It has now been over 6 months since I took my 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 home, and I am finally through the excruciating 2000-mile break-in period. So I have been able to truly enjoy the car and for this video update, I'm going to take it out for a drive and talk about the 10 best things about owning this Porsche Cayman! Buckle up and come along for the ride.
For those of you who are lucky enough to also own a Porsche, what do you love about your car? Agree or disagree with my points? And for those of you watching who dream of owning one someday, what do you look forward to most about having one of your own? Let me know in the comments.
Special thanks to my friend Oleg (@olegator_performance) for sharing his dyno run video and photo.

Agree; 911 is huge. The compact size of the 718 feels right and the blue complements the design perfectly. The only weakness I feel is the sloping rear and needs the rear wing re GT4 to counterbalance that.

I have been thinking about finding a duckbill spoiler similar to the one on the GT4 and the Spyder... someone told me those won't fit though and I'd have to find an aftermarket version that resembles it but fits on the GTS.

I drive a 00 Boxster S. When I'm not driving it I'm thinking about driving it. I appreciate the view and your narrative. Thank you. All cars have that seatbelt feature. You'll begin to not enjoy it.

Thanks! Interesting, I know other cars will lock the seatbelt in a sudden stop but this is the first time I've noticed it working while you're cornering.

Great video. I have a 718 boxter s and 718 boxter gts 4.0. They sound dif but great. The S is peppier down low but wow the 4.0 is a monster at higher revs. S is light and can throw into corners. 4.0 is savage.
@86drive86

That's awesome, but I am curious why you would keep both Boxsters? Why not keep the 4.0 and try something else for the 2nd car?

your love for the car comes through loud and clear obviously got the ownership bias going on, 2 years into my gts 4.0 manual, but I don't think you can get a more enjoyable emotional driving experience in the current market than a 718 4.0 it's naturally aspirated flat six goodness brings a fizz turbos simply can't it's the right size and you can get a manual there's simply nothing else

I bought a 2024 GR Corolla. I get a lot of compliments and it's a lot of fun, but deep down I'm not truly satisfied. I want a Porsche. If I still feel this way in 6 months to a year, I'll buy a 718 or a 911. You got a really nice car man. Own those compliments!

Thanks man! The GRC is a great car too. A Porsche is wonderful but it costs so much more. Gotta chase your dreams though!

One of the things I don’t like about the car is the torque down low. It’s OK, not great. That’s why the long gearing especially in the lower gears isn’t good. You need to get out of those lower rpms ASAP. That’s why the Deman gears are so loved, but it is expensive, and it is a big process to have the work done. You should look at people complimenting the color of your car as them complimenting YOU on making a good choice. So they are complimenting you, and you should thank them for that. The shifter is OK, not great. If you really want to take it to the extreme, the numeric shifter is the most extreme. There are also complaints about the clutch wearing out too quickly, and people then upgrade to the Neinmeister clutch and lightened flywheel and rave about that, saying it “transforms” the car. The autoblip is nice because it may reduce wear on the clutch by matching the engine speed. When I am driving in a group at the extremes, the auto blip is nice so you don’t hold up the group making mistakes. Not the same level of driver engagement as rev matching by heel toe downshift, but still more engaging than shifting with paddles in my opinion.

I have the Boxster GTS 4.0 with PDK. I found the manual gearchange on this model to be one of the least enjoyable experiences ever in a Porsche. I could only compare it to that on my 2003 911 C4S and this one was just so disappointing.

Very impressive you made it the full 2000 miles! I read that the 2000 mile 4k limit is excessive and the result of lawyers, and that Porsche adheres to a shorter 1000 mile break in period on these cars. The first 300 miles are always the most important during break in.
@86drive86
@86drive86 Ай бұрын
It was tough to get through those 2000 miles, but I'm glad it's over! Since I had some weird issues at the beginning, I thought I had better stick to the prescribed break-in period to make sure my warranty was fully intact in case I run into any more issues further down the road.

Have you ever driven the PDK? I am on the fence.
@86drive86
@86drive86 2 ай бұрын
I have driven the 911 with PDK. It is quite good, one of the best "automatics" on the market today. As much as I like to say the manual is the more involving transmission, there are a lot of good reasons to choose the PDK. Get the PDK if: 1) you will spend a lot of time driving in stop-and-go traffic. 2) you care about the fastest 0-60 times or racetrack lap times. or 3) you want someone else in your family to drive it who can't drive manual.

The only thing worse in life than a man driving a Cayman is a man driving a Boxter. I write this from the heart as a long time 911 owner. It is worth the additional investment to jump into a 911....better resale value, better performance, better overall driving experience.
@86drive86
@86drive86 2 ай бұрын
I'm going to disagree with you there -- have you driven a Boxster or Cayman, especially the 4.0? Especially as compared to a modern 992 911, I think a Cayman GTS 4.0 has the 911 beat. You might be right about the resale value, but the performance and driving experience are better with the mid-engine car.

If the 911 didn't remind me so much of a VW Beetle then I might like them more, but those classic round headlights are just too old school bug looking.

@@COZNA They do have similar German origins. I respect your opinion. I will say, the Boxter with the right packages, can be a sharp looking P Car.

The only thing worse in life? Wow! As someone who has owned several 911s and just traded a 911 turbo for a cayman gts 4.0, I wholeheartedly disagree. The new 911s are huge, sterile feeling cars. 991 and prior are great. But I’d argue that the CGTS is among the best sports cars Porsche has ever produced. Many hardcore Porsche people agree.
