A very informative video. We chose a sub 6m van (majestic 135) because we wanted to go on day trips and park her easily. We have never had a problem. I liked the look of your van but I could not do without the choice of electric/gas hobs. We have 4 travel seats but only 3 beds so use an awning when our adult children join us. I look forward to watching more videos when we can get out and about. Gill

I must admit I was a bit anxious about watching this vlog, but it wasn't so bad. Some of the issues you raise are more relevant to family motorhoming but there's just the two of us. Other issues can be worked around. We intend to upgrade the USB port at some point and we bought a single induction hob from asda for twenty quid to use when were on hook up if needed. Have yet to see if we get too hot in the van, will let you know when we're let out to play again. Great vlog though Paul, you always make me chuckle. Look forward to the next one 🙂

It would have been helpful for the ones who don't know the type of mobile home you're referring to... if you had showed us a quick video of the exterior and the interior of it.. this way we could a face to each complaint.. a specially the bed and dining configuration at a minimum.. you did a great of explaining everything and also shown us the tv bracket, the overhead shelving and the waste release piping.. I guess I will watch some more of your videos to see some pictures of the whole thing.. Thanks for posting..

Hi. To show how opinions vary. We have a 7.2m but have just ordered a 7.4, love the space. The kitchen has little function as we live on salad with cold meat, type of element is no consequence. Our current Moho came with 5 USB points and we added 2 more, your right, there can't be too many of these. Oh the TV bracket, solved by reading and a pack of cards, the joy of being away is leaving all the TV nonsense behind. Lastly the cassette, carry 2, then swap them over and empty the full one prior to departure, it also extends your wild camping ability by days.
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yes they do. Real good points in your comment. We do kind of agree about the tv although poor reception at some sites means we revert to alternative entertainment anyway. With one USB in the hab area it feels a little “tight fisted” of Roller Team. Space definitely has some advantages and we would certainly never suggest the contrary but for us we enjoy the sub 6 metre home even if some additional compromises have to be made. Thanks for watching and your comments.

I bought a 1998 boxer last month. Not a single usb socket in sight. But no worries as l intend to rewire the 12v system & include several usb sockets + 12v sockets capable of 60 amps. I am a radio ham so any existing sockets wouldn't cope with my power drain. Even in a brand new van. Same regarding any additional cupboards. I will simply install what l need. If you buy a brand new van l have no doubt that you can simply pay to have it adapted to your needs. I also intend to fit 600w solar + a bank of AGM batteries. Much more capacity than a new van would come with. So the problems are easy to address. Fit out your van to suit your needs. If you lack the skills or the time, then you pay people to do it for you. Regardless of how the designers fit out a van, it's not going to suit everyone. So take your needs into consideration when choosing it, or.......
@LiveforTravel

Yes it is great when you are able to modify your van yourself. I would be the person who ends up paying for someone else to fit whatever it is we want. We are still very happy with the van but decided to balance the “Top 10 things we like” video with 10 that we don’t. Thanks for your comments.

Brilliant another informative vlog I have just orderd one of those flexible hoses as we done our first outing in our motor home the weekend and we noticed the grey waste drain was raised higher than we could get to so had to get a bowl empty it into that then empty it in waste drain bit of mission but we got by looking on ordering a waste master now for these times we may need one wasn’t full success on our first outing came down tight lane went to pull my mirror in as white van man wasn’t slowing down or even tempting to bang mirror ruined was devestated had to buy whole new mirror casing and have now invested in the mirror caps too to protect them still gutted now but it’s happened so gotta Move on from it 👍🏽👍🏽

Alternative to a cassette style WC. Look up “Cinderella” Combusting toilet. What seems very expensive if you do the maths is really not so expensive over time. No water No chemicals Runs on gas & electric. Reduces waste to inert ash that is safe to put in domestic rubbish. No dragging a cassette across a campsite in the middle of a thunderstorm at night!, I have mobility issues so a no brained but they have been using this sort of thing in forest / island holiday cabins etc for years. You have a rear bathroom which should give space to fit one if you were so inclined I would put this ahead of air on as an extra expense.

Yes I do the same as yourself taking the mirror in on tight roads, as long as you have a working rear view camera. I once smashed my drivers wing mirror (not my fault your honour ) cost £190 for new unit. So I will take my chances with the authorities if it arises.

Surely the mirrors are your guide... I would sooner hit a £500 mirror than rip the side out of the van. I agree about the size.. comes as a bit of a shock to some. NO 1 tip .. ALWAYS try before you buy... its a bit too late when you spend 50k and then find its too big for you. Fit a Maxxfan for much better airflow too...
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 3 жыл бұрын
We do not fold the mirror on the near side. The off side mirror we fold on narrow roads for a short time. As the roads we fold it on are narrow, no one is likely to be passing and I have found I don’t need it. Would agree about the “try before buy” although of course we absolutely love our van as discussed in the “Top 10 things we like” video. No van is perfect and the compromises on ours is minimal. We will look into the Maxxfan you suggested.

Yes your mirrors pass the gap & the rest will go through. You fold one in & it passes the gap & the rest behind you gets torn off. I once drove 7.5T lorries. And my mirrors hit another lorries mirrors. His mirrors smashed, mine folded back....... But l reacted & swerved before the backend hit his vehicle. Nope, l won't be folding in my mirrors. Covered many thousands of miles driving lorries from England to Scotland, Scotland to England then over again & again. My mirrors will stay out.

@@ril-eq3vp on our particular van, with the mirrors folded in, the overall width is about the same as the habitation part. I to used to drive 7.5 tonne long wheel base Cargo’s, have driven most size of vehicles from the Cargo to a Smart car, driven for over 25 years, over 1 million miles and passed the Advanced Driving Test but I am happy to fold the one mirror in on those occasions. Happy to have a different opinion and thanks again for your comments.

Refreshing to see a negative list for a change. Regarding the TV bracket, would a tennis ball with a slit cut into it work? Small but also highly visible. We used this trick on our VW camper sliding door, so that it wouldn't rip the awning.

We thought it right to highlight some of the not so positive things with the van. The tennis ball idea is great. A cheap and visible item which, if we still walk into it, won’t hurt so much. Thanks for watching and your suggestion.

Very good video, it really shows how, whatever you choose, there will need to be some compromises. I quite enjoy finding solutions to these issues.The waste pipe design is poor but you have found a good fix, the same can be done for other things on your list e.g. air con is expensive & heavy, why not just take an electric fan to get air flow when it's really needed? Finally the electric hob option, if you are concerned about running out of gas or having a cooker failure(?) buy a two ring camping gas stove, light and inexpensive (£20 Inc 4 refills on amazon). My wife has used 1 for "overflow" cooking at Christmas for years and putting one in the motorhome is a no-brainer :-) Enjoy 😎

Recently subscribed and this is a great channel. I have a question for you if I may. We owned a caravan a few years ago and recently purchased a self-built campervan. We wanted to upgrade and we’ve seen a rather cheeky Roller Team T590 at our local dealership in North Yorkshire. Ticks all the boxes for our needs and we’re very tempted to buy. However there is one question that we don’t seem to have seen answered in your vids. It’s fresh water. We’ve seen the big red screw thing on top of the water tank. We know that we can fill up at home or indeed the camp site. But, if you needed to replenish the water without driving round the campsite again, can this be done while still hooked-up. In the ‘olden days’ we were able to take our aqua roll and top up. Is there a similar method we could use for the T590. Many thanks. Dave
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. We have never used an Aqua Roll as we just fill using a food grade hose either before leaving or on site. As you will know there are adapters for fitting on the external filler but we never found one that fitted the 590. We typically leave the hose placed far enough into the external filler so that, on low pressure, it stays in situ until the tank is full a few minutes later. All the best with whichever van you choose.

Well I do love Italy. I think, as with all manufacturers, it comes down to cost. A bit like the shower area. They could have lined it nicer but didn’t. Still love the van though and I guess everyone finds niggles with something it just comes back to what compromises. Many thanks for your continued support.

Drove a bus with video mirrors. They react oddly at night and they do break. I prefer standard mirrors. You can make toilet last longer by peeing into a bottle and then emptying that into a public toilet. Not great but lengthens time to empty..

@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 6 ай бұрын
Road tax is based on years too. Our van is subject to the ‘over £40k when new’ tax that was introduced in September 2019 and revoked in the budget March 2020. As there was no backdate to the change, vehicles registered between those dates incur a high tax for the first 5 years and revert to their ‘correct’ level on year 6.

@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrWardnine your question might require more than a comment as a answer. First, when we discuss an awning do you mean simply a wind out awning as per your suggestion in your comment or a fully enclosed design? For us, if we want extra space that would require a fully enclosed awning. That is our opinion and not one that everyone else needs to agree with. A fully enclosed awning requires a lot of set up. I know this as I have watched and discussed with people as they set them up. We have not yet found the need for the “extra space” you highlight and as such, again, this is down to personal choice. You are naturally not obliged to agree with this and that is fine. Second, if you do simply mean a “wind out” awning then of course they are much easier to use and your comment regards not using on windy days is one of those occasions that it would not be wound out. We (our opinion) do not count a wind out awning as extra space. Cover from the sun yes; but extra space? Not in our opinion. Finally, which brings the discussion right back to the start, is one of cost. A quality awning; just the “wind out one” is expensive. I cannot speak for Motorhome manufacturers but generally speaking, for everything, there is a cost and it is in their interest to offer accessories at an additional cost. It’s a good business model. We hope you found this answer more helpful. We enjoy a fast growing following of viewers that give us feedback and suggestions both in the comments and by email and it is that feedback that drives us. Your comment (name redacted) will be the driver for a future video on the subject so thank you for the original question.
