare 7 - Missing Fuel gauge: don't mind it too much. Fuel light comes up, I look at the trip counter and remember where it is. Might become a problem when you are unsure where the next petrol station is 6 - almost completely agree. It is a great bike! Only additional gripe I have is that I and the bike absolutely get manky in rain. I have a tail-tidy which really increases the water/dirt being hurled at me from the back wheel. But as I avoid riding in rain anyways it's not too big a deal. Enjoy the weekend! Cheers

Noop, i like the plastic reservoir where i could see the fluid. Agree that it would be nice with a fuel gauge but at least there is a low fuel light on the bike.

Great video TMF! I purchased a 2009 Street Triple two years ago. It is finished in the stunning Roulette Green, and had just over 2k on the clock! I bought it as a run around all weather bike, but its in such good condition I now want to preserve it lol. It came with a tinted screen which I've recently had to remove, as one of the fixing bolts fell out. The problem is I think I know prefer the look of the bike without the screen! Any other owners have any thoughts on this? Trouble is if I do leave the screen off, there are 3 holes that need to be plugged with caps, and getting anything in that colour is difficult now.

One thing I hate is that it's too good for me to trade in for something faster.

I love my 2012 st3. My biggest gripe is the how narrow the range in the steering is before you hit the steering lock. Not a problem when riding, but so annoying when I am trying to walk her out of narrow spaces. Other than that, I love it!

I'm so pleased to hear you say there aren't 10 things to hate about your bike. I feel the same about my bike and I wouldn't do a 10 things I hate on mine. Hate is too strong a word to use for the minor niggles which are so easily remedied, such as the replacement of a standard brake reservoir with an optional upgrade. I honestly believe that if you can find 10 things you truly "Hate" about your car, motorcycle, dog, boat, aeroplane or whatever it may be, then you made a mistake buying it in the first place. If I test rode a bike and hated 10 things about it and then still bought it then I would be a fool to spend my hard earned cash on the bike.

I've just bought a 2010 triple r with 6700kms on the clock, your video reviews over years of ownership were a great resource for my research. My first Triumph :) Said goodbye to the harley today, looking forward to its replacement's arrival later this week.

As a 2014 STR owner I was shocked anyone could find 10 things to hate about our bike and I was right. Well played sir.

As an owner of the 2009 street triple r which shares many of the features of this model some other small niggles are 1. The triumph belly pan will fit around the standard under seat exhausts but a lot of the side exit exhausts have a “pigs tail “ in them and unless you use the zard exhuast system a straight through pipe is needed which in itself would require a remap for smooth running a big expense just to add a belly pan 2. The bike weighs a lot for a 675 noticable when pushing about on the drive or braking hard into tight corners at higher speeds 3. The turning circle is very large 4. Standard seat isn’t all that comfortable especially for long journeys or two up riding 5. Front of the engine is pretty awkward to clean which is why most triumphs look rusted at the front where the down pipes are 6. If you get a cracked indicator or indicator surround the wires are inaccessible as they are on top of the engine and even a child’s hands wouldn’t fit which means removing tank and airbox etc to replace them without modding the wires in some way 7. There are some areas of poor finish ie gear rod connector with super thin paint, top yokes where bars connect to has an area of shiny finish prone to corrosion/tarnishing even with good maintenance 8. Front end can be particular twitchy at high speeds over bumps etc 9. The front cowl is on such an angle that at motorway cruising speeds it reflects the wind at your neck which can be a bit uncomfortable (and the screens they have look ridiculous so not the ideal option) 10. Everybody has a triumph street. They are a great bike though and again these are small niggles which if addressed could make a great bike even better

just ordered my MT 10 mate,,,, shes on the boat now winging her way to me !!!,,, Had a test ride a week ago and had a job giving it back mate !!!! Awsome !!!!!

Maybe it's just me, but I could add a few more to the list. Interested to hear if you agree. 1. The snatchy throttle response at low throttle openings. I mainly find this to be an issue when cruising at a constant speed on bumpy roads. 2. The positioning of the steering bump stops meaning that the turning circle is horrible. 3. The positioning of the buttons on the dash which are obscured by the cables. Mine is an '09 model. This was changed in the later models. 4. The non-adjustable rear shock, except for preload. Mine is a non-R model, so probably not an issue with the R.

for your #8. Get your suspension set for YOU. my brother had that same problem you have turns out he didn't set his suspension correctly. took it to a shop and its a totally diff machine. i had the opposite problem where mine would want to run wide. worth a shot if you haven't done so yet.

Fair comments, my gripe is the look of the headlights. It looks like the bike came with full fairing but someone removed it leaving the lights behind which wasn't designed to be seen naked :(

Should have added the no hazards switch. My previous bike had one and I used it when I came to a sudden halt or when a car was approaching me from behind at high speed while I'm stopped at a red light. They did leave a space for it near the indicator and I believe it is not too difficult to install the switch.

I have the Striple R '14 and I love her so much. She's agile, nimble, wild and makes such a lovely sound. The only thing I sometimes wonder, she hasn't got a hazard light. She doesn't need one, she's just too fast and agile.

Being convinced more and more for this bike becoming my first ever +125cc machine. Should be taking my DAS soon. Thank you for all of your videos on this gorgeous machine.

I own a 2008 Street Triple (non-R), and have for about 10 months and 6000 miles. 1. Low tank mileage. Yes. This is true. I get about 150-160 US miles per tank. My previous bikes did better. 2. Plastic brake reservoirs. Never bothered me. 3. Low speed handling. I think it's just you. I haven't had that issue. 4. No fuel gauge. I just set the trip odometer. My other two bikes didn't have one either. 5. No other issues. Well, I'll add one. Wind blast at higher speeds. I live in the western US where one can run highway speeds for days. I came from fully faired bikes, and this one can get tiring after an hour or more going 80+ mph. I've gotten used to it, but still take my car if I'm going somewhere far away. All in all, yes it is a very good bike and I plan to keep it for a long time.

What I hate is all the electrical issues. Left me stranded with burnt out stator. Then left me stranded with burnt wire at a connector. Now the clutch switch is acting up, one of these days it won't start at all. And I'm just waiting for it to leave me stranded with a burnt alternator.

I've just bought a new Street tripple r in mat grey, this is my second bike, my first was 14 yrs ago so really looking forward for it to be delivered. I've too put on anodised brake reservoirs and tail tidy, bar end mirrors, fly screen, belly pan, seat cowl and frame protectors. Ohh my god it looks fantastic. Hope to see you out sometime, probably not as I'm in Swansea but if your down my way look me up.

The only thing I really hated on my 2010 STR was the stock seat; hard and continuously sliding into the gas tank. Remedied with a Sargent sport seat. The quick turn-in is wonderful at slower speeds as you can easily swoop around those city street corners. What I like most about the Street Triple is the strong roll-on power in top gear from even low rpms; it's 40-60 and 60-80 mph top gear roll on times are just as fast as many 1000cc sport-bikes if you check the motorcycle magazines. Mine is even better with a 2T larger rear sprocket SuperSprox 520 conversion. This is not really an urban motorcycle though; it is a real road-burner that likes the high revs and is even more fun with a QuickShifter. Had mine for 5 years now and I will definitely be keeping it for another 5, it's just too much fun.

I've got a 2010 street triple r,had it for 5 years and it's a great bike.i agree it's bad no fuel gage.i ran mine dry after light came on.wasnt no 20 miles though,more like 10 and had to push it half a mile to garage.gta say lovely roads you were riding on.dont know how you didn't open it up more😀

A few things i didn't like on the newer version 1. A very wet back and arse in the rain..ie it sprays water all up your back 2. A very hard ride that hates pot holes that throws the bike off line. 3. your point in 8..tips in on slow bends 4 False neutrals from 1st to 2nd ...a lot ( the worst part of the example I had.) All of the above made it impractical for what i need a bike for so sold it.

2013 ST my list. 5. still not a fan of the front lights 4. lack of a standard rear mudgard 3. taller first gear, good for gas bad for wheelies 2. abrupt power delivery when rolling back on the gas from fully off, fine in a straight line but not when getting back on the gas in a corner. 1. sometimes won't re-start when warm (other owners have this issue) looking for a fix now...but still really a great bike over all. oh and leaky rad hoses. Rode a 2016 monster 821 and still prefer my triple

MY 2013 HAS FUEL GAUGE.. but yes I’m old school still set the trip counter even with teh fuel gauge. Yes and Agteed on all pointds its fast enough on back roads to rival the inline 4 600’s

Hi It maybe similar on the 2012 fuel warning light I have TST 2014 the fuel warning light comes on when you reach the last 2 bars , and it takes around 10 litres to re-fill, I think its a 17 L tank . One day i will take a fuel-can with me and run it dry just to see the real tank range , so im not hitting the panic button in future well before time , on a long trip in unknown lands .

I too own a 2012 street triple R and love it. Had a selection of superbikes and my last was an R1 which i sadly broke along with my leg. Post accident i ended up returning to two wheels with a Daytona 675 Triumph which was fun but plans to ride around europe for two months saw me search for a more comfy bike...cue the triumph street R. Same sound as the Daytona but not as hard on the wrists or neck. Just about fast enough in the real world and four years on i still love it. The distance to fuel light yup is a bugger, so too is the side stand which i personally find awkward at times to hook down. Otherwise a great bike still looking and sounding sweet.

I'm pretty sure the "Number 8, tipping in at slow speeds" is due to a mixture of compounds on the tyres with harder compound in the middle to reduce wear and softer on the sides for grip. I didn't notice that much on the PR3s but did on the 4s and it's way more pronounced on the ZX1000SX with OEM tyres.

I have 2 issues with my street triple is the terrible turning circle and the fact the exhaust pipe goes between your legs and cooks you legs. I'm literally sweating buckets when riding slowly

TMF - regarding the tip in: try dragging the back brake a bit while also applying some additional throttle. It gives the bike / suspension more forces to work with and will help stabilise it. Before anyone jumps in and starts screaming that this will see TMF in a ditch let me be clear. We are NOT talking about jamming the back brake on like an idiot. Apply a little pressure to the rear brake while also increasing revs a small amount. Give it a go and see what you think. Great technique for filtering too...really helps with stability.

Thanks for the vid. My suggestion to you would be, get a suspension set-up pro to help you to adjust all of the suspension settings custom for you, and it'll probably sort out that low speed tip-in issue which I've heard you speak about in a few of your videos about your STriple. When I bought my 2015 GSX-R600, I got a guy at the Suzuki dealership who is also a professional motorcycle racer to help me set up the suspension for me, based on my weight and riding style, and it was great. When a person REALLY knows what they're doing with full suspension setup, and the bike is set up properly just for you, it makes a world of difference, and I strongly suspect it'll completely solve that little issue you have with the low speed tip-in feeling, and it'll even make the already good handling even better in all riding situations.

Tip in might be tyres. Can in turn be caused by camber causing odd wear patterns. By way of exampletThe old TT100's were notorious for it as they had a curious triangular type profile.

***Previous comment accidentally posted on wife account*** To answer your question though to my comment TMF, it's a 2014 I have just taken delivery of my new STR. Coming from a 2011 z750R, the difference in class is night and day. The Z handled fine but the STR seems to be telepathic in comparison. Build quality is top notch, it looks good and it sounds better. I would agree with the plastics reservoirs. I haven't noticed the bike tip in at slow speeds but the Z was a pig at slow speeds, it was too damn heavy for a naked. I know it's going to sound daft but I feel safer (touch wood) on the STR. I feel as though it has my back a little more as the Z felt like it wanted to bite my ankles at every opportunity. One thing I will say is the arrow can i have specced has the grub screw for baffle removal welded in. I'm not best pleased about that because i want to take the baffle out.

i do not like the windshield (it is a naked bike i know), however, on a highway it is quite windy on my shoulders and helmet. just an extra 10cm of windshield would help a lot. and they did not come out with an option for that. sad. apart from that, magnificent ride :)

Hi TMF.I seem to think Triumph said the 2013 exhaust rethink was partly to address the centre of gravity issue, The only thing I don't like is the way I slide forward until my nuts are getting crushed against the tank. I got the comfort seat and despite appearances that's even worse. I take it that's not an issue with your custom seat?

I have to agree I have a 2016 Street Triple (standard) and really love it. The handling is amazing.... The only thing i would say is a pain is the wind buffeting as I am used to having a fairing! Obviously being a naked bike I expected it would be like that. But other than that perfection

I have a 2013, and the only thing I hate about it is how tall the 1st gear is. I spent years hearing about how Street Triples were good at wheelies, and when I finally get one, they've changed the gear relations.

Yep very hard to hate on an ST. The dipping into corners may be a tyre issue and/or the difference between an base model or an R/RX spec model. . I've ridden my mates 2014 STR and his bike really seems to drop on low speed corners compared to my 2013 base model with ABS. Mine does still dip but no where as near as the STR I rode. The rake of the forks on the STR is different to the base model, maybe why it doesn't dip so much. Also rode an base ST on D21's and it seemed to dip far less than mine on stock Pirelli's. Long post sorry :)

The tip-in is caused by the tires... Thats my guess anyway. I own one and I experienced that, asked around and few guys gave me a clue to focus more on tires and pressure and such :) try it. Worked for me.

Great video as always Mr Flyer! Did a little first 500 mile review on my channel a couple months ago. My Street Triple according to my cheeky 2016 fuel gauge and instant MPG and range will do about 180 miles before she runs dry. Fuel economy I find amazing, I'm always above 60 mpg. Best I've had is 67 mpg on a round trip to Bristol. Small few gripes I have: Steering lock Seems quite a rattly, ticky engine (particularly at the top end between 2000 and 4000 rpm) Standard seat - slides you into tank and not much padding (don't have a gel arse) - Solved with a Triumph high level gel seat Standard mirrors (Triumph can't say they came up several design proposals, had a meeting and decided that was the best option!) - Triumph Bar End Mirrors sorted Standard tyres if you use it in all weathers. Diablo Rosso Corsas to me seem a bit vague and wooden in the rain. Dry, they're great!

On my '16 street triple it came with metal reservoir, but not the anodised aluminium ones. :) And the tank range is about 180 miles.

If your striple tends to fall into the corner at low speeds, check your tire pressure, even .1 atm., is giving this effect already, as from 2,35 atm, at least my striple R (2014) is neutral even at low speeds, enjoy the ride !! regards.R

Good video, I own a 2013 Striple and can heartily agree with your top six, I personally like that low speed tip into turns as it gives me an excuse to blip the throttle back out again

Every modern Triumph I've ridden has felt a little top heavy at slow speeds. I suspect due to the quick steering. My 03 T-Bird Sport even, but it cuts through twisties like a hot knife.

I had a 2009 Street Triple and the only thing that was a minor annoyance was the snatchy throttle. Don't know if that was addressed in later models.

I have a 2012 also. Have put 50k km on it. Love it and don’t think I would ever sell it. Re the new ones- fantastic, but like all modern bikes , I don’t like the low exhaust. I know they are lower CG, but under seat looks so much better. Just look at a Ducati 916. 😉

It is a great bike indeed. My biggest problems are the small turning circle and the slight vibrations above 120 kph. And maybe the thin dealer network when your abroad (the nearest one from the Stelvio pass was 300 km deeper in Italy). The only things i would want extra in a bike is abs for emergency and cruise control. I don't recognize the tank range issue you mentioned, and just did my first 300 km between fill ups (this was in ideal circumstances in the mountains, normally i get about 260 km).

You're not wrong about the slow speed dips into the turns. I too notice this sometimes at the sort of speeds I'm at when making turns at junctions. I have put this down to the lightness of the Street Triple coupled with the relatively aggressive geometry of the bike versus other naked models. There is a lot of Daytona 675 DNA there. If you put on some clipons and a fairing it would essentially be a sport bike. It always wants to dive into the turns and it's highly flickable. At speed that's great, but when you slow down and are not on the power it becomes almost hyper sensitive to any steering input. Incredible bike though. I'm even become fond of the ritual of setting the trip meter at every fuel station. :P

mate i used to own an RSV-4, 80miles i got before the fuel light came on if i was using it day to day for work! Just bought a daytona 675 and the fuel range is a revelation haha.

My #1 would be the suspension on the R. While it's better (or at least stiffer) than most cheap bikes it's still not really good. I couldn't find a setting at which it is compliant enough for good traction while still being stiff enough for good handling. Part of it is probably that I'm somewhat light at 60kg. :) #2 would be that it causes great pain and agony to passengers after a fairly short while (probably related to the suspension). I agree with your observations on the low speed handling, afaik that is the result off a tradeoff to get the nice nimble handling at higher speeds.

A lot of these bikes suffer from small tank syndrome. Although 130 miles is good I would say. On my ER-5 I get between 135-145 miles until I hit reserve, and that is meant to have a good mpg. The problem with making the tank bigger is it increases the center of gravity and therefore affects the handling of the bike and how it corners.

I bought a 2010 STR last month and absolutely love it. The only gripe I have is the seat starting to cause bum ache after about an hour. Do you have standard seat on yours?

You missed out the piss poor stock mirrors! I have a 2016 street triple rx. I had to change the mirrors immediately to the same triumph bar ends that you have. They were worse than useless on the test drive. Mine does have a fuel gauge luckily and I love the handling. I definitely agree with you on the doctors plastic sample cups they use though lol Terrible to look at. Apart from that it is an excellent bike! Keep up the good work, I love the channel 👍😀

The cheap reservoirs is a common thing I hate on premium bikes. Drives me insane!

I think your handling issue may be due to your steering head bearings, was the same on my bike and I had it fixed

I still have my 2015 one, which I really like, but I'm also really excited to see what the new one debuting on the 10th will be like..... I hope you can get a test ride on one of them soon and let us know your findings.

Great video. I own a Street triple 2008 and I find the throttle very snappy and the gearbox rather stiff (it's also hard to find neutral). Do you experience anything similar on your more modern machine? Thanks

As a thought about the tipping into a corner issue at low speeds. I own a 2013 and never noticed this as a problem so wonder if it has to do with the center of gravity being lower on the current models primary from the low slung exhaust.

Such a weird move not putting a fuel gauge on that year model Striple, my 2011 Tiger has a fuel gauge and a very similar instrument cluster.

Actually selling my Daytona for one of these, needed to downsize (read: get something cheaper and more practical) but I couldn't think of anything that would replace the triple engine. The difference in insurance and running costs are in the thousands of pounds, but I don't feel as though I'll be getting any less of a bike.

Would you recommend this as my first bike? And I here a lot about it not being too fast, is this true?

I was wondering where you managed to find 10 things wrong with the striple! Then I got towards the end of the video haha. I have to say I admire your situation having both the street and the 899. That's exactly the position I'd like to find myself in one day :) . I currently have an 09 STR which I absolutely love but always had a soft spot for ducati's and test rode the new 959 yesterday...and I have to say it wasn't light years ahead of the Triumph as I thought, in fact getting back on mine after the test ride it reminded just how incredible the street is! My question is with you having owned both, if you had to keep only one of them which would it be, as I don't know whether to take the plunge and get a 899/959 but it would mean having to sell the street! Apologies for the essay, another great vid, keep em' coming!

wtf? I easily get 180miles out of my 2013 Striple with a tank reasonably full (not up to the brim) without getting nervous. averaging at slightly over 5L/100km

I had a serious Tipping In problem on my Moto Guzzi Norge, and it was due to the profile of the Tyres I had fitted. Problem fixed when the Tyres were replaced. This may be the cause on the Street Triple,..Good Luck

As i understood what youve done there with the wording on what "you hate" about the Bike. I thought this is how it would have gone. But i wouldnt be honest if i didnt say id hoped to learn more of the negatives of perhaps why i should not buy the Triumph Street Triple R! Now im left and stuck wondering why I Should Buy The Bike? I have no motor bikes whatsoever and never owned one before although im an ex rider of dirt bikes from long ago and i did own a faire few of them. Im a fan of Cafe Bike's and would Really prefer to buy a Cafe Racer Bike but im at a loss of which one would be a good first time/all time purchase as ive learned that after the first year or so of riding ill want to upgrade to a faster/bigger bike id like to avaoid owning and buying multiple bikes. As i cant afford the space for more then one. Any Suggestions?

hi bud how do you find windblast? I'm only short but my fz6 leaves me with whiplash after 70miles of fast riding. seriously thinkimg of getting rid and getting one of these. the seats also becomes uncomfortable after say 30 miles

Im not surprised, you only managed 4 faults. I just put up a test ride of Striple Rx and the only faults i had were the plastic reservoirs and the suspension was hard as nails. i just wish i could afford one myself.

Great Video. A little advice, i recently passed my motorcycle test and now looking for a new bike, I am not to bothered about speed as i more of a adventure style person. Being new to biking i am looking for a great adventure bike, I have seen the CB500x / vstrom 650 XT. Now i know bmw do lower end adventure bikes but replacement part are upper end pricing. What recommendations would you say or anyone else in the comments. Fuel economy is a must as will also being using it for commuting. 120 mile round trip daily :(

The issue you mention with slow speed turn in, could that be something to do with the top heavy exhausts? From a fair few people Ive heard those exhausts really do affect handling.

TMF, I noticed that your handle bars are forward quite a bit, was that something that you set or is it still the factory settings, I only ask as maybe at low speeds with the bars forward one tends to be leaning forward a bit more as you go into a bend, which may ( or may not contribute to it feel like its falling into the corner).. just a thought keep up the vids always concise info :-)

Mine is a 2009 standard one so the brake reservoir thing doesn't apply but the only 'thing' I dislike is the lack of an oil sight glass window and having to use a dipstick instead :( How many miles have you covered on yours ? Ive done 32K in just over 3 years on mine.

I bought the 2016 ABS version and I can't fault it. My only gripe is that the stock mirrors are awful. Thankfully I have a pair off bar-end mirrors ordered :) Keep up the posts!

I have had 3 Sprint ST's ...my problem is ..I love them !! Magic engine and produces controlable power...been on the track and kicked a good few superbike arses !!

*#8* Ok so I thought I was the ONLY ONE who noticed the slow handling 'almost tip in' thing...Can anything be done to correct this maybe? Perhaps some sort of suspension adjustment?

Ai have a 2014 model and agree about the slow speed tip in. Overall though it's a perfect bike

What exhaust or exhaust mods do you have fellow 2012 street triple brother? I like the pops and crackles.

Hi could you tell me are they triumph bar end mirrors? how do you find them over the standard ones? I've recently bought a street triple r and the standard mirrors are not wide enough for me, cheers

When tank range came in at no10 I did think what's going to be no1!! The only thing I'd add to the list is ride quality but then mine isn't the r model so this might be improved on your bike.
