It’s funny how negates ALWAYS existed within the game, despite people assuming they’re a recent idea, and they were always on boss monsters BUT they used to be so unachievable to summon they never really saw play. It was only down the line when the extra deck became an open toolbox for such mons, but it was interesting to see they were originally testing these via main deck monster mechanics in the beginning

I remember on Pojo ExMinion had a simple philosophy: the more difficult it is to summon a Monster, the more badass the effect it should be.

Fun fact, when I was a kid I actually had a Sorcerer of Dark Magic in my deck. Being a Yugi fan can make these things happen hahaha. I was actually able to summon it once. I remember a friend of mine even recorded the situation. I was able to deal real damage to my opponent, but he drew a Tribute to the Doomed on his next turn. Emotional damage...

Happy to say I’ve summoned Gate Guardian on DB and in paper at locals and have won games with it Dark sage I’ve summoned a couple times, think only one once on DB And Exodia Necross a couple times, winning just once with it on DB Even put three blue eyes shining in a mega high roll reasoning gate deck with bunch of light/darks that can’t be normal summoned/set, a chaos necromancer, dmoc and bls/sorcs lol

My buddy had a sick Mirage Knight deck until Magical Scientist got banned. It was gnarly!

My biggest brick is every time I play reasoning gate. I brick so hard with that deck which is why I almost never play it

Fun fact: Magnet Warriors (with Valkyrion) were a top tier deck in Duel Links in 2018!

And of course I've played most of the decks to summon these monsters lol

The biggest bricks are whatever I ran at my first locals. Went 1-3 every match going to game three and getting crushed by trinity except where a guy purposely took me to time then his last in hand card was BLS that I could not solemn because he took me to time :[

I use Valkyreon in GOAT with Skill Drain and Heart of the Underheart. I wish I could show it to you. I remember Gate Guardian being mentioned as the best card in Metal Raiders. Exodia Necross should get 1000 per turn like in the anime and be immune to monster effects. I am very disappointed in Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon. It is my favorite card and you can't play it at all. Now in modern you can summon it with just having 2 cards, itself and fusion recrutement, but sadly the game is so fast that there is no reason to run this thing. Wish shining dragon also had an anime effect like destroy backrow.

Early yugioh was so afraid to give big monsters any useful effects or give you any viable way to get it out. Power creep is wild.

Just because cards are legal in the goat, doesnt mean they are part of the format. Maybe it would be possible to make a list from cards that can be bricks, but are actually meta. For example, dustshoot, noc, dimensional fusion, etc

I run Sorcerer of Dark Magic in my Dark Magician deck. He's still a hard draw but it's "easy" to get him on the field with the Dark Magician Girl + Sage's Stone combo.
