How have the martial arts on "Walker: Texas Ranger" dated badly? They're not special effects. They're human feats that basically haven't changed in hundreds or even thousands of years. The meanings of words change over time. "Classic" used to literally mean something from ancient Greece or Rome. Now it's just a classier way of saying "retro." I don't like these re-definitions ("socialism," "racism," "liberal," etc.), but there's no stopping them.
@conniethesconnie
@conniethesconnie 4 жыл бұрын
Classic has always broadly referred to items that are timeless, and hold their value despite being old. The notion that it referred to Greek and Roman was just because those are ancient era's which have many different segments that are still viewed in a favorable light especially when it comes to various works of art such as building , statues, plays and stories.

The Twilight Zone, I Love Lucy, Twin Peaks, Seinfeld, Star Trek, Freaks and Geeks, Fawlty Towers, and All in the Family are all examples of shows that people still love to this day because they were ahead of their time and/or transcended the boundaries of time. Spielberg's film was even originally a TV movie and it's still beloved. The shows in this video were very cheesy and not well directed or written. Damn I love the wholesome, fun, optimism and camp of the 1960's. Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie, The Munsters, The Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island. Mindless escapism. Simplistic characters and plots, no running plot lines, just lie down pull up a random episode and be able to enjoy it without having to worry about knowing the plot up to that point. Why can't we have a show we can watch without having to dedicate a weekend to binge watching it?
@MUSICLOVER23429
@MUSICLOVER23429 3 жыл бұрын
Funny enough my favorite show of all time is Deadwood. On the one hand it's certainly a grim, dark, and many a times depressing show, but on the flip side I find it one of the few shows that also manages to use it's darkness to make the light all the more brighter and be unironically optimistic. Case and point: the death of William Bullock. The death of Sheriff Seth Bullock's nephew/step son was very sad and tragic, but on the flip side it brought Seth and Martha Bullock closer together (as they were only married as a means to Seth taking care of his brother's widow and son), and more importantly is caused the whole town (and we're talking about and old west town full of rowdy and vulgar people) to come together as a community to show their deepest sympathies to the grieving parents, showing that even in some very wayward and rough people there is decency, humanity, and a sense of community. To me it's sad that most grim dark shows just use the idea of "realism" as a means to tell cynicism, when honestly you can actually get some very optimistic stories out of dark subject matter. But yeah, I do miss fun and optimism in television. I think the worst offender has to be modern Star Trek i that regard.

Interesting that anything prior to 1980 didn't make the list. There is plenty from the 1070's that could join this list. Ever tried watching an episode of Archie Bunker, Sanford and Son, Welcome Back Cotter, or Laverne and Shirley? Not every show from that era had characters and jokes that still hold up like Mary Tyler Moore or Happy Days. And what about the superhero shows from era, Wonder Woman, The Hulk, Shazam, Isis? A third of each episode was reshowing the same stock footage of them transitioning into their superhero form. .

It’s part of the reason I don’t like “ET” and “Die Hard”, since so many movies have ripped off these films, making it hard for me to imagine the two as being “innovative for their time”.

@@ramon3960 Hence the words "pending a guilty verdict". The last time I checked, Loughlin chose to plead *not* guilty, meaning a jury will decide her fate. Unlike Felicity Huffman, who *chose* to plead guilty, and will hopefully serve her very cushy 14-day sentence in its entirety. As for the subject, all the actions, alleged or otherwise simply flew in the faces of each show's reputation of wholesomeness. Loughlin's actions, while against the law, were ultimately not surprising.

How the hell can a show like Baywatch ever be outdated? That's impossible.

I loved full house as a kid but u can’t argue that it seems extremely corny today and that style of sitcom is often parodied

@@karatefella They did that every episode. Have the montage where they are building some sort of tank. Cut to the bad guys getting ready for the final stage of their evil plan only to have the A-team come busting through some gate or wall at the last minute. They used guns but it was made clear that they were always aiming to miss and not hurt anyone, this doesn't explain why the bad guys or the army squad that was chasing them were never able to actually make a shot.

Most of these shows may have aged badly, but many are iconic, and will be remembered long after a lot of the reality show trash that is on these days.

For me the old shows are still the best. Only because today's TV shows are so crap now days. Shows like Knightrider and The A Team are still enjoyable to watch.

I like 90's cheese... a local tv station is running a marathon of Walker Texas ranger and for some reason i can't stop watching it. Plus i heard it's getting a reboot soon.

Baywatch, Walker, Magnum, Knight Rider are still great shows - way better than the majority of trashy crap these days.

@irina1296 The way I would put it is that those shows were way better when they came out and still good to some of us older folk even if they are not considered classics today. On the other hand, a lot of shows coming out today are already cringy as heck. I wont mention any of those shows by name but I will say holy gender flop batman and Alan Harper as a criminal mastermind? Still Jon Cryer is way more convincing in that role than Jesse Eisenberg.

@irina1296 You're right. There's a reason the shows on the list each lasted for so many seasons, while most shows today are lucky to last for more than a couple.

They have a Baywatch channel on Pluto TV. It is a show to watch when you want to just want to sit down and relax when you are in a just trying to not take things and life too seriously. It is just fun to watch

Its amazing how the sexual assault allegations of Bill Cosby was brought up as a reason why the Cosby Show aged badly but there was ABSOLUTELY no mention of the Pedophilia allegations brought up against the dad from 7th heaven. Both deplorable. Both causes of each show aging badly. Both worth mentioning.
