There will be part 2?? The 1st part is not convincing. Rush to remove the subsidies on egg, chicken, diesel and even petrol, will hit the economy hard. Removing subsidies should be the way to move forward..but not everything at 1 go..start with egg and chicken. Once the people start to adapt to the price change, go with 2nd stage. At the moment, expect massive spike in prices in near term.

As mentioned earlier, I suggested that if we were to maintain the GST, as it was in 2018, we might not encounter the problems we face today, such as heavy reliance on Petronas or large factories potentially evading taxes through the SST system. I'm not implying that I support Najib, but if a policy is beneficial for the country, why not work together for the common good? But, what can we do? Most politicians in Malaysia are just thinking about their own stomachs and power.

Here are my two cents' suggestions. Our government sometimes really doesn't have the balls to do proper enforcement. 1. We will be observing some increase in cost-of-living next year for sure especially in food or even over daily groceries. There are of course business owners will find excuse to increase the prices to maintain the margin of profit to cover the cost of paying the extra taxes which have no direct impact to their business. (I increase my food prices to cover up the extra tax I need to pay for a new Velphire). When questioned about the increase in food prices, they will push the blame to the supplier and the government for those taxes and removal of subsidy. Authorities are not stern enough to enforce actions when it is confirmed that the increase in prices doesn't justify. Authorities should monitor the prices of the items in the market and give instruction and order to reduce the price if the increase in price is not justifiable. Price should also be reduced when the global fuel prices dropped, or our currency improved. Currently, we already observed that business will increase the price whenever currency getting weaker or diesel price increases but doesn't reduce the price when currency getting stronger and diesel price decreases. However, the catch is that they will increase the price again if the next wave of fuel price increase / currency growing weaker against USD. The enforcement should be business owners that are not willing to do so, will be forced to give them away to eligible business owners that are very happy to do so. Government will forcefully close their business together with their business current account. This will ensure that everyone will be doing honest business. Actions should also be taken against sellers/ business owners that mark up the price then later only provide discounts after that. I not sure if this violates the principle of Syriah. If I am the government, I will instruct the business owners to provide discount based on the average market price instead of the mark-up price. E-comerce platform should be instructed not ensure discounts are legit discounts. Government should step in to ensure that job opportunities are prioritized to local first before out-sourcing it to lower cost countries like India and Vietnam. I can observe that there are laid off of some job roles in high-cost countries like Singapore and such roles are heavily advertised in Malaysia, India and Vietnam. There are also some companies in Malaysia actually out-sourced jobs to lower cost countries like India. Government should step in to ensure that out-sourcing or hiring from lower cost countries are at the last resort. Tax should also be applied on the cost saved and ensure that they are really being channeled to employee welfare locally (like in Malaysia). I know that government has convinced ISP to reduce the price of Internet packages. However, I believed that it can be further reduced. I not sure if government is blind or what, the current reduced price were actually the existing promo prices that were advertised some time ago. Hence, there's technically no reduction of internet prices. This is what we call a real reduction. The price for internet only packages should start with RM 89 with at least 500 Mbps and to be capped at less than RM 269 for 2Gbps. B40 families to be able to subscribe internet services with minimum speed of 100 Mbps at price of RM 49. All home equipped with fiber ports /LAN ports should be automatically connected to internet with shared bandwidth up to 30 Mbps on non-peak hour. All newly build PPR should have fiber ports and LAN ports. This is only called affordable internet connection and able to ensure that everyone has access to internet. If I am politician or the government, I will implement all these. Want to sleep already. Can only write up to here.

Budget sounds rosy but I have high doubts about some. 1) chicken and egg price ceiling removed. Prices will start to skyrocket again because the global environment didn’t change. Corn prices are still high so chicken feed is going to be expensive. Prices of chickens under the price ceiling have been artificially suppressed and not reflecting the true cost to breed chickens. So I expect chicken and egg prices to skyrocket again. 2) luxury tax- who does this actually benefit? The foreigners! With this tax, you are further driving the rich locals away to buy overseas. This results in a net loss because the rich locals could be paying SST 8% but now 0 because they will not be buying locally. 3) capital gain taxes- while I think this is a innovative idea to tax on the sale of a private limited, it is extremely difficult to prove what the company is worth during the incorporation. Do they based it off the paid capital when it was incorporated?

Usually this is for those accountant to value the unlisted shares, I noted from SME, they start to invest in their related companies means companies with same Director. So if profit increased from one company and you bought it at cost, your company will gain profit, so you actually gain from investment in related company, so you are tax for it. The purpose of investment is give capital to the related company. I don’t have many client with these investment in related companies but many in KL do. So beware. Businessman are smart

Understand it properly, the government does not increase the tax on FnB and they remove the price ceiling of chicken and egg. Meaning that the price is fully up to the seller whether they want to increase it or not based on their investment, thus this will create a new competition and flexible market where if they want to sell more products they need to lower the prices, or if they believe their product has high quality they will sell it to the consumers who can afford it.The main problem you should concern is the quality of the food, if they decided to sell cheap will the seller reduce the quality or not to compensate with the price? . However If you want cheap and quality stuff maybe you should find a local farmer that can supply you with reasonable prices don't buy it at grocery stores ,buying from them is much cheaper and safer than big grocery stores. Because of this you should blame it on the seller if the prices are hiked up, don't blame the government. Blame them for not controlling the prices not the increase of prices.

Chicken and eggs prices will immediately goes up, the theoretical "competition drives down price" will not happen. The only reason the subsidy is withdrawn is solely because the government can no longer afford it, they have no other choices - they can't withdraw petrol subsidy without triggering immediate inflation, and they can't implement GST without triggering mass unrest. If this help bring down debt-to-GDP ratio, perhaps it could strengthen Ringgit's value in the medium term, bringing down overall cost of living (We import LOTS of stuff). BUT, cutting subsidy for chicken and eggs is NOT enough to restore our nation fiscal health, many leaders know that, but no one has the political strength & will to go for the biggest culprit - petrol subsidy

It's a boring budget but still focuses on helping the needy whilst remaining business friendly. To me, a good thing at least from a "national perspective" is that fiscal deficit would be reduced which is very important for a country's sustainability. Malaysia budget deficit today is 5% thanks to useless, selfish, couldn't care less attitude and greedy govt in the past. PHBN aims to reduce fiscal deficit to 3% next few years, that, I agree because this will positively affect the currency strength too.

Middle classes not get any form of help = they are most affected. Middle classes heading to the downward spiral to less disposable income . Can't blame CV19. Every person, every country have to face it. Some already pulled through. The main concern here is the real estate market which also impacted households as well as businesses, that's the real deal. Food prices here also don't reflect healthy competition or democracy. It operates more like a syndicate. Probably Syed Bukhary is a prime example. Legally he's correct, but in practice it's killing businesses

Couldn't agree more. After 2024 budget was announced. The first thing that crossed my mind was to make extra savings and less spending. Idk what else think. But how it's gonna help our domestic spending & sustainability? They're doing this for the sake of the upper class not the middle class and lower. Aren't they concerned that whatever happens to the lower class will eventually affect the money and finance distribution? Its only temporary relief because they are not the one who will effect first.

Inflation hurts the poor proportionately more than the rich. By reducing subsidies and distributing the 'savings' to the less fortunate, the B40 group could be protected from price increases whereas the M40 group are largely left to fend for themselves. When the government tries to solve the inequality problem, naturally, the 'rich' feels worse off than the poor. Just hope that the 'rich' won't sabotage this policy which should enhance stability and bring better economic growth that should benefit everyone in the long run. Running a clean government would cushion the effects of inflation on the M40. It's a no brainer for people to vote for a clean government. As demonstrated by the PH government in Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan, PH is not only clean but competent.

I think Malaysians need to wake up to certain facts: 1. There is no country/society in the modern world that has achieved developed country status with racial discrimination against 1/3 of population institutionalised in a country's constitution. You can try to name me just ONE country... 2) Economic growth does not arise solely from economic policies. The societal and cultural values need to want and support economic growth. If the desire for economic growth is subservient to many other cultural and societal issues the economic growth will be exactly reflective of the low priority it is accorded. Like India and its caste system, MY will never become a developed economy unless it reforms its societal and cultural contracts.
