I would love to visit the Motown Museum as I've seen some of the bands on the label live and I would like to stand where they stood. Seems to have recovered a city from the terrible time when it went broke. Still love your videos and your lovely smiles.

I went to Detroit twice and the second time I went my mother and I volunteered with the greening of Detroit to help plant trees in this distressed neighborhood of 7 mile road. We enjoyed our visit and checked out downtown which is probably my favorite downtown in any city i visited in the US. Sadly, My mother, Edith Maria Johnson passed away from Bile Duct Cancer last Tuesday night and she was only 70. I was reminiscing our time together when I looked at picture of us at the Detroit International Riverfront. When I have the time, I’m going back to the 313 to check out the city and volunteer to honor my mom! RIP mom

I'm really sorry to hear that your mom has passed. Sending love and strength to you and your family. ❤️ What a great thing you two did together planting trees in Detroit. That's a great legacy to leave that will continue to grow for years to come. I hope you'll be able to return to the city to honour your mom, as you say. WONDERFUL to finally read a very positive story and acknowledgement of my beautiful Detroit. While she remains imperfect, she and the people of Detroit share a glorious story of Redemption, economic survival and cultural faith. I had been frustrated by efforts to brand Detroit as a deep tragedy of crime, Black shame and a dashed hope of how past racism was a good thing. This program also provides powerful edit on Detroit's past, present and future contributions. Thank you!

I admire and appreciate your enthusiasm for "America's Great Comeback City," Detroit. I moved here about 3 years ago and I've fallen in love with the city: from the history to the potential, I'm excited for more to see it for themselves. I didn't know some of these places you mentioned so I definitely learned something new. I was actually in the Book Tower within the last couple of months and even took a picture of the replica tower but didn't realize there was a whole room with a history lesson. Can anyone go in there and is there just a door I missed lol? I would love to explore whatever parts of these buildings are open to the public. The Fisher Building is another cool one with Pure Detroit gift shop and is a theatre just down the street from the Motown Museum. Detroit is rapidly changing as well so there are some things being built that are not here today but will be in the coming months or years like the completion of the Joe Louis Greenway, Ralph Wilson Centennial Park, Gordie Howe International Bridge, Hudson's Detroit(GM is moving their hq to what will be the 2nd tallest building in the state behind current hq GM Renaissance Center), and my favorite the reopening of the abandoned Michigan Central Station in June. You might also like the Mbad African Bead Museum where you can buy necklaces and whatnot some of which are actually from Africa and a secret activity of kayaking through the Venice like canals of the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood. I really want to do this but there are 1 or 2 companies that do group excursions for a couple hours around $50/person if I remember correctly.

Wow, thank you for your wonderful comment and for sharing this great information as well. I'm making a list of things I want to do on future trips to the city. Am really looking forward to the station being open in June! A lot to look forward to for sure. As for the Book Tower, yes, anyone can go and look inside the historic exhibition. It's across from the main reception desk under the glass dome. Near the elevators and glass-walled kitchen prep area. Take a look next time! We also just posted a new video about food and drink in Detroit and I'd love to hear your thoughts. It's here: bit.ly/detroitfoodie Please let us know any recommendations you'd add :)

I was also glad to see all the love we got from the NFL draft this past weekend. The city is rockin' right now although some of us already knew all the fun that can be had here. 😂 I'm not a foodie so I'm sure I'll learn a lot from your food video but my guesses are a Coney dog, pizza, and Mexican food. Then Dearborn has the middle eastern along Warren Ave

As a teenager living in Windsor, Riverside dances was the practice venue for Motown groups to try out their routines. I saw a 12 year old Stevie Wonder performing to a very small venue and we got to see him up close. Many other Motown groups sang here on Saturday nights, entertaining all kids who never knew what stars these groups were to become. These a very fond memories of mine and nobody talks about them. We also would go to Detroit to witness the Motown Revue, everyone was there, all day, group after group, the Temptations, everyone. Loved it so much.

I don’t live in Windsor anymore but I have such a bunch of stories about Detroit and stories about my Mum and sister and I shopping, working, and socializing. Also different situations crossing through customs, bridge and tunnel. Also, Im so old that before OHIP, the medical system we have now, I went to a special doctor in Detroit, paying as we went and how my Mum made that into an adventure every time to ease the anxiety of my procedures. Great memories that will live with me forever.

Originally from Chicago grew up and raised, went to school and played ball in Ann Arbor... Detroit as a city was the victim of an ideological attack. And it's ended up succumbing to it, now trying to raise itself out of its own ashes it's not going to work, gentrification hasn't worked anywhere else any sanctuary State including Southern California where I live now is serving anyone well. Detroit is going to have to innovate, because that's what put it on the map in the first place if it's going to survive..

I googled the ballroom and it looked really cool. Maybe it'll be brought back to life someday? Do you have any current favourite spots? We made another video about food and drink in Detroit too...: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)

My friend from Detroit always refers to it as De Twah. Is that a thing?

I believe that it is a thing. Sounding out the french pronunciation. It is spelled Detroit with an accent mark over the (e). :-)

I've heard that before but will leave it to other Detroiters to comment :)

I agree with you that the Motown Museum is a must-see, but don't forget about the Detroit Zoo! It was the first zoo in the country to have open air exhibits for the animals, instead of cages. The landscaping on the grounds is great too.

I wish that the detroit you showed was indeed a city for all the people of Detroit, but it is for a small white minority. It is a shining example of American apartheid.
