Inside Out perfectly illustrates emotional complexity and growing pains (Bing Bong being forgotten, Joy trying to hold on to Riley's core memories)

They should have ended the "Toy Story" franchise after the third movie, since Andy realising that he needs to grow up and leave his childhood, and by extension, his toys, was a perfect note to end the series on.

Please note that some of the traditional Fairy tales used by Disney were Charles Perrault (french author of the 18th century) tales, some of them being european traditional he wrote as books. At that time, in the aristocracy, marriage was a business matter : parents and families agreed to marry their children without their consent but to make alliances, reunite earth... . Charles Perrault was exception : he chose his wife, who also chose to marry him, and both loved each other (unfortunately she died young after giving birth..). Charles Perrault was a "modern", and also a sincere christian who wanted marriage to be a love issue and to respect women's body. So in his Sleeping beauty, there is no prince kissing the sleeping beauty : the Prince comes, and his looks at Aurora make her wake up, and they talk during hours before separation and, monthes after, getting married. Perrault's tales were very successful in aristocracy, but he was criticized and laught at because of the loving and happy image of marriage he proposes in all of his stories. So now in the 21th century we find this a bit naive, but at that time it was a political commitment into modernity and freedom.

As a child, i enjoyed the simplicity of the Disney movies. I loved that they lived happily ever after. Children should be allowed to enjoy their childhood. We Adts look at everything from a grown up perspective that children have nn understanding of. They know nothing of racism. I had a league of nations of friends as a child. Race and religion was never a problem. We were just kids having fun, enjoying ourselves. Adult spoil everything

As a child you never really understand these themes or like sometimes do I know for me I sometimes got them but there were some I never really understood I just lost in the animation. But when you reach adulthood you could relate to these things and sometimes feel what the characters were going through and list included the big ones.

I'm one of those people who doesn't have an issue with the crows from Dumbo. The reason is quite simple: while I understand as an adult why people saw those as really offensive stereotypes, due to being a 90s kids, I grew up hearing a lot of adults and other kids, all colours of the rainbow, talking like that from time to time. So, growing up, I didn't see anything wrong with the crows, and even now, as an adult, despite knowing exactly why people see the crows as offensive, I can't see them that way myself no matter how hard I try, because I grew up in an environment where I wasn't led to believe anyone talking that way was wrong.

Two not mentioned here I definitely noticed as I got older: Beauty and the Beast and Gaston as a s*xual predator with toxic masculinity issues before that term was even coined. Also a textbook narcissist. And HOND... misogyny, ablism, gaslighting/psychological abuse, racism (anti-Romani), genocide, complicated emotions, religious hypocrisy and abuse of power and authority... it's got a lot packed in there for one little Disney animated film.

@@LINDAJOHNSON-qn5pkI think the point is as a child you wouldn’t have any understanding of miscarriage - you understand that they got married, got old, she got sick & died but you wouldn’t understand the rest of it. The complexities of miscarriage/not being able to conceive, the utter devastation of losing your life partner & the fear of being left facing the rest of your life alone etc is too much for a child to understand & rightly so.

The crows in Dumbo are not a racist trope. Other than his mother and one other, these are the only people in the whole movie who care about Dumbo before he becomes famous. They may be caricatures. But they are heroes. They are not presented negatively. Along with Timothy the mouse and Dumbo's mother, they are the best examples of virtue in the entire movie.

Tbh, I've been hearing that "this is that" and "that is wrong" that I begin to question so many things I enjoy, and it bugs me. Like, I understand that saying things like "...Of your background" to anyone, though especially a person of color, like they did in Princess and the Frog is wrong...But I can't help but wonder if Dr. Facilier would be deemed a racial stereotype due to how they styled him, or how he does voodoo, or...I just don't know. Personally, I enjoy Facilier's character and design, so I will still love him for that. I just always fear that if I like him for whatever reason would make people think I'm also racist for doing so...I mean, I don't really care what people think about me, as I don't see my reasons for liking him as anything but being a typical fangirl (like, quality animation, honestly love his outfit and how classy he is, etc), but it still sticks in the back of my mind - if I said I really loved him as a character in real life, would people think wrongly of me? Tbh, I feel like I'm overthinking it, and honestly, screw what people think about me just because I like a character for being charismatic...But eh. It's just a thought that always lingers when I get super into media. Plus co-workers (including those of color) were okay with me liking him as is, so I guess he/I wouldn't be deemed as racist.

I don't quite get how The Song of the South is racist. Uncle Remus is the noblest and most respected character in the film. The actor playing him won an honorary Oscars for best actor. The Remus stories (with lessons to be learned and hilariously told) were passed down from generations of slaves. But, there were no slaves in the movie (which took place during Reconstruction). Former slaves sometimes stayed on the farms of their former"masters" as free sharecroppers. Not ideal but better than enslavement or having no job. And Walt Disney himself was not a racist. Any vestigial racism in the film, probably due to the time and culture in which it was made, can be addressed with pre-opening credit notices.
