For this list, we’re looking back at some of our favorite educators at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - hailing from BEFORE and DURING Harry Potter’s school days. While some of their teaching methods are… questionable, they’ve each stood out in some way by making their own iconic contributions. We’ll only be covering the professors that actually had TENURE at Hogwarts, so Mad-Eye Moody is ruled out since he was never really there. Also, if you haven’t been paying attention in their classes, there WILL be spoilers.

Many thanks for placing the magnificent Minerva McGonagall at the top of this list! Despite seeming stern and old fashioned at first glance, she's got a heart of gold and an incredible strength about her that proves that she's not to be underestimated in the slightest. The choice of Maggie Smith was simply superb casting.

Snape is one of the most complex characters in the series, he is so brave. I feel very bad for him because he was almost blinded by love in his hogwarts years, then James potter comes along and Lily, Snapes love ❤️. Then Lily and James get married and Snape would love revenge so he shows hatred to Harry, but has saved him from death many, many times, until the very end. You will be missed Severus Snape And Alan Rickman Many they both rest in peace 💚🖤❤️💛

If you really think about it, Barty Crouch (disguised as Moody) was actually a great teacher. He taught everyone about the unforgivable curses and taught Harry some really useful spells for the Triwizard Tournament. It was actually really valuable skills and knowledge for the rest of the series.

She never stops supporting her students, she is stern, yet not without compassion, she asks for and gives respect to people regardless of social standing, she stands up to injustice when she sees it, and she clearly cares about others. Yeah, that last one is technically a repeat, but most teachers don't stay in that job for the money. Plus, a lot of points go to her for being the one teacher out of all those who teach the classes that are a part of the required curriculum that Harry actually respects and kind of views as a grandmother-figure. Throwing around dangerous curses that're punishable by law at McGonagall just for spitting at her kinda shows what I mean.

Madam Hooch is pretty forgettable, she was only in one movie and had a very minor role in the books. Umbridge should be on here instead, I know everyone hated her but that’s the point.

Timekeeper043 unforgettable doesn’t mean favourite, unforgettable means exactly that -memorable. So in this case it’s the Professors who left a good OR bad impact on the students, the other staff and the readers/viewers of the Harry Potter series. Umbridge tortured Harry and punished other students and therefore had a big impact, yes we all hate her so that’s exactly what makes her unforgettable.

It is just hard not to love McGonagall. She's lowkey about it, but she's a badass powerful witch. Yet she has such a kind and noble heart. While she's very stern, she actually also has a great sense of humor. She's just so interesting and cool. Loved her appearances when reading the book. And Maggie Smith is just made for this role.

Harry should’ve gotten a spot on this list! Yes, he was never officially a teacher, but in Order of the Phoenix he was the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher everybody needed with Dumbledore’s army. After Hogwarts, the Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher invited Harry to come to Hogwarts again every year to teach the students as he was the head of the Auror department (he caught dark wizards)

This may seem bad of me, but the Professors were some of my favorite characters in the books, rather than the characters that were supposed to represent people my age, especially McGonagall, Dumbledore, Lupin, and Flitwick (and Snape in retrospect, as I didn't like him until I found where his true loyalties lay, for the reasons you listed). Then again, I was always more of a little scholar rather than a kid at play, so being attracted to knowledgable people was to be expected.

The rank from best to worst Hogwarts professors in my opinion are: Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, Minerva McGonagall, Rubeus Hagrid, Horace Slughorn, Barty Crouch Junior, Filius Flitwick, Pomona Sprout, Sybill Trelawney, Quirinus Quirrell, Rolanda Hooch, Gilderoy Lockhart, Dolores Umbridge, Amycus and Alecto Carrow.

For specifically unforgettable professors, Umbridge should have been given an Honorable Mention, however dishonorable she may have been. She’s agreed by most of community as the worst, most evil character in the series, and her tenure at Hogwarts cannot be forgotten, no matter how much we might wish it.

I thought they would put 3: Snape 2:McGonagall 1:Dumbledore... But really happy how this list turned out. Though Albus was one of the greatest wizards he was not totally flawless, and on another level its total reckless of him to send a 11 year boy out to fight the greatest evils of all time- Voldemort - nevertheless he is the actual example of how a person can learn from ones mistakes and help others to grow. Love him. Snape cannot be justified or wronged at the same time... He was a total bully and the least likely to be found a student's anticipation of what a teacher should be. Despite all his issues and detest for Harry, he did stand by his word and protected him. So happy a witch made the top of the list. She is just the ideal professor on all levels- impartial, just and charismatic. Reminds many of us of our own teachers

McGonagall is not entirely impartial. She's actually quite fond of Harry, even defying Umbridge to her face in book 5 when McGonagall shows support for Harry's ambition to become an Auror, even proclaiming she'd help him get there however she could.

Snape deserves to be #1. McGonagall is cool, but c’mon! Snape /died to protect his students./ She does also show favouritism towards Gryffindor. Not as severely as Snape, but she does routinely perform mental gymnastics to spare Gryffindor from losing the House Cup, same as Dumbledore tbh. At least Snape is obvious about his contempt for others. And he did kind of have to be mean to Harry to protect him. It may have also looked weird if he only dug into Harry, so I assume he was generally unpleasant to throw suspicions off but also obviously because children remind him of his own unhappy childhood.

Even though Mcgonagall is the head of my house 🦁😍❤ I prefer Snape cause he is much more mysterious even though he is the head of my least favourite house 🐍😠
