Yes. Samurai Warriors 2 and Dynasty Warriors 5 deserve to be at the top. I personally prefer Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires where it got a massive graphic overhaul moving to the Xbox 360 consoles. I also really liked Dynasty Warriors 3 where you got to make 8 ultra powerful bodyguards and just mob everyone haha

​@@kirayoshikage5001short answer, SW2 is the perfect entry point for the franchise, it helps you understand the major story beats and fall in love with the characters at the same time, better than any other game of the franchise where the focus is one or the other No you don't need to play neither DW nor SW in order, you can treat every game as a soft reboot. It tells the story of a certain historical period, so it's the same story, just told differently. Some games have different hypothetical scenarios, others tell the same story but focus on different characters, etc... So for example, poster boy Yukimura Sanada, his story in SW1 focuses on his relationship with his lord Shingen Takeda, and he either saves him and helps him unify Japan, or he can't save him and the story focuses on him finding a glorious death after his master died. In SW2, it focuses on finding a place for himself after the Takeda were decimated. He finds new friends in Mitsunari and Kanetsugu, but Mitsunari dies and he had to fight for what Mitsunari died for. There's also Keiji who helped him find his new goal in life. In SW3, his story mode focuses on Ina, his sister in law (since his brother/her husband didn't become a real character yet lol), it focuses on their rivalry and later alliance. In SW4, his brother Nobuyuki Sanada is finally an actual character, so Yukimura's story is centered around his relationship with Nobuyuki and how differently they think. Basically every subsequent game brings back everyone and adds 10ish new characters. SW1 to SW3 all have story modes for each character (with some exceptions), SW4 goes for less character focus and has a story mode per clan, for 12ish story modes total, which has less character screen time, but also less repetition from playing some stages over and over but with different characters SW5 is an actual reboot, the characters are very different in personality, design and moveset. Only 20 characters are back from SW4's 56, with 17 new characters added. And it focuses on one continuous long storyline rather multiple like the previous games. Spirit of Sanada is a SW4 spinoff that also focuses on one long story but a different main character to focus on

But due to having only 15 (19 for Xtreme Legends) characters, it doesn't cover enough of the historical battles to understand what's going on SW2 and SW3 are a perfect balance of understanding both the characters and the general story. The reason SW2 is more recommended is because how screwed SW3 was with its release. The only English version available is the base game on Wii. Every other version is Japanese, whether the PS3 version, the Xtreme Legends expansion, the Empires version, everything was released only in Japan, so not many people played SW3 because no one has Wii lol. So SW2 is easier to find. SW4, as I said, has clan specific stories, so you get a better understanding of the general story, but not all of the characters, also, I imagine the task of getting to know 55 character would be very daunting, compared to SW2's 26 or SW3's 37. SW5 is just a completely different experience. It's easy to follow since it's one continuous story, but seeing how it only brings back 20 characters from the first 4 games, it's such a far removed experience from them. So while it's a great game, not a good "entry point" if that makes sense.

SW2 vanilla is amazing, and basically just built off of SW1XL (which is also amazing). The XL for SW2 just adds more to the fun but isn’t essential to that game imo like it is for SW1

In my opinion, you’ve played all the best DW, SW, and WO games already then lol. And agreed.

And something more to be hate was the Battle engine itself - Newer warriors games (including latest DW9 and SW5) tend to having every single hit could drag all units formation in the air , making chain combo .... Its not fun any more since characters hit box so bad and AI so dumb ( on Higher difficulty only increase their strength and health) .... Like you are a wind god or something extraodinary force .... Love older way of less soldiers but more focus and also you cannot take all of them at once without broken some bones and difficulty dealing with their lieutenant (not officers themself - another story)...

Play Hyrule warriors then, I’ll spend hours in one misión surviving by the skin of my teeth to survive

i dunno man i feel like they done it right with samurai warriors 5 it's good normal troops actually a threat officers actually attacks

i think this is because they are mostly based on the satysfiying part of killing lots of enemies at the same time than in the dchallenge part,if the ia was really agressive the player could not fight so much enemies at the same time

@@fauken1994 THIS EXACTLY THIS!!!! every ps2 iteration felt like you were actually fighting thousands of one on one fights and that felt so much better then pressing square once and hitting every enemy on the screen.

It's a good game, but there lots I dislike about it. Repeated stages for characters, less elements, removal of grapple attacks, rubbish weapon weight system (especially for the female cast having all their 4th weapons as heavy).

@@KabutoZombie no, I mean the grapple attacks like Lu Bu' s attack where he lifts the enemies in the air and then slashes them side to side. They changed them in dw5 to the attacks where the character stomps the ground and it does nothing lol

Samurai warriors 4-II is literally an Xtreme Legends expansion of 4 but it just feels uncomplete in my opinion,1 game to introduce 1 character,quite meh for me,but I enjoyed playing it. Warriors orochi 4 is average compared to 3,it has a great combat but the story is incredibly basic and boring,the game is also really easy,you can basically 1 shot someone on pandemonium with 1 attack,which is boring. Warriors Orochi 3 had a ton of stuff in it,a great story,a ton of cool dlc,the characters were somewhat important compared to warriors orochi 4 where only the ones who got a bracelet were the spotlight. WO3 And Samurai Warriors 4 are just better than WO4 and SW4 II

Wo4 and SW4-ii are two of the laziest games Koei have made, WO4 while there is massive cast of characters and is somewhat fun, it's the very apex of mindless gameplay. It removed: The camp, musou battlefields, Alternate costumes, the colour editor, Mystic weapons (No new weapon models at all), Items, Unqiue team attacks, Air R1 attacks. It's really bare bones compared to even the base WO3. Not to mention the lack of stage variation, some stages are in the story mode up to about 10 times. SW4-II on the other hand removes lots of important battles and repeats some stages too many times (some versions are ripped straight from vanilla SW4) because they asked the Japanese fans what characters they wanted stories for (as well as the new characters introduced in Sw4) however the characters they picked have the exact same stages as each other. They removed 'Chronicle Mode' in favor of Survival mode which is really really boring, because it's nearly the same every time you play it. Basically, they gutted most of the content and didn't replace it with anything worth while and most of the content it does have is ripped from the vanilla game

Thanks! I threw my copy of DQH1 against a wall. One of the stages kept freezing my PS4, I always already pretty annoyed that day, so I yeeted it. I liked the game, but I need a new copy and I think i deleted my save lol

I was only able to play samurai warriors 3 on psp. I like it more than sw4 just by how big maps were made. I don't know if in sw4 are big as same as sw3 and you just go through them faster with hyper attack but I would like to play it at least on wii

DW5E, SW2E and SW3E are the only good ones, the rest are kind of bad in some way. people love them because they can do whatever they want, but they're too simplistic because they don't want to alienate the fans having a full empire building game. Warriors games are simplistic with its combat, but I don't think it works with the Strategy stuff, you can basically ignore it and still win. There's never any treat of losing a campaign in the empires games because of the simplicity

I've locked SW:Spirit of Sanada and was looking at one more game to buy. I'm confused between Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires, Dynasty Warriors 7 XL or Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate. Most have recommended other empires versions and also said to play Orochi 3 U (although I don't have the consoles for this). I'm tempted to get DW7XL since people said its a good way to understand the 3 Kingdoms storyline...

Lost all interest in it once they revealed the new designs for Katsuie and Co and found out they've all got generic-ass weapons like spears. and cutting half the roster to focus on a story that we already know the ending for.

They are unbelievably bad in DW3, as even their musou sucks, well, Sima Yi’s is better than Zhuge Liang’s. In DW3 Zhuge Liang’s musou first hit knocks officers down so the rest of it misses. Therefore it’s practically useless. Their stubby range makes them super easy to hit and it’s hard to punish with them. They are horrendous. In DW4 they were waaaaaay better even though still weak. Well, that is until DW4 XL where they became gawds thanks to elemental true musou

It wouldn't be on this list, I didn't enjoy it. Not that it's a bad game, but I really couldn't get into it.

the only issue i had with age of calamity is the framerate, the one hit ko side missions and maybe how it was marketed versus how the story turned out. I loved how they included elements from botw's gameplay like runes and ways to counter attack enemies. Also cutscenessssss

Age of calamity plays so slow compared to other warriors games, it’s not even down to the frame rate it’s just not as intense bar maybe the hateno mission near the end
