To be honest, Mercury had a great tone and powerful voice but he was not a technical singer (by his own admission even) and he never got technical training. He did deliver some very good vocal performances live and he certainly has some iconic ones, but if you watched him in concert a lot you would know that he often lowered the difficulty and struggled to hit the really high notes. He was awesome in recording though.

i agree, the 80s were all about dancing and his talents were always more highlighted there as opposed to vocals (there were a lot of break dancers who took inspiration from the moonwalk). "human nature" is a good example of his vocal talent.
