In this video I list the top 10 Waves pluginsI use all the time. These are the best Waves plugins in my opinion. These are the best plugins for lo-fi, best plugins for vocals, best plugins for mixing, and some of the best plugins for mastering as well. The Waves plugin discount changes frequently, so I’ll update it above whenever I can. These plugins include CLA Vocals, J37, Torque, Renaissance Vox, SSL Master Bus Compressor, Brauer Motion, Greg Wells Series, Abbey Roads Vinyl, CLA2A, and NS1. These plugins are excellent for mixing any type of music including hip hop, trap, pop, edm, and more. I also show you how I use these waves plugins and some tricks.

While CLA plugs are great as a "one plug fits all", it is not enough for surgical work. You would need serious editing and proper eq- ing prior to turning it on. Second, I rarely use more than two parameters, i like the compressor and it works on other stuff too, not vocals only. However, you did mention the most important plug series - Ren. series. When i first tried renaissance compressor and eq, i was blown away (looong time ago). But then R vox- that is true magic. Yes it compresses, but algorithm is also doing something else. It feels as if it has a dynamic eq that glues your vocal perfectly to the mix. It also has a gate feature, that is amazing for all of us who started recording in a non-acoustically treated rooms, something like implemented NS1 already. I tried it on male, female, vocals, across all genres from singing to screaming, voiceovers and and it always delivers. For instance, for move voice overs, you would usually go for Nectar by Izotope, but this can also produce same result on dynamics and carving in its space. An old plug, and Waves are maybe not the quality of UA, but Renaissance series, that is long lasting master piece of a plugin. A mate of mine tried replicating it (he does a lots of plugin programming), got close on compression, but could not figure out this "sit in the mix" instant recipe. I would also say Torque is great tool for live drums. Also for samples. But do not assume (not you S, others) that you MUST tune your samples. Yes, its sounds better. But certain genres are base on detuned drums that do not play even close to the harmony. As for SSL master bus, I used the real one on multiple occasions - unlike the plug , real one is actually very very sensitive, with ratio 4 you can squash the mix already. it is worth having this plug on buss with the gentle settings only to give it a bit of a glue. And BTW, first time I was running tracks through SSL i was expecting... I don't even know what I was expecting, after having built in my head idea of this pristine, amazing, top of the line thing that will turn garbage into great sound... actually it was totally different, it made crap sound even worse :) And finally I would stress you are doing a great thing educating people. I guess many ppl think sound can be mixed in on or two axis - left right, close-far. One of the challenges i was facing as a young producer was to learn how to place sounds "above" and "below". Now there are tools like Brauer motion that are for something else, more effect based, but also provide nice visualisation of how rich the mixing field is . Oh, word of warning . CLA2A and in general the entire CLA2x and 76 have issues with noise. And even if you turn off "analogue 50, 60hz", if you have these plugs across all your tracks, they can build to some serious noise. Cheers!

Is the R vox better as an all-in-one compressor or the CLA 76 as a dynamic compressor in combination with the CLA 2a as a tonal compressor? Which variant sounds better? And when do you use which plugin? Would you combine the rvox with another plugin? I want to make pop and hip hop music, but sometimes something more aggressive.
@Echo-nn8dt
@Echo-nn8dt 2 жыл бұрын
You can use another compressor for color and smoothing if if the rvox is too aggressive. Or just dial it back and match the volume.

It's so strange to me that SSL is lauded for sound. The studio I worked in, SSL stood for "sounds so lousy". The only reason it was in the studio was for automation. When the newer Neve consoles came out with automation, everyone pretty much dropped SSL. Maybe it's just a preference.

Hey Sanjay, I was just looking for plugins so this video is exactly what I needed! Can I ask you what Waves bundle to get for begginers? And also, would you recommend these plugins over Universal Audio (Having to buy the interface) Thank you for your work!
@SanjayC
@SanjayC 3 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent question: UAD vs Waves. Honestly, if you are not in the market for an audio interface, then don't worry so much about UAD plugins. You can get just as good results with Waves. If you want to buy a new upgraded interface, i highly recommend UAD and then you can buy some UAD plugins to go with it - but its not necessary. For beginners, it depends on what you want to do. I find that Waves makes excellent plugins for vocals and also for mixing. So those are the ones I featured in this video. If you are a total beginner, I suggest getting the CLA Signature Series (waves.alzt.net/Q1qXo). Its immediately easy to use and easy to get excellent results. Even when you're an expert, you'll continue to use them. And it covers vocals, guitar, bass, mixing, and more. That's my #1 choice for you for a bundle.

@@SanjayC well, at least there's a way to "try before you buy" with Waves. They really have great plugins. Some of them are a bit outdated, but they have pleeeenty. to choose from. Agree with the CLA bundle. As I said on my comment, they work better if you work a little your signal with EQ cleaning and dynamics control, before the CLA of your choice. That's when they really shine!

I have a huge problem with harshness in vocals on certain words, and i use a dynamic eq to try to get them out, but that often creates new ones and dulls the vocal. These frequencies are mostly because i work with rappers with cheap mics and untreated rooms. Any tips?
@SanjayC
@SanjayC 3 жыл бұрын
Your untreated room is more likely the problem. But even a mic shield will help. Like this one www.amazon.com/Neewer-Microphone-Isolation-Absorbent-Compatible/dp/B0841KM5VG

Hey man I've always had this doubt... waves gives u free updates for about a year or so, after which you have to renew the waves update plan... do you have to renew it every year, cause it gets super expensive then
@SanjayC

No way...I hardly ever renew mine. The only time I renew is if the old version stops working with my operating system or something. I very rarely get the updates. If it ain't broke, don't make me pay to have it fixed!! lol!
